ALL BACKS BLACK S4.3

Table of Contents:

1st Post - AllBacksBlack is the core of this theme development. It's meant to be flashable on any Samsung S4 Series Stock Android 4.3 TouchWizard framework based ROM regardless regional and firmware versions.

2sd Post - AllBacksBlack Enhanced is a complimentary set of modifications extending the scope of the 1st post and for that is delivery in a ROM by ROM basis.

3rd Post - Great Contest Ever & Wonderful Hall Of Fame

All After - The most important part . Where ideas, errors, instructions, decisions, discussion, bullsh*t and sharing happens.

Objective:
As extensively researched by the community, the use of black backgrounds in OLED (AMOLED and Super AMOLED) devices may lead to a gain up to 20% more battery juice. As related information, you can find some maths here and this xda experiment.

If, as is mine, your main device concern is lifetime and not the looks, give this a try and share your experience. Mine has been fantastic!

Requirements:

- ClockworkMod Recovery (any)

Install:
- Enter CWM recovery;
- Install AllBacksBlack.S4.3.20140220.zip (30Mb)
- Restart your device;

Uninstall:
- Enter CWM recovery;
- Wipe Cache and Dalvik
- Reflash your ROM zip (no need to wipe data);
- Restart your device;

Objective:
Go further implementing design and procedural modifications directed to the enhancement of the user usage experience. Versatility and comfortability shall be considered the main project goals.

Notice: the work presented in this post is HIGHLY DEPENDENT on the ROM you are on. So, be careful at the downloads section. Mixing releases may cause FC's, bootloops and leaks.

Instructions to have it for your ROM

What is modded:

-- Removes all coded bluish from Quick Settings panel

What is the point in buying a phone with such a beautiful screen, if you are going to make everything black/dull/ugly to save battery? Buy a Nokia 3310 if it's battery you care about lol

Thanks for making a point and letting me argument it.

What's the point to have an incredible Lock/Homescreen Wallpaper? I do not wakeup my phone to stare at it. Lock and Home screen are way points to do things with my device. Think that Gallery is the correct app to appreciate beautiful pictures, not lock and home screens.

For me (and a few more) efficiency is the point. Quick and clear access to my activities.

In fact, one can conclude that the device can fit itself for different purposes. Yours seems to be the beauty but mine is different.

Each to there own. I am not discrediting the idea (it is a good idea for some that like the minimalistic look), I'm just saying I don't see the point in buying a flagship phone if you aren't Going to make the most out of it. There would of been several cheaper options out there if all you care about is good battery.

Seems that you think that I have a black paper weight ... hehehe ... that's not the case.

For sure that during work days the productivity apps are the only use. Phone, clock, email, appointments, gps, sensors, ~~and~~ the amazing camera, data-showing and remote conections are my only usage during this period. Low usage I agree, but it's my life not devices one

But, there is leisure time too !!!

- Gaming, yes !!!

- Broncos @ Chiefs last Sunday played an amazing game through the crystal clear screen. Only Alex Smith lagged ... not my device.

- No other device did as better as this during my stargazing nights. Its power makes a real performance difference when calculating and drawing all the night sky.

So .. do you get my point now ? It's a wonderful device and I really need and use it (my blue S3 is lying off right there).

All this talk made me think about and I would suggest an alternate point of view of this mod...

One can view it as just an initial canvas where his further customizations will soon pile up to the desired goal. I do this way ... beside the backgrounds released here I will be changing icons and lots of other stuffs that will fit my needs.

Now, about battery, it's awful when @ customer and there is no more juice. I do have spare battery but, with this I can do better.

In conclusion: AllBacksBlack is productive, lightweight, enhance user imagination (as a canvas) and ecologic !!!

Seems, from here, that 4.3 is coming with transparent status ... please correct me if I'm wrong.

The problem with modding the statusbar is that it is not an image but a color code inside the compiled SystemUI.apk. This creates a version problem. The one created for XXUEMKE should not be used in a XXUEMK8 system. FC's and even bootloops may occur.

This is not the case with AllBacksBlack that will fit accordingly on any. :laugh:

There are some guides on how to do it (xda way) and if any doubts remains, please, be welcome to ask.

Notice: can't give you now a deadline but I intend to release some complimentary stuff for ABB that will appear on 2sd post soon, including black status bar. For these mods, I will carefully state the applicable firmwares.

You have no idea how happy I am seeing some black backgrounds compared to the sickly bluish-greenish whatever Samsung puts.
This mod is fantastic and well I have just one thing to say,

MORE, MORE AND MORE BLACK EVERYWHERE!! MAKE EVERY DAMN MENU, SUB-MENU, BAR, BUTTON, ANY GOD FORSAKEN THING BLACK!

But lets tackle the requests:

For hardkey menus and dialogs I've opted to use #191919 instead of #000000. It created a shaded canvas slightly contrasting with the pure-black background. If not, the overall aspect of the screen and the information got kind weird ...

The status bar will be but, as you can read some posts before, it's trick and has to be handled carefully to your safety and my sanity. :angel:

Buttons I agree with you and will be looking at them. But, as menus and dialogs, they will look VERY weird if simple black. Will let you know.

Now, the "ANY GOD FORSAKEN THING BLACK!" ... you tell me. Just point then out and I will do my best.

But just remember that with AllBackBlack I will just lay a background foundation where you will continue to enhance. That's its scope. To be flashable by everybody regardless 4.3 subversions. In time, I will release some complimentary stuff that will deal with status bar and others.

Something weird is happening. I can't see your attached image as I still can't the one sent by @saywhatt ... tried 3 browsers logged and not. I get only 404 ... weird. So I'm unable to see what you've sent.

Reading Crash's ROM thread, it seems ok ... it's a stock deodexed 4.3 ROM. Should work flawless. I've developed it using GoldenEye and Wannan is said OK.

Do you have Xposed or any other framework installed? Never tried 3rd party frameworks and I think, if one is installed, things may not work as intended.
