markbc01,

We have fixed every single issue you have noted. This tool was very difficult to perfect for several reasons, one we had to make it compatible with all 3 Kindle so it took a bit of time to perfect and two most people are not reading the most important page - the first one - how to setup the software properly. //... // If you plan to use our software, do yourself a favor, read page 1, then use the software.

Hi Prokennexusa

- Sincere thanks for your courteous and helpful reply!
- As busy are you are working this package, I was not seeking to sidetrack you, but only offering an option to others who might be perplexed, or seek a simple way to "reset" and get things working. It often is a good choice to wipe one's system and reflash/re-image, and start a-fresh, especially in android! :) and that was my only point!
- Thank you, as well for your fix on the lagging system. I did read the OP prior to using the package, and your point is well taken. I would add to that point that a good search of the thread is also not a wasted effort. While the OP does not mention lag or fixes, there are 19 posts (at least) that mention lag issues --and most importantly, they include one by you (on 21 Feb 05:55pm to Infobits) where you actually provided the adb solution that you kindly repeated for me above!

Lesson learned… I thought I had done an effective search, but when I really knew what I was looking for, the answer popped out!

Finally, thank you for your patient, mentoring approach in the way you deal with everyone who chimes in on this exciting project. Your professional manner in dealing with angry questions, blunt comments, and an amazing amount of good or strange ideas, is a lesson on how to work well and successfully with any problem! You keep the stress level down and the positive solutions frequent!

I am sure there are thousands of others like me, who are eager to see it succeed and for it to be the true swiss army knife for KFTT.

:good:

P.S. . . . This package still wouldn't be hurt by adding TWRP for KFTT (if that has been solved yet! I don't think I have seen it, but I have not been looking lately!)

Hello prokennexusa I have some troubles with 2 apps of Google from your pack. First I installed like you say the first the play store with the option 18 I installed I installed the Google apps with option 23. All is working perfect except:

1.-Location in maps and Google earth doesn´t work say the message "Waiting for location" then "Your current location is temporarily unavailable".
2.-In Gmail application when I try to launch say a pop up Gmail has stopped then the app close.

Any idea on how can I fix that 2 problems?
Thank you for the help

field3d,

I know we posted a long explanation on how to fix this, we have not been able to get to the new posts yet, we wanted to give you an update with Gmail.

Today we played with Gmail a bit and found it worked perfectly after:

1. Go to the Kindle Task Bar, choose More+ Applications, Installed Applications, find Gmail Clear the Data and reboot

That fixed the Gmail problem for us, I am going through the posts now, hopefully we will see an update.

Sorry I was away from the computer for awhile. Originally I saw "Kindle > Android ADB Interface", but when I re-downloaded the newest Java, under device manager I now see "Portable Devices > Kindle".
Hope that helps.

LOLephant In The Room,

Sorry, I was working on the issue that was breaking the Kindles, we finally solved it.

Please download and upgrade to Version 65, the setup as per Post #1: http://xdaforums.com/showpost.php?p=36647251&postcount=1

Once you have the software properly setup, select Option 11 to Test ADB, does it show a serial number? Please reply with answer.

Hi Chris,

Tired your method but it did not work. I had Kindle extended setting app installed immediately after I restored my Kindle with your tool and noticed it was set at "turn off lockscreen ads "mode and I couldn't change it. If I toggle it on and it would revert to off after the required reboot. So I uninstalled this app too.

I copied over the app you gave me, changed permission and go to Kindle's own launcher, still no offer tab. Then I went to the folder and installed the app, nothing changed. Reboot it, still not working. I also noticed there was a bat file with the same name as the app and the same size too, so I moved it out leaving only the dchp_apk.apk in system /app. Still not working. I am out of ways now.

A side note, the shop tab in my Kindle launcher seems broken too. If I click it, it won't open the Amazon site but pop error saying can't launch shop. However the amazon mobile app works perfectly fine if clicking from app drawer. Dunno if it's related.

Sent from my KFTT using Tapatalk HD

I too have been having issues after installing the Google apps from this toolkit where all of a sudden the "Shop" tab on the Amazon launcher fails to launch the shop app. It seems to get broken when the google play store updates some of the Google apps. Does anyone know why this gets corrupted? Is it a configuration file somewhere that gets changed by some update and can we just edit it back into place?

Another note to Chris, I see you are making progress on cleaning up your scripts and it is getting better. But I still found lots of typo bugs that I had to manually edit and fix to make the Google Play install and Google apps install steps run successfully.

BTW, you do not need to put those "> nul" redirection statements in all those places that you have them in. They all fail to execute on my systems. It is a cause for much headaches of your user base! You also need to make sure all the adb shell statements use the "su -c " parameters so that they don't fail with permission errors. Anyway, just my suggestions in helping you improve your toolkit. I see that you did remove the needless Qemu old adb.exe stuff which I said was not needed and you lashed out at me for it. I am just helping you improve.
There are still many redundant mounting and remountings and reboots going on that I personally would remove to streamline the script. But do what you feel best. These are just my suggestions that I've done on my equipment that works without so many reboots and mounts and dismounts in between some of the steps.

BTW, with your Google apps installs, Gmail does not work for me sometimes. Google Earth is dead slow and does not work well. After awhile the top notifications bar will disappear (some other forum says it's due to Gmail notifications). And as I and a few others have experienced, the "Shop" tab of the launcher menu bar will stop working too. We need to figure out why all these quirks are happening. I have no idea why the Amazon "Shop" tab just stops launching after some Google apps get updated. Maybe some one can figure it out. But all is not perfect here yet.

I don't think there is anything wrong with the code here you just don't have enough space on the device, but how do you fix that?!

Kindle Fire First Aide Revision 4.1.66-Beta - AVIC Alice TTS Engine

update using rev60:

i was one who uses win7 x64 and installed previous version of google apps that caused the kindle to be unresponsive, laggy, black lock screen, flickering screens and it would say "My Kindle" at the top. after reinstalling google apps (#23) using rev60 it seems like My Kindle is now back to being Eric's Kindle, no more lag and flickering and the lock screen is back. thanks for your many hours of troubleshooing.

below is the last portion of the output i was able to copy. even though it got stuck at daemon started after its final reboot, its back to normal.

ejbmvp,

First let me apologize for the delay, we have been focusing out efforts today in trying to make this version as perfect as possible. We are getting close! Thank you for posting the details that is very helpful and speaks louder than words. Do you know how to take a screen shot? The reason I ask is it take up less web space and gives more details. If you have Microsoft Paint or Pictures (they are both free, included with most installs), then you have everything you need to take a screen shot. Here we go, your solution. We are aware of the problem with AVIC Free, please download the update, do not worry we fixed the issue causing lag.

Step 1: Download the update Rev 66 deployed at 22:45 today. Extract and upgrade per the instructions: http://xdaforums.com/showpost.php?p=36647251&postcount=1

Step 2: Run Option 23, we have upgraded Apps, some of the older ones were causing some minor issues.

Step 3: Test AVIC Free, does it work?

Kindle Fire First Aide Revision 4.1.66-Beta - Google Apps Question

I had a bit of a problem yesterday with version 4.1.53 yesterday. I have a Kindle Fire HD with the latest firmware version. It is rooted using Qemuroot with Google store running okay.

I ran a full backup successfully. I then proceeded to try and install the Google apps Option 23 (non-factory regular old cable). It seemed to go well except that I got the error message 'SH Can Not Create Nul: Read-Only File System' twice. I entered and left Fastboot just fine. After rebooting I was left with a grey start screen, gray blank icons a really slow unhappy Kindle.

I looked in the mirror and thanked myself for making backup.

Restore went just fine. The Kindle was slow after the restore, but I got normal operation back after stopping every task in Setting>More>Apps and rebooting.

So I am back up and running, but gun shy. What could I have done wrong or what went wrong? I don't want to try anything else without your folks guidance. This was all done in Windows 7 64-bit under an elevated command prompt.

thanks

kindle_user_webb,

Thank you, it is always a good idea to backup prior to doing anything to the Kindle. Sometimes you have to Wipe the User Data and Cache after the restore.

I am glad you are asking us about the upgrade, yesterday we would have said wait but today all the options are executing error free. You may use our software to Install Google Play Store. Just FYI, Option 20 is the Qemu Root Method and Option 21 is the Root Many Android Method line for line, so next time you can use our software to Root the Kindle.

How To Take a screen shot

Ever see something on your screen that you’d like to email or save for later? With Microsoft Windows XP, you can take a screen shot and capture an exact image of what’s on the screen.
To take a screen shot and save it as a picture

  1. Click the window you want to capture. Press Alt+Print Screen by holding down the Alt key and then pressing the Print Screen key. The Print Screen key is near the upper-right corner of your keyboard. (Depending on the type of keyboard you have, the exact key names on your keyboard may vary slightly.)
    Note

    • You can take a screen shot of your entire desktop rather than just a single window by pressing the Print Screen key without holding down the Alt key.

  2. Click Start, click Accessories, and then click Paint.
  3. In the Paint window, click Edit, and then click Paste.
  4. When the image appears in the Paint window, click File, and then click Save As.
  5. In the Save As dialog box, in the File name box, type a name for the screen shot, and then click Save.

You can now print or email the saved screen shot just like you would any other picture.

Kindle Fire First Aide Revision 4.1.66-Beta - General Questions

I am sorry, you asked an important question:

What could I have done?

Answer: I suspect nothing. The Kindle is a very unusual tablet, although it is a solid product. When we began to develop this software, we had over 36 Years of experience in the development field but we knew this experiance would completely not carry over to the Kindle Fire. The Kindle Fire uses Android Ice Cream Sndwich, so in the beginning we wrote the scripts for Ice Cream Sandwich and just about every operation failed, we knew we had a challenging product, this made us like the Kindle even more - it was a pure challenge! There is not a day that goes by that we do not learn something new. Every day we enter the office ready for anything! The Kindle Fire is truly a unique product and our dream is to offer the best software available for the Kindle. Most of the packages in Kindle Fire First Aide were all compiled specifically for the Kindle Fire, they would not work on any another tablet. We take special effort to make the package error free, although something new arises everyday. The current Version 66 is over 10,000 lines of code and well over a few thousand hours of work. We are on hold with adding features, we are working to get this version from Beta to Stable, at the current version we are about 1 week away from considering this a stable release.

Does this mean this version will cause trouble? NO. It will work fine, what may happen is a few errors will display during the install, these errors are all non-critical, do not worry.

Please do us a favor, do a Option 18 Install and post the screen shot with your comments. Then do a Option 23 install and post the screen shot with your comments, OK?

We look forward to helping you more in the future. This package is still in it's infancy the long term dream is quite large, you are at our ground zero, thank you for your support, you mean a lot to us!

Here is the update and some information.

Kindle Fire First Aide Revision 4.1.66-Beta - Google Apps

im sure he will repsond yo you. but i believe you had the same issues thats been going on for me (see my above post) and some others over the past 10+ pages. basically go back a few pages and download 4.1.60 and use that to install google apps.

ejbmvp,

The new version has been fixed, the old version does install but it installs older Apps. We spent over 8 hours today on the Google Apps install and the Audio upgrades, all the options execute without causing any problems on the Kindle Fire. The current version installs apps that we dated back in December of 2012, version 60 installs Apps that were dated back in January 2012, almost 1 year older apps.

The new version 66 is going to be converted from Beta to Stable by the end of this week. This point forward we are working on polishing the code, new features are on hold until this version converts to stable. This is one of the reasons we stayed up all night and worked though the day today, we wanted to pull out all the issues from the current code, I really believe we are finally there, check the new version when you have time.

Kindle Fire First Aide Revision 4.1.66-Beta - Recovery and Driver Questions

hi Chris i rooted the kindle it came up in root checker that i was rooted so i installed the google apps no problem then i installed the sony xLoud and this is where the problems began when it had installed the kindle screen went black then it came up on computer screen about installing drivers.the kindle does not boot now when i power it up it says kindle fire then the screen stays black and when i plug it into the computer under device manager it shows other devices/kindle yellow triangle it says installing drivers then says no drivers can be found ope you can help me with this problem as i cannot do anything with the kindle

dekor8tor,

I am really sorry dekor8tor, we found a bug in the xLoud install. The bug has been pulled from the package and we inserted new code and packages. These new packages were tested one by one today. Option 27 now executes smoothly but you need to be sure you are running Version 66, this is the version that includes the new files and code.

As a matter of fact, we spent well over 8 to 10 hours today to make all the options smooth. We took the time to Polish up Option 20 Qemu Method Root and Option 21 Root Many Android Method Root. Then we went down the list, when we got to the Google Apps we took the time to upgrade all the apps, we now run the latest and greatest version of ICS Google Apps all are signed APK's. Then we got to the Audio upgrades, these are very important tom us, I design ultra high end amps and preamp's for Peter Quatrup with Audio Note, so music and sound are really my specialty. having said this, we take special care when building out Option 27, 28 and 29. When we tested Option 27 today, it Bricked my Kindle, so we then restored it and began to debug the code and packages, it did not take long, we found the problem with the Audio upgrades. Some of the source packages provided by Sony were for Jelly Bean, we accidentally deployed a few of the Jelly Bean files when we uploaded the upgrade to our servers. Today we pulled and replaced the files. Now Option 27, 28 and 29 run perfectly on the Kindle Fire. We will be adding a GUI/Interface to tweak the settings. We are in the middle iof building the Framework now. The upgrade works without the interface, we just want to give the end user the same functions and options offered on Sony tablets that include Xloud and Bravia Engine 2.

The long story short? You can safely install the audio options without worrying about Bricking the Kindle. You may use Option 38 to fix the Broken install. Option 38 is a new Option deployed in Version 4.1.66-Beta today at 00:30. Worse case scenario, you may use our software to flash new software.

You mentioned about a Yellow Triangle in Device Manager, correct? Here is a Post describing the solution:

HOW TO FIX THE YELLOW KINDLE TRIANGLE: http://xdaforums.com/show...postcount=1062

When you run the options, can you post a screen shot so we can polish the code some more? We know the code runs without causing trouble, what we need now is different users output (screen shot) since everyones setup is different and the output may vary as the desktops change.

Kindle Fire First Aide Revision 4.1.66-Beta - Restore Problem

I have the same problem but after i re-flashed the system, instead of a black screen i now get a blue glowing kindle fire logo and i am stuck on it!

AmrBanawan,

Excellent! Despite the boot issues the Kindle is responding to commands, cool. Please download Rev 66 and run Option 38 Fix a Broken Install.

Can you take a picture and post the Kindle Fire Screen?

You see, my thoughts are the Kindle Fire is Booting to a point, correct? Kind of like it is missing the build.prop file. Option 38 attempts to copy a new build.prop to the Kindle then fixes the permissions. Please post a screen shot of the output from Option 38 so we can see just how much the Kindle is responding. What confuses me is that you flashed new software, correct? Then it should boot fine, I am confused. Maybe the output will explain a little.

Kindle Fire First Aide Step 8: Please click on the Windows Key plus Pause/Break, this will display the Windows System Properties. Next Click on the Advanced Tab and find "Environment Variables". Please click on Environment Variables and find the Path Statement. Carefully add at the end of the Path Statement:

    Code:
    ;C:\KFFirstAide

Note: Do Not forget the (;) semi-colon before the C:\KFFirstAide

Kindle Fire First Aide Step 9: That is it! The software is ready. Next we get the Kindle ready to Flash.

Kindle Fire First Aide Step 10: Next, go to the Kindle, pull down the status menu, select More+ then select Security, make sure Enable ADB is ON. Last, depress the <- and select Device. Make sure 'Allow Installation of Applications' is On.

Kindle Fire First Aide Step 11: Insert the Original USB Cable to the Kindle, please ensure you have a solid connection, this is VERY critical.

Kindle Fire First Aide Step 12: Next, make sure the Kindle Fire is Turned Off. Take the other end of the USB Cable and carefully inset it into a free USB Slot on your Computer - be careful to not disconnect the other end.

Kindle Fire First Aide Step 13 : The Kindle Fire should automatically turn on and boot regular Bootmode. If the Kindle does not turn on depress the power button until it turns on. Next select Option 15 in the Software. The Kindle will reboot and will now see a screen that says: Fastboot Kindle Fire.

Note: If Option 15 does not trigger the Kindle to boot into Fastboot, then your Bootloader is damaged. Please send SkOrPn a PM to order a Factory USB Cable.

Kindle Fire First Aide Step 14: Place the Kindle on a safe surface so it does not disconnect when running the software.

Kindle Fire First Aide Step 15: Launch the KF First Aide software by double mouse clicking on the KF First Aide icon.

Kindle Fire First Aide Step 16: You will be presented with a Kindle Fire First Aide Menu, carefully select the operations you would like to perform on the Kindle.

Kindle Fire First Aide Step 17: If the option states "Fastboot" you need to leave the Kindle as noted above, this is Fastboot Mode. As the last operation be sure to Wipe the Cache and User Data which is Backup Option 3 in the Menu.

Kindle Fire First Aide Step 18: Next, we will disable "Fastboot Mode" and enable ADB on the Kindle Fire. Select Option 10 in the Software Menu, the Kindle will Reboot into Regular Mode.

Kindle Fire First Aide Step 19: You may now perform the 'ADB Mode' options in the Menu.

Kindle Fire First Aide Note 1: Remember, after you perform the full Recovery, you are working with a Fresh Copy of the Software. ADB is disabled by default so be sure to Enable ADB under Security and Allow Installation of Programs under the Device Tab.

Kindle Fire First Aide Note 2: After the complete restore, please be sure to clear the Davlik Cache and the User Data by selecting Backup Option #3. You may also wipe the User Data and Cache by opening a Administrative Command Prompt within the KFFirstAide Folder and enter:

    Code:
    fastboot -i 0x1949 erase cache
    fastboot -i 0x1949 erase userdata
    fastboot -i 0x1949 reboot

Kindle Fire First Aide Note 3: The original versions of the Kindle Fire HD 8.9" with a software Versions 8.2.3 or 8.2.4 may find there Kindle Boot-loader loops to a Red Fastboot Screen. If your Kindle is stuck in Fastboot, please follow these steps to recover the Boot-loader: How To Recover Kindle Fire HD 8.9" Bootloader*

Note: Please be aware of two main options in the Menu - one is Fastboot Mode where you have several Menu Operations that use Fastboot to execute properly and two is ADB Mode where you have several Menu Operations that use ADB to execute properly.

Backup Option #1 Note: When selecting Backup Option 1 the images will be backed up to the SD Card in a folder named KindleBackup. Please copy this folder to your desktop until we are able to upload it to our secure servers. There will be a restore option in the future that will automatically pull YOUR images for restoration. There is a known Bug in Windows where you will not see the images in the Kindle Internal Drive which can be found in Computer. To overcome this issue, please download and install WiFi File Transfer then open your Web Browser to transfer these Backup files from your Kindle to the PC.

Backup Option #2 Note: When selecting Backup Option 2 the images are first copied to the Kindle, then they are transfered to your Computer inside a folder named Backup which can be found inside the C:\KFFirstAide folder.

*Note: After several conference calls with the Amazon Development Team we found Amazon applied a patch to the Bootloader in an effort to lock down the Bootloader, this patch rarely causes the Bootloader to stick or Bootloop, please use the above link to release the Bootloader. We have removed this patch from the boot-prod.img eliminating future issues with recovered HD 8.9" users.

How To Manually Recover The Kindle Fire 8.9" Stuck In Fastboot?

    To All-

If you would like to try a last ditch effort in getting the Kindle Fire 8.9" back online, please do the following:

Step 1: Please run the Kindle Fire First Aide, attempt the HD 8.9" Recovery, if it fails move on to Step 2

Step 2: Exit the Kindle Fire First Aide utility, double mouse click the KFFirstAide Folder.

Step 3: Download Boot Image Number 1 from here (save the image to the KFFirstAide Folder): http://dl.dropbox.com/u/54456659/kfhd-8.2.3/Images/boot-prod.img

Step 4: Download Recovery Image Number 2 from here (save the image to the KFFirstAide Folder): http://dl.dropbox.com/u/54456659/kfhd-8.2.3/Images/recovery-prod.img

Step 5: Open up an Administrative Command Prompt from within the KFFirstAide Folder by opening up the KFFirstAide Folder then press your Right Hand Mouse Key while you are over the KFFirstAide Folder contents, then select Open a command prompt here. You should see something like

    Code:
    C:\Users\Your Name\KFFirstAide>
Step 6: Next you would make sure the Kindle Fire is plugged into USB and Turned off, type the following and press enter after the command while the Kindle is off and plugged into USB:

    Code:
    fastboot reboot -i 0x1949
Step 6: You will see a Windows Command Prompt that will look like:

    Code:
    C:\Users\Your Name\KFFirstAide>fastboot reboot -i 0x1949
    <waiting for device>
Step 7: Next Power on the Kindle While you see the above, one the Kindle Boots the Kindle will suddenly reboot back into Fastboot although we have seen this step free the Bootloader, so if the Kindle begins to Boot normally unplug it from USB, if the Kindle boot back to Fastboot red screen proceed to step 8.

Step 8: While the Kindle is in Fastboot Mode type the following at the Windows Command Prompt:
    Code:
    fastboot flash recovery recovery-prod.img -i 0x1949
    Code:
    fastboot erase cache -i 0x1949
    fastboot erase userdata -i 0x1949
    fastboot reboot -i 0x1949
Step 9: Leave the Kindle Plugged into USB. Wait for the device to Boot back to Fastboot, if the device boot back to a Fastboot screen with odd vertical line running through it, stop here, the Kindle has begun the recovery phase. If the Kindle begins it recovery, it will react odd and reboot several times, this is normal. Wait 10 to 15 minutes. If the Kindle boot back to Red Fastboot Screen proceed to Step 10.

Step 10: Leave the Kindle Plugged into USB. Next type the following command:

    Code:
    fastboot flash boot boot-prod.img -i 0x1949
Step 11: Next let's do a little house cleaning. The following commands wipe the old Dalvik Cache and User Data which is, in simple, tied to the old Android Operating System. Having said this, when the new OS attempts to retrieve data from these partitions, a content stream of errors occur in the background, causing the Kindle to react VERY slow and at times completely unresponsive. To eliminate this problem we will wipe these partitions before booting the new OS. Please enter the following commands, press enter after each one:

    Code:
    fastboot erase cache -i 0x1949
    fastboot erase userdata -i 0x1949
    fastboot reboot -i 0x1949
Step 12: Unplug from USB. The Kindle HD 8.9" will reboot with an odd Fastboot screen with vertical lines running through it, this is normal, do not interrupt the recovery. Let the Kindle begin it's recovery phase. This may take up to 10 to 15 minutes and the Kindle will reboot several times.

Step 13: Once the Kindle Stabilizes, please be sure to apply the Amazon OTA Patch before connecting the Kindle to your WiFi, otherwise you will loose Root and Google Play Store which are both installed on the images.

Step 14: After you applied the patches please wait for the Kindle to rebuild itself, this can take up to a couple of hours. If after 4 hours the Kindle is still reacting slow, perform a Kindle Fire HD 8.9" Factory Reset. This option can be found under the More+ > Device > Restore to Factory Defaults. We find this last step is rarely used.
