If this removes the bootanimations and makes it all black, how do I know if I'm getting into a bootloop or if it's actually booting?
All I'm getting is vibrations every now and then.
Just an FYI you can use sfhub's automated root tool to install this kernel. It's really easy and does not trigger the yellow triangle. I originally used it to flash Steady's FB15 repack, and just used it again to flash FB17. No issues whatsoever. Although FB17 isn't in the tool yet, so you have to pull out the FB17 zimage file and drop it in the right folder.
Anyone else having kinda funky wifi? Sometimes the icon disappears and needs to be toggled to show up again, and also sometimes the wifi and signal icon stay grey.
Great otherwise, no LOS

I saw this on sfhub's thread and it sounds like a good way to do it. How do you pull the zimage file from Steady's kernel?
I used Heimdall to flash the Rogue kernel, and it worked. I don't know if I did it the correct way, but here's what I did and it worked. Note, this was for installing Calkulins ICS ROM too.
Coming from Calkulins 2.8
In CWM, flashed the FB15 modem
Rebooted
In CWM, wiped data, dalvik, and cache 3x each
Flashed ZIP of Calkulins ICS ROM
Rebooted then rebooted again for good measure
For the kernel, I double-click the TAR file, and it "unzips" the zImage file
Using Heimdall, "heimdall flash --kernel zImage"
The first reboot after the kernel install is scary, no boot animation and a bunch of vibration "beeps". I let it sit for about 2 minutes, and it finished booting.
Hope that helps, I finally got my phone working again after starting this last night. This method worked for me.
I have pulled the zimage but it keeps telling me that the file is not a valid PIT file. Do I need to convert it to a PIT format?
Not if you don't use Odin.
Look back a page or two regarding using sfhub's autoroot tool to flash this kernel. It works, and no increased flash count or triangle.
Still, jigs are cheap anyways.
