My friends, just to summarize everything I did, because I had to search several posts / threads for it. Before all I thanks all the people that made this possible (I don´t remember all, they are a lot!). AcerExtensa, Dryogeshd, etc etc!

Before:
- HTC EVO 3D (unlocked by HTCDev) + latest official GB
- S-ON + Hboot 1.49.018

After all the process I will describe next:
- ICS + hboot 1.49.007 + S-OFF + root

NOTE: (some parts are COPIES or improvements from the original thread/post!)

-------------------------------
PROCESS (S-OFF and 1.49.007):
-------------------------------
Original: http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1535987

1) Change CID to General CID

As I understand, till date this following way has been successful in getting your device HBoot down and achieve S-OFF, Important thing for that is to change your CID to a universal CID, that is HTC__001.
Through fastboot. Open the command prompt, connect your device by USB cable, check USB debugging is enabled. and enter the following code
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
wait till your device enters bootloader and shows fastboot USB, now enter the following code.

a. For unbranded devices.
Code:
fastboot oem writecid HTC__001

fastboot oem lock

fastboot oem reboot bootloader
Please note that in the cid there are 2 underscores before 001.

b. For branded devices such as Vodafone.
Code:
fastboot oem writecid VODAP001
fastboot oem lock
fastboot reboot bootloader
You can even change that CID to HTC__001. Once you have achieved S-OFF you can change your cid back to original.

2) Run rebuilt.Free 3VO_V2 (to install 1.49.007)

Extract the entire folder to root of C drive on your computer.

Run step1.exe  If do not get any errors run step2.exe  Then run the step3.exe
It updates with European ROM + Hboot 1.49.0007. Às vezes demora vários minutos até avançar. QUANDO/SE ficarem “parados” nesta imagem (já quase no fim)  é só tirar a bateria e boot que está tudo a funcionar.

3) Run Revolutionary
Finally the much awaited S-OFF

- The need to do all the above steps was to finally arrive here. It is essential Hboot 1.49.007.
- Visit http://revolutionary.io and select the appropriate operating system. Download.
- Enable USB debugging mode on your device and connect it to your computer by the USB cable.
- Extract the downloaded zip from revolutionary site to your C drive.
- Run the revolutionary.exe as administrator and this will give you your device serial number.
- Enter the serial number in the space given on the revolutionary.io site and copy the S-off code generated
- Now type the code in the program. Hit enter and wait for it to finish.

(If something goes wrong, or if it says failed. Then recheck your device's boot loader is locked. And try again and again till you succeed.)

*************************************************************
NOTE: At the end of this STEP your phone is S-OFF + 1.49.007 + an OLD GB ROM
*************************************************************

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here you will update to latest GB + update to ICS + Root (S_OFF 4EXT RECOVERY )
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?p=27903661#post27903661

1) copy latest gingerbread viz 1- as PG86IMG.zip to SDCARD root folder
2) Install latest gingerbread viz 1- as PG86IMG.zip from bootloader

DELETE PG86IMG.ZIP

3) copy moded OTA viz 2- SDCARD root folder
4) copy moded OTA formware viz 3- as PG86IMG.zip to SDCARD root folder
5) copy root viz 4- to SDCARD root folder

- OPEN THE BACK CASE and REMOVE microSD
- POWER + VOL DOWN *without microSD
- SELECT RECOVERY (and press POWER)
*when the screen goes white while it loads Recovery, INSERT MICROSD* (you can now close the back case)

- FLASH moded OTA through 4EXT recovery
- reboot to bootloader to update firmware
- reboot rom delete PG86IMG from SDCARD
- reboot into recovery flash root.zip
- reboot u done u official OTA with S-OFF

After that (root flash) I noticed that I had a Superuser that was not triggered when the app asks permition. I uninstalled that SU (in Android), then Google Play, searched Superuser, installed, done.

NOTE: I used the GB ROM that he gives on the first line and then only MODDED files.

After that all good

After updating I lost s-off and now have the 1.53hboot. No biggie though, as the official ICS works quite well.

Funny thing though...I see superuser app in OTA ICS. Doesnt work of course, since we cant root it yet...or can we?

Sent from my HTC EVO 3D X515m using xda premium

Same here.

Maybe good idea to open a new thread for people who did OTA ics and lost root and are now on hboot 1.53, and want to root there phone again..especially with all these nice jelly beans we want to taste

as I understand.... you'll have S-OFF after the process... contrary to the post just before this one? ???? can you still flash custom rom after the upgrade?

Updated my unbranded Evo 3D GSM with the official OTA. After that the GPS doesn't work very well at all, it has got a life of its own even if the phone is stationary the position keep jumping around.

I've been talking to HTC and even a factory reset did nothing to solve this problem. They want me to send in the phone for "service". But if this is a general problem then I don't see what they can do other than wait for a fix from HTC.

So my question is am I the only one experiencing these problems?

Are there any differences in the Official OTA vs the VM leak?

After all the process you will be with a rooted ICS with S-OFF and a custom recovery. AFAIK you can install any custom ICS based rom afterwards.

Anyway, I am using the ICS since then and all I can say is that:
- battery really improved (I estimate around 20%) on my normal use (didn't really tested games)
- camera is improved and faster
- UI is much smoother and I really see no point on those 4.1 Android 60 fps rendering
- phones boots much faster than with GB
- about RAM and free space I really didn't noticed any differences, as with 1Gb RAM we have plenty of room for pretty much everything...
- GPS is faster to acquire signal, also network seems a little better on 3G signal. I don't know if it is a placebo effect, but at my house I only had GSM and now I can use 3G (though sometimes it returns to gsm but before I never had 3G connection)
- again perhaps it is a placebo effect but it seems that in general ICS uses better the dual core, everything seems faster to process
- THE BAD PART: perhaps it is again a placebo effect, but 3D (games, not the real 3D) performance seems a big worse than before. I cannot say anything in particular is slow, but some games seem not to have the silk smooth fps as before.

What I imagine is that ICS uses better the CPU but in order to use less battery, perhaps htc lowered the gpu speed. I am not a benchmark guy and I did not made benchmarks before to compare, but I will post some benchs from my ICS and perhaps someone with htc GB can make the same to compare.

Updated my unbranded Evo 3D GSM with the official OTA. After that the GPS doesn't work very well at all

Everything works perfect, GPS works even better than before with GB.

for those that did the update , do we now have zero shutter lag ?
Anybody tried king cobras latest rom based on official release of rogers OTA... correct me if i am wrong, I supposed it was a released which is the same as the official one... with some tweaks only... have anybody compared both releases (official VS. king cobra's V 1.6) especially the camera shutter speed?

Hello,

I have a problem trying to install this...
My phone is S-Off, Hboot 1.49.1107, has CWM 5.0.4...
And everything is ok.

Installed GB as instructed, trying to install modded OTA file, but gives error status 7
Read about this, and seems it´s about the phone CID.

Went check it out...
>fastboot getvar cid
->returns as CID :0202

>fastboot oem readcid
->returns as CID : 11111111

Tried to re-write again...
>fastboot oem writecid 11111111
>fastboot getvar cid
-> and still return as CID:0202

How can I solve this?

---------- Post added at 10:47 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:18 AM ----------

Tried to re-write again
>fastboot oem writecid HTC__001
>fastboot getvar cid
-> still CID:0202

Downgraded the Hboot to 1.49.007

and now...
>fastboot getvar CID
-> CID : HTC__001

>fastboot oem readcid
-> CID : HTC__001

will retry to install ota modded now.

---------- Post added at 11:19 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:47 AM ----------

Nop... still getting error status 7... :/

---------- Post added at 11:30 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:19 AM ----------

Can someone post update-script ?
I mean with the # correctly added...

Now go back to your "META-INF/com/google/android/" in the 7zip and delete the existing "updater-script", and the put inside the new one from the desktop

    4. push the zip to your SD card now and install it from 4ext recovery (and don't forget to install firmware as described in the first post)

I would recommend to flash my Rom whilst with new hbooot u probably won't be able to flash any custom roms is ur choice.

u all missing the first step u MUST HAVE LATEST GB ROM INSTALLED
THE OTA is PATCH for GB ROM it will check all neded files then patch them
afther patching it will copy new files thats it

    the name S_OFF_4EXT_RECOVERY_OTA_SHOOTER_U_ICS_35_S_HTC_Europe_3.28.401.1-1.20.401.8_release_2627623qpt0ma8rnwgn0qq.zip

    from 1.20.401.8 patch to 3.28.401.1
    3
    its still not confirmed..

also possible that downgrade will be possible

I confirm you that downgrading won't work.
You know why? because they now also check the hboot version if the current one is lower than the one you flash. Downgrading misc partition will work but hboot won't. No chance for you. it's the same problem that the cmda peops had.

Also to everyone who has root and s-off. Don't flash the official Update!
