This is pure speculation on my part as I don't know the inner workings of Venom Tweaks, but from what you're describing I'd say the default profile .xml is outdated with all the updates nit has been pushing out lately and it snuck up and bit you (Viper pun intended.) It was not kernel related.
Speaking of full wipes...
I'm a flashaholic and I couldn't resist the new Verizon OTA. As we're still s-on, I know there's nothing Justin or any other dev can do to update the radios or hboot without re-locking the phone. So, I took the plunge last night. All is well. I'm on a combination of updated radios and hboot from Verizon with "old" kernel (Cubed 3.1.3), recovery (TWRP 2.4.1.0) and ROM (Viper 1.1.3.) From start to finish (including lots reading from the original unlock thread from November to be safe, the return to stock thread, and searching on how to reflash my token) took 3 hours. Was it worth it? Early testing of the radios seem to say yes via Speed Test.
