MJ1 has no free unlock. I'm on it right now.

Also does anyone know how to use Telus 4.4 and CyanogenMod 4.4 while being able to downgrade. I wish I was able to arbitrarily jump between firmware versions :/

This is reserved for W8 only! If you have any other model, this will not work

Whats different from the other other upgrade threads? This one doesn't block you from going back to 4.3, it allows you to retain knox 0x0 and it's safe.

Just tried this, worked perfectly. I came from X-Note 7.0 and did this on my friends Note 3 and he was on stock. I already had knox 0x1 but i was alble to keep his at 0x0.

As of now, this has only been tested on W8 model as it takes the files from the Telcel firmware (mexico). You can use this method on any W8 model, the only thing you will have to change is substitute my modem (CP) by the modem from the latest 4.3 firmware of your carrier. It seems as the MD5 from all modems for all canadian carriers match exactly, so the model for rogers also applies to Bell and Telus

If you are coming from a non-canadian W8, you can extract your modem directly from stock firmware. Here is how:

Upgrading to Kit Kat and downgrading back to 4.3 does not trip knox, and rooting using my instructions either. Be sure to turn off reactivation lock before flashing this. This method gives you an easy way to official 4.4.2, once you're there, you can flash any 4.4 rom.

Also, and this is an important factor for a lot of people, this doesn't block you from going back to 4.3. If ever you want to go back to Jelly Bean 4.3, just flash back to it via ODIN

Download all the files, PIT, BL, AP. CP and CSC, the flash via ODIN 3.09. Then flash CF-Root and CWM if you wish. I did not check re-partition in ODIN, it worked for both of my Notes, most users didn't check it either, but a small few said the flash failed until they checked re-partition, either way, it should not brick your device.

Here are the links to the files:

Enjoy!

Thanks to Oogar for a more complete version of this process. This method does break WiFi and NFC so head over to his thread for the patch and a proper thanks

We have a problem, a Huge big red word FAIL, happens when using your method. SW Rev Check Fail [aboot] fused 3 > binary 2.

???????

I need to flash stock, and I am at the downloading do not turn off target, etc. And it just auto fails...

Please assist, asap. Have followed your tutorial thoroughly.

My phone, top to bottom before clicking start... from the phone (not odin).

"odin mode"
product name: SWN900W8
Current Binary: Custom????? (Custom what???? This is a stock phone!!!!)
System Status: Custom (Seriously, This is a stock phone, bought straight from BELL)
Reactivation Lock: OFF
Knox Kernel Lock: 0x0
Knox Warranty Void: 0x0
Qualcomm Secureboot: Enable (csb)
AP SWREV: S2, T2, A2, A3, P2
Write protection: Enable (Is this the problem????? How do I fix!!)
UOC START (Red font).

Please advise... needing help asap....

So random note, All but the BL Line worked. (CWM after the fact did work).

I had to manually PDA (AP), then cp, then csc, then pit with csc... then "ap" cwm.

Don't know why, but it is BOOTING, and is WORKING presently...

CWM does exist now. Not sure about rooting, but I think so also, can't test until the apps fully install 3hrs later...

Still your process works, ish.... Need to know. DO I NEED "BL" at all, and what for...

Wifi seems to work automatically, no fancy changes.... No alternate help needed yet...

UpdateHi Polish - pat,
Another satisfied customer here :).
I came from the CA Note 3 (MJ4 rooted via Kingo). Followed your instructions on the op to the letter and it worked flawlessly.
Knox= 0x0.
Everything seams to working just fine.
Many thanks for all the time and work you put into this for all of us. It is appreciated!

I have one small issue: TWRP is not able to backup the system to my ext SD card ("Failed"- can't write to the card). Works fine to the int SD. It seam to me that someone else had this issue, but I just can't find the post. Can you help with this?
Thanks again and button pushed.

Update: Solved the issue with system saves to the ext SD, by flashing TWRP 2.7.0.3 for the N9005. Works OK now.

Guys, i move away from Note 3 and bought the S5 so I'll be a lot less present here.

As for the backup to external, if i understood correctly, it's an issue with Kit Kat disabling apps to write to external. Not sure what the solution would be except to have a rom thats patched that feature.

Ok Pat, thanks for your reply. I switched to the CWM, from the op, and that writes to the ext SD just fine.
Good luck with your new en-devour (the S5).

If you're on NB7 (which is what I think you should be one), then rooting it shouldn't trip Knox as far as I can tell. I'm not 100% sure of this myself (haven't tested that specifically), but other users have reported this to be the case.

Yes I am on NB7, correct me if I am wrong but I root with odin 3.09 than CWM, Its just unusual for me since my device came stock as N57.

Requir rooting only.

Hi,

First timer here...:)

I am ONLY interested in rooting my Note 3 (SM-N900W8) KitKat. I would like to keep my current firmware. To that end, can I just ignore everything else but the "CF-ROOT" procedure, outlined below, to root my Note 3 without tripping its e-fuse Knox counter? If I do require YOUR 4.4.2 firmware, then can you tell me what's the difference between the two firmwares? Or better yet, can you tell me where I can download my current firmware so I can re-flash it after this rooting process?

Thank You very much!:good::good:

PS. Sorry to quote your whole post but I did not want to cause any misunderstandings. I understand that I only have 1 shot at not tripping the Know counter.

This is just an example on how to extract a modem from a stock firmware:

    Use winrar to:
1- extract firmware downloaded on sammobile.com or other (please use latest firmware), should output an MD5 file.
2- Rename that file from xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.tar.md5 to xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.tar
3- extract .tar firmware and locate modem.bin file
4- compress the modem.bin, it should give you a modem.zip
    5- rename that modem.zip to modem.tar
6- You not have your flashable odin modem

I can confirm after testing this a few times on the N9005 that it is only working on the N900w8.

Thanks. Did it trip KNOX? I guess not.

you guessed correct! What made you guess that? The fact that he says "I spent 6 hrs of flashing and goofing around. My phone is stil OxO!!!!"???:p

Only the .pl firmware currently, status on sammobile shows AFG (Afghanistan) region is pending apparently, so I expect a wide roll out any time soon.

in that case, can we apply this method and substitute the mexican files for the polish ones? It seems technically possible
