[Q] Please clear my doubts about basics.....

I am using XMDual for about 2 months.
This is my first own Android handset.
So, I am a newbie to Android :p
I had used ION, T, SGS4 mini, SGS2....
But I consider this is my first handset, because all others are used only as a basic+media phone.
Now I have been trying to get some thing extra from my XMD, as I does on my previous Symbian phones.

I know that XM have 4GB internal memory.
but, where is this 2 GB?
I had uninstalled all applications, but still only below 2GB!!!!!
what is meant by emulated storage?

Some file managers shows 2 memories
ie: phone memory & sdcard.
but both are having same capacity & same usage (2.01 GB capacity)
Why????

I have to push & hold camera button to get UI !!!
Is it normal????

my phone is always unlocking from my pants pocket and making emergency dialing !!!!!
Irritating..... as I enabled keypad beep..!!!!:p
All of you having this issue?

i try to answer some your questions...
it's right totally memory your phone is 4gb..
but not clear 4gb..
-at least 2gb for partition system...(you cannot delete this...probably if you running root or cwm you can wipe cache or data to format internal partition system you havve totally free 4gb for internal memory...but your phone stuck in sony a.k.a soft brick)
-and finally you have least 2gb for internal memory...not system...!!! after your install some applications etc. playstore your app data save in here...cannot save or move to sd if you can't root for swapping your memory...

The 2gb problem.
If you've noticed, In 'my computer' your hard drive is less than it says on the box. This is because computer says 1GB = 2^30 bytes. Memory manufacturers count it as 1000^3 bytes. So you actually have ~3.64 gb (give or take). This is then split into system memory(like c:\windows), emulated storage (your internal sd(like c:\users\%YOURuserNAMEhere%\documents)) and data partition(like c:\program files(where your apps are installed to)). There are more, but we don't need to go into those details for now. These include but aren't to cache. Just like you don't need admin permissions to read system and program files, but need admin to write to them, android is a bit like this, but has root instead. (you need root to read \data\ in file manager)

That's why you have 2gb (same memory shared for data and int sd)




Push and hold camera
This is by design. You don't really want pictures of the inside of your pocket do you?


Emergency dialer
I can't think of any fix. As a workaround consider a flip case for your Xperia m! Can't disable emergency dialer for obvious reason.

I am aware about that.
I had uninstalled about all apps including system which is non crucial, for a test
Still I have got 1.7 GB free memory

SX ION displays 2 installation apps memories ..ie phone memory & in-built memory

My old Nokia will show up its camera UI after a full press of camera button. That is why I asked.

Sony partition 4gb into 2gb for system,dalvik cache storage,..and another 2gb as internal storage....


ya the phone memory,sdcard both are same[internal 2gb memory]...but phone memory is for storing data,cache,libs of apk u installed and it is also emulated as sdcard0.....[just folder called 0 is created by phone and the data such as song,video,etc can be stored in it by users]...


yes camera button have to press and hold....infact it can focus auto if u half press and hold the button then take a pic in full press...this is feature of sony...


yes XM is having very responsive touch so it response to the pocket also,...even i hate this sometime...u better put a pattern or pin lock
