I have not tried it but I think it will still say 'modified' in device status because you are rooted.
However, the counter should not increase.

That's my understanding, I could be wrong though....

Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app

It does say "modified".

Confirmed, followed instructions, got root, a +1 counter and plenty of info saying "custom" and "modified". Not a yellow triangle in sight though :D

triangled away and my download mode now says:
"Odin mode
Product name: GT-9300
Custom binary download: no
current binary: Samsung Official
Syste status: Official"

Rooted on stock ICS.

Thank you, will donate as soon as my banking system allows it (they give me hell with any online related stuff)

Quick question plz:
I found this .eu.chainfire.triangleaway.flashkernel.i9300 file in my /sdcard folder. Do i still need it or can i delete it?

Just got the 4.1.1 JB OTA update (JRO03C.I9300XXDLJ4) and wanted to make sure this is ok to use as all the other posts are referring to ICS.
thanks.

Ok..so this is basically root without cwm? So that you can later on flash any other recovery of your own choice to flash other roms?

It is not confusing if you know a liitle about this argument.
Sorry if you are so susceptible, but 1st post is more then clear. Chainfire is not a noob (ABSOLUTELY!!!!) and he explain well what he does.
Try to learn before become so susceptible.

No CWM app.
Stock recovery, not CWM.

Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app

I really, really miss the CWM app!

It was so nice to be able to use it to name a backup and start the process and walk away and have the phone completely reboot on its own when finished!

Manually, naming backups isn't so easy, and your phone stays in recovery when nandroid backups complete. I know you've said that you rely on Titanium Backup for your backup needs, but there are times when this won't be a complete solution for restoration in the event of corruption from experimenting with a flashed .zip or mod, etc. Nandroid restores have saved my bacon lots of times from tinkering around with mods.

Is there any chance you could update the CWM app to work with JB ROMs, Chainfire?

Make it a paid app, if you need to. I'd buy it in a heartbeat! I'm sure I'm not alone here. The ability to simply launch the app, name your backup, and have it boot into recovery for you, start the backup, and then reboot when finished was just too perfect!

I miss it, and I'd gladly pay to have that convenience back again. :)

If there's any way it's feasible for you, I hope you will consider updating the CWM app.

Dude... CF root v6.4 works with jelly bean. It contains cwm recovery and app.

Chainfire just means he won't be updating that version with cwm.

CF root v6.4 does work with Jelly Bean if you do it this way :
http://xdaforums.com/showpost.php?p=33124569&postcount=1300

Nobody said that CF-Root does not work.

I said that the CWM App does not work. If you use it, you get this warning:

This version of CWM Manager should be used with CF-CWM v1.1 or newer. It appears you are running a different recovery. Various features have been disabled.

I'm asking Chainfire if he'd consider updating it so that it will work properly, even if he's gone away from permanent recovery support, etc. (as the OP clearly states) because the features that the CWM app offered are worth paying for, IMO.

for the modified status thing, it is not due to rooting your devices solely. i had studied the app Samsung uses to identify the status and found that if any rule specified occurred then it will report as modified. one of the rules they use is to check if there are any process running by root. so most likely if u rooted the phone and have init.d supports, or if u mounted the system partition as rw, etc, then the status will become modified.

so rooting doesnt necessarily means modified. also the identification process or result can be hacked/prevented if u wish

How can it be prevented? I read that it was a background process that Samsung implemented. I figured it could be frozen or killed, but I've not seen how.

Check your device model ! Settings -> About device -> Model number. See the third post for exact supported model numbers. If your device is a totally different model, it will not work (may even brick) !

CF-Root is the root for "rooting beginners" and those who want to keep as close to stock as possible. CF-Root is meant to be used in combination with stock Samsung firmwares, and be the quickest and easiest way for your first root.

    Donate
CF-Root has been available for many devices and has clocked over 8 million downloads. This is not even counting custom ROMs that already include it. Don't be a leech, buy me a beer (and use the "Thanks" button!). Imagine if every CF-Root user has donated me $1...

    What's installed
    - SuperSU binary and APK
    - Stock recovery

    Installation and usage
Flash the CF-Auto-Root package as PDA in ODIN (details on how to do that are in next post), and your device should reboot into a modified recovery (signified by a large red Android logo) and it will install SuperSU for you and restore the stock recovery, and reboot back into Android.

If you don't get to the red Android logo, boot into recovery manually ("adb reboot recovery", or boot while holding Power+VolUp+Home).

Using this root increases your flash counter. You should run Triangle Away (see below) after rooting to reset the counter. Note that if you want to run custom kernels or custom recoveries, your flash counter will be set to 1 at every boot. Either configure Triangle Away to reset the counter at every boot (Play version only) or only reset the counter when you need to go into warranty.

Did you see the red Android logo during rooting, but SuperSU does not appear? This may sometimes occur due to left-over files and settings, however, you can usually install SuperSU from Google Play at this stage and it'll just work.

    Not included - Triangle Away
Triangle Away can be used to reset the flash counter after installing CF-Root. The flash counter keeps track of how many custom firmwares you have flashed, as this voids warranty. (No idea what this about ? Read up on it, you will want to use this !)

    Not included - adbd Insecure
As this CF-Root does not include a custom kernel, adb shell does not have root access by default (you can still get it by typing su inside the shell), nor is adb remount supported, nor will adb push and adb pull work on system files. adbd Insecure can be used to remedy this situation. (No idea what this is about ? Don't worry about it !)

    No CWM and such ?
I have personally moved away from permanent custom recoveries, and I am no longer supporting them. On newer devices they cause flash counter and OTA flashing issues. If you really want one, others do provide versions of CWM and TWRP for most devices. Personally I just use Mobile ODIN to install ZIPs and Titanium Backup for my backup/restore needs. I do always want root though, and as such I'm still supporting CF-Auto-Root as quick way to root.
    309
    ODIN Installation (detailed)

    - Follow these instructions to the letter. Do not touch any buttons or checkboxes that are not listed below to touch!
    - Unzip the attached Odin3-vX.X.zip file
    - Download and unzip the CF-Auto-Root-....zip file (see posts below this one)
    - If you end up with a recovery.img and cache.img file, you've extracted twice. You need to end up with a .tar.md5 file - don't extract that one
    - (USB) Disconnect your phone from your computer
    - Start Odin3-vX.X.exe
    - Click the PDA button, and select CF-Auto-Root-....tar.md5
    - Put your phone in download mode (turn off phone, then hold VolDown+Home+Power to boot - if it asks you to press a button to continue, press the listed button, or run adb reboot download command)
    - (USB) Connect the phone to your computer
    - Make sure Repartition is NOT checked
    - Click the Start button
    - Wait for Android to boot
    - Done (if it took you more than 30 seconds, you need practise!)

    - NOTE: Sometimes the device does *not* boot into recovery mode and root your device. Just do the entire procedure again if this happens. If it still will not install root and such, make sure that in Odin "Auto Reboot" is not checked. Then after flashing, pull the battery, and boot with VolUp+Home+Power button to boot into recovery manually. This will start the install process.

New to Samsung? Unfamiliar with Odin? Think all the above is a hassle? Get used to it. It's very simple, and us Samsung folk use Odin (or Mobile ODIN ;)) for everything! It's so very very convenient once you get used to it. Notice the 30 second comment above? For experienced users, the entire process indeed takes only 30 seconds!

You may now optionally want to install and run Triangle Away to reset the flash counter.
