So you put it into fastboot and it just sits there?

Yup, just sits there. I can hear it connect but it wont respond to any commands from root tool, adb, or motocast. It doesnt show as an external drive either...

Turn the device off (hold power+start until it turns off) then hold the volume down key. This will drop you into fastboot bootloader mode. From there with usb connected run:

fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot reboot

stop by #utkanos if you need help

Galatians, are you sure you booted into fastboot before flashing the boot? You read the instructions on the root tool and your device showed a black screen with "bootloader" at the top?

I can give you my "Mini adb/fastboot" zip when I get home to make things easier if you need, but the easiest way if you're unfamiliar with fastboot is to just use the tool. :)

Yes, I am definitely seeing the black screen with "bootloader" at the top, it also says a bunch of stuff like "OK to program" and the like...

Try restarting the computer and the watch with the button combinations in the wiki (if you can't boot it, I mean)?

The root tool has the fastboot binary in it, and issues the commands so you don't have to. It doesn't make sense if it isn't even recognized by fastboot...

Aha, it works now. I reset to factory on the device, uninstalled Motocast, reinstalled Motocast, and then when I put it in fastboot it showed up as an adb device. Thanks to all!

My MotoACTV should hit my door step today. Do we have a v5.0 rooted yet? I know in previous posts people said not to update yet. (And that if you rooted you can't update anyway)

I was wondering if it was possible to update our devices to 5.0 with a backup made through recovery by prack that is getting his new device ?

We can try, but cannot guarantee. I still can't get .97 to boot from a backup that was made.

I don't know if this helps but some one on the kindle fire forums has made a backup called barebones rom and you have to flash in 2 parts idk if we can use a similar method

If you can get the update.zip (ota) for the newest update, I could get the devices on it.

Here is Motorola's response to the update problem for rooted devices:

simx said:
Do we understand from this post that Motorola will punish anyone who commit the ultimate sin of rooting by not being able to upgrade forever?
----------------
Am I to understand from this post that you feel Motorola should have an update path to suit whatever software variation someone can dream up?*

It's not a punishment. It's a technical limitation. We can test our software update process based on everyone having the same software now. Once owners make changes to that, the pieces we are trying to add on or alter may no longer fit, as mao and a few others can demonstrate. That's why altering the software is a warranty violation.

You can argue if you like about other methods for upgrading that might change this dynamic, but for now, this is what we have. I recommend mao send his device in for repair where it can probably be flashed to stock so he's back on the upgrade path.

lol...that's bs, they have the complete files which they can put into an update.zip, wipe the device as a whole, and flash them on (oh wait, that's what I've been doing); the only valid point they can make with this situation, is that the update.zips would be rather large taking up a lot of server space and bandwidth when they are downloaded.

If I update my device to 5.0 can you root it? I'm fine with providing whatever files for the rest of the community but I don't want to pass up my option for root. I would rather be rooted on an older build than have no root at all.

We dont have an update zip but we do have people like prack with a brand new device that is trying to root and im sure once he hooks up his device its going to ask for an update so what i wanted to kno was if we could use a backup of his device for an update to all

Edit: @prack i think it is possible for you to root the device but that question is best answered by either cennis or clearD

I'd honestly need to see the update.zip to even guess. The only way we wouldn't be able to root after the update would be if they locked the bootloader, which is unlikely as it's been unlocked this long. It may not even change for all we know. :)

And... even if they locked it, we still might be able to use zergrush to get around it and root anyways. :)

This watch is now the greatest toy ever. I've got it up and running ClearDroid ROM, used Tine's Link2SD setup, and now I even have the joy of being able to use Slingplayer on my wrist. Thanks to not setting ADW as my default launcher, I can even switch back into Moto's Motoactv launcher (although things look a little off-center).

In terms of setting up Google apps, though, especially Google Music (Play Music, whatever), can I just flash the gapps zip through recovery? I'm rocking the Amazon Appstore for now, but I want my Google Music.

    CWMR ported

    Hello,

I have ported CWMR 5.0.2.7 to the Motoactv (F100) device.

    actvcmwr.png

    Code:
    #include <std_disclaimer.h>
    /*
    * Your warranty is now void.
    *
    * I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards,
    * thermonuclear war, or you getting fired because the alarm app failed. Please
    * do some research if you have any concerns about features included in this ROM
    * before flashing it! YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if
    * you point the finger at me for messing up your device, I will laugh at you.
    */

The procedure for this is as follows. You MUST have working adb knowledge to use this and you must be able to restore using the available tool should any problems arise. This is considered an ALPHA release that may need additional work. I did not have access to the device during the port so all testing was done through TheEndGame7. THERE MAY BE ISSUES, you are warned.

    1) Download this file: CWMR5x_F100_recoveryA.img
    2) adb push CWMR5x_F100_recoveryA.img /data/local/
    3) adb shell (become root)
    4) dd if=/data/local/CWMR5x_F100_recoveryA.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk1p13
    5) exit adb from the device
    6) adb reboot recovery (you should be in CWMR now)

The source for the device config is here. Please feel free to go wild with development on this because I do not have the device and likely won't be contributing much more except bug fixes. If you use this source, please give credit where it's due.

NOTE: there are missing images(known). This is because the ramdisk is EXTREMELY finicky on this device and it WILL NOT BOOT past 3.66mb in size. I trimmed out things that weren't needed in order to make this work. The basic functionality you need should be there. adb is also not functioning properly yet within recovery.

Well, it was a *****, but here is build 2, moving to Beta at this point in 'Moto red' by request of TEG.

There is 1 lingering issue: usb support in recovery. It is a bastard, going to really have to tear this thing apart to debug why. Right now, recovery can backup, restore, wipe, flash roms, etc. All the stuff you're used to working, now does. I fixed images by shrinking the kernel to fit more stuff in here. You should no longer get any weird image errors. I bumped you up to 5.0.2.8 source as well.

Flash this file the same as before via adb and dd.
    CWMR5x_F100_recoveryB.img

    adb push CWMR5x_F100_recoveryB.img /data/local/
    adb shell
    # dd if=/data/local/CWMR5x_F100_recoveryB.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk1p13
    # exit
    adb reboot recovery

Some additional notes I'd like to share that might help you as you mess with this device now that I've played with one.

    1) NEVER use adb reboot bootloader for any reason. You get stuck in a ****tily programmed loop of hell. The way out of this loop is by following these instructions:

    a) hold START, POWER, VOL UP, VOL DOWN together for 10 seconds at least. You should see the screen flicker on and off twice.
    b) plug in the USB cable to turn device on
    c) you should boot back to rom, if not, do it again. It's touchy.

    2) The 'soft' reset is done by START + POWER for 5 seconds.

Enjoy. Source is updated. This will likely be the last update unless I get adb working.

Attached is the latest copy of my MotoACTV Easy Modder v1.0. This is a MAJOR upgrade! Adds numerous features and completely revises how backups are stored on the computer. Need to use 7zip to extract it, wouldn't let me upload that big of a .zip file.

To make this version see your old backups, open your IMGs folder, make a new folder (no spaces), drag all your old .img files into it.

    ChangeLog:
