I'm not a Dev so this is my contribution to the HTC One-Sprint community.

This is a DIY root method. By doing it yourself you will learn some basic knowledge about using cmd windows, using ADB,using fastboot.
This is also the same method used in my Guide for the HTC Evo 4G LTE.

Unlock your bootloader - www.htcdev.com Follow the instructions at HtcDev to unlock your bootloader.

Flash TWRP-CWM-PhilZ_Touch Recovery - (refer to the Read Me First Text on how to fastboot flash TWRP-CWM-PhilZ_Touch Recovery)

Flash a Superuser app of your choosing - (refer to the Read Me First Text on how to flash SuperSU)

<---- If this guide helped you buy me a coffee :p

The rooting method was flawless and very easy. Thank you very much for that. Now I would like to ask what to expect next. Since I didn't install a new rom after rooting and I'm still on stock what should I do if an OTA update comes out? Is it safe to take the update?

---------- Post added at 10:03 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:02 AM ----------

Is wi-fi tether working after root?

Yes I was able to get tether to work.

Does the HTC root method still completely (and needlessly) wipe the device? I remember it doing this from my EVO 3D days...

All this method will do is unlock your bootloader(HtcDev) install TWRP or CMW and flash a superuser app of your choice AFAIK it won't wipe anything

Step 13 (HtcDev)

On your phone you will now see the disclaimer. Please read this carefully as this action may void your warranty. Use the Volume buttons to highlight your choice, and the Power button to make your selection. If you select Yes, your phone will be reset to its’ factory default settings, and your bootloader will be unlocked. If you select No, your phone will reboot and no modifications will have been made.

Unlocking phone bootloader does indeed completely wipe everything save for system software.

Please STOP with the general chit-chat. This was put here strictly to be used as a [Resource][Guide][Root].

Please bring any Q&A to that section. If you feel a resource is missing then let the OP know.

Video is recorded. Now I just need to edit it. I am DETERMINED to get it up tonight. I didn't simply point my camera at my monitor. I recorded my screen with camtasia in crystal clear 1080p and then I'll have the phone as an overlay for the best video quality possible. This is going to take at least a few hours to edit.
