ok so i cant figure out how to get it done. i guess im not as good as i thought i was. this is where im at. im in cmd and im ready to do it adb way or if cwm is easier for you to explain to me PLEASE HELP ME lol. if i had a credit card i would totally send you a tip for the help. lol. i just dont want to starta process and end up bricking this one. i cant figure it out. its plugged in debug ready and cmd is up ready. i havnt been able to extract zimage from the other ones. thank you again with your patients with me

Ok. Right click on the zip file and extract it to a folder (if you don't have a program to do this google 7zip it's free) in the folder if it's CM you need the boot.img, Ss3 or siyah it should be zImage. Copy and paste it into the adb folder on your computer then use adb push command. Then follow the flashing instructions.

Telcel or any sim Chip on Straight talk S959G

Edvon did you get it working the way you were wanting?

Sent from my SGH-S959G

I flashed the ROM to 10.1, thank you, and it appears the APN is configurable to any Sim. I need to get the phone in working order, contacts, apps ect. working before going to sim stuff. I can't get google play to download the programs I need and bought, says installed- I know about Gaaps, but would like Titanium (to install some programs only). I guess the phone is still rooted, but the *#7465625# does not tell me if its unlocked. I can't get the program- google says installed! and help would be appreciated- thank you

The 7465625 code doesn't work on JellyBean. You can check it with app GalaxSim Unlock found at the bottom of this post- http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?p=30541172

To fix google play reboot into recovery and clear cache, and dalvik cache. That should fix it.

CM10.1 is rooted.

PhilZ CWM_v6.0.2.7 built by AJ Newkirk flashable from CWM- View attachment 1703154
I recommend this for everybody. It's the CWM your already using plus extra features like getting the Siyah recovery when you use AJ Newkirk's Siyah kernel and using jeboo's extra features in recovery with SHOstock3. Or touch recovery if it's included with the ROM or kernel you're using.

I added this and the regular CWM_v6.0.2.7 (just incase you would want to go back) to the OP.

That app is attached at the bottom of the post in the link I provided. You don't need to go to the play store for it.

You didn't flash gapps? Fail.

Not yet, thank you, I'm going to flash the ROM now and see if that does the trick.

All is well! have to goto Mexico to check for sure. Only problem now is Ad-hoc so as to be able to tether? I use WiFi tether and it says it failed setting ad-hoc in log.

so with this we no longer need to extract the zlimage and push the image using adb? we can just flash siyah`s or jeboos kernel directly through cwm thus changing our recovery options? did AJ make this for us?

Aj compiled the recovery from PhilZ source. It's aj's siyah kernel. I just made it flashable through CWM.

This recovery can have a ui from the kernel. With aj's kernel you will have siyah recovery, with jeboo you will have his recovery and CM just a standard CWM recovery. Without ever actually changing your recovery.

So I'm a bit confused. Running CM10.1 nightly with CWM installed from first post. Should I change the kernel to the one lined a few posts back, or just keep it as is? Just wanted someone to clarify for more before I brick something.

If you ever plan to use a different ROM or kernel like siyah, changing to that recovery makes you compatible.

All it does is change your CWM to one with more options, and better compatibility. Nothing else.

As far as bricking your phone. There is always a risk of this when flashing anything including CyanogenMod nightlies. All this does is take the zImage from aj's Siyah kernel and run the command to flash it to your recovery partition- so there is actually less risk involved for people that aren't familiar with adb. Besides being so easy anyone can do it.

I did personally test this quite a few times before posting it.

I would not post anything here if I thought it would harm your phone.

    REMOVING THE YELLOW TRIANGLE

    GINGERBREAD ONLY! (Root Required)
    - Extract the stock zImage from the factory firmware at the top of this page (I used 7zip, and needed to extract it twice to get it apart).
    - Put the stock zImage on the root (not in a folder) of your internal SD card. You can do this through the usb, adb push (adb push- Copy and paste the zImage into your folder with adb, connect your phone with usb, then command- adb push zImage /sdcard/zImage), whatever method you like.
    - Now using adb shell, or terminal emulator found in the market (if you don't' have adb ask GOOGLE) issue the command (capitilazation and spacing matter):

    $ adb shell
    $ su
    # dd if=/sdcard/zImage of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p5

This must be done as #, if you have a $ enter command: su
You must already be rooted for this to work. To switch to a different kernel afterwards you can use the same method, or CWM without getting the yellow triangle again or increasing the flash counter. As long as you flash internally, if you use Odin or Heimdall to flash anything thats not stock it will come back.

REMOVING YELLOW TRIANGLE ICS AND ABOVE!
-If running ICS or above you can use triangle away found here- http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?p=22462960

The op needs to be updated with this'd information...

The latest cwm is only for kitkat ROMs, that's cm 11+. Of you want to go with jelly bean ROMs like the one you're trying to use, you need to use cwm 6.0.2.7 it's older but JB won't flash on the newer ones. There are a few different versions but any will work as long add it's philZ, AJK, or 6.0.2.7

Since you already have cwm installed you can just DL the zips and flash them in recovery then reboot "recovery" and it will be complete. No need for Odin now. Try that and get back to us

I think I'm just going to replace CWM with the new TWRP in the op. It seems to be easy more compatible. Plus I like it better.

EDIT: Done. Op updated to install TWRP with Odin to be more compatible.

since this post is in AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777 section...i thought it might be compatible. i even saw a lot of ROM posts where they says its compatible with i777 and sgh s959g....so i was in doubt and had to ask.....glad to know its not compatible...thx....

I thought it was...a lot of the ROMs I search are based on the i777 builds just have to make sure you have the correct radio installed.....I've rooted mine and used several different ROMs just based off of this thread. Searching the thread with the search tool will yield massive results. See post#5 from the OP that's a fairly good clue.

Ok ok ok wait... Let's clear up some confusion. The one and only difference between the 959g and the i777 is that the 959g has its recovery on a separate partition by itself, whereas the i777 has kernel and recovery on the same partition. The 959g can use any ROM or kernel built for the i777 no problem. But if you want a different recovery on 959g you must use one of the zips from the op or Odin. If you had an i777 and you flash a new kernel it will also install a new recovery as it will be packaged in the zip. If you flash the same kernel on the 959g, your kernel will change but recovery remains untouched since it is on a different partition. That is the one and only difference between the two. Happy flashing :D
