Im on a frankeinstein rom (2.3.6) and Kies obviously doesnt recognise it. Going to reflash stock (2.3.4) for update to recognise.

Based on this, I would say not necessarily

If unofficial or customized firmware is installed in the mobile, unexpected problem can happen during upgrading

not neccessary - flashed some ICS rom over gingerbread and there was no special troubles with it - ICS have special migration scripts and in 99 % it went smothly - other 1 % was made right by titanium backup restore after upgrade

remeber - nandroid backup before touching anything + titanium backup... then flash .

If you need clean install - some roms simply wont upgrade - use titaniu mbackup to restore everything -- if that fail ... redo your backup form nandrid one

Kies is an official software by Samsung through which you can transfer files, take backup of your phone..

its just like Apple's I-Tunes..

Probably due to the storm of online protest over that "no Flash" support?
Perhaps they are trying to re-word it now ...

Smells like the anticipation Apple tries to build but using a differant method; for example all those "leaked" betas and "leaked" gingerbread ROMs prior to that.

what do they mean no flash?
