Clockworkmod Recovery (CWM) + TeamWin Recovery (TWRP) for LG P940 (Prada 3.0)

As we can't modify neither boot nor recovery partition we need use 2nd-init.
This means that the whole recovery resides on the system partition.
For more info see this article about 2nd-init: http://cvpcs.org/blog/2011-06-14/2nd-init._what_it_is_and_how_it_works

This is now a fully signed recovery!
We can manually sign the images now (leaked LG RSA keys). This means this installs to the separate recovery partition and is not bound to the installed rom anymore.

You can also flash a custom recovery via fastboot (no prior rooting required)
see http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=2250277

How to install
  • Make sure you have rooted your phone (e.g. by following this guide by Walhalla: http://xdaforums.com/showpost.php?p=28568521&postcount=8)
  • Download the apk
  • Install the apk on your phone
  • Press "Install Recovery" and grant superuser permissions
  • Be patient and press "ok" once finished
  • Reboot and hold VOLUME DOWN + CAMERA while booting
  • Celebrate

NOTE: I take no responsibility whatsoever for raging, screaming, crying, frustration, failing, confusion, etc.

TWRP now included in package

a new version (1.0.0.3) is available for download

this one also includes TWRP which has full touch support!
for more information visit http://teamw.in/project/twrp2

first post updated. if you had version 1.0.0.2 installed you first need to uninstall the installer application before you can install 1.0.0.3 (sry trouble with the signing keys).

don't know what you exactly mean with "restoring system apps".

if you are talking about restoring the system partition; well, that should work flawlessly.

EDIT: bear in mind that the settings and data from your system apps are stored in the /data partition.

thats NOT a bug.
try to be more careful with that term.

/system/app/ is the correct system app folder.
/system/apps/ is some lg preinstalled crap from the "system2" partition we definately dont need.

EDIT: actually the other way round - system2 is mounted to /system/app

yeah, /system/app is actually an extra partition on lg's stock rom.
type "mount" in a shell and see what i amtalking about.

the recoveries are aimed to be used with custom roms, so i wont maintain any support for stock roms.
i barely have any freetime atm and am pretty busy getting cm9 to run (without all that awful drm stuff).

if you want to install an app to /system/app/ you need to manually copy them, change the mounts (which involves modifying init) or by unmounting system2 and remounting /system.

new version

a new version (1.0.1.0) is available for download

this one fixes the last thing on the todo list - usb mounting.

everything should work now as expected - besides lg stock rom flaws like mounting an extra partition for system apps (recovery cant and shouldnt do anything about that).

have fun,
cheers

Milaq gb version 2.3 does not seem that partition would not be able to do CWM? in gb?
I think too much difference there is between the gb and ics

Is our Prada 3.0 capable of Video-call? Having a front facing camera I would think it would... but I just can´t find that option!
    I'm on ICS V20D...

yes, it is. 3g video calling should be possible. but please ask in the general prada 3.0 thread.

    Hello Sir @milaq,

I have SU760 official ICS 4.0.4 running, I installed your 1.0.1.0 Version apk and chose TWRP and it installed flawlessly.

It has been working great ever since. Now that you have updated your APK and it installs directly into recovery partition I wanted to know is it safe to install it in Optimus 3d SU760?

I know that an other developer dexter I guess have a working recovery but it only works with custom U-Boot and then you have to flash many other files, that process just scares me.

i've updated the installer so that it uses safe paths. i suggest you do a backup of the recovery partition with
    Code:
    dd if=/dev/block/platform/omap/omap_hsmmc.1/by-name/recovery of=/sdcard/recovery.bak
    in a terminal shell.

also, make a backup of your data via the 2nd init recovery you already have installed.

afterwards it should be alright to use version 2.1 of the recovery installer.
since we can access fastboot, the p940,p920 and variants are very hard to brick.
    2
    FIRST POST UPDATED!

We now have a fully fledged recovery (no 2nd init).
Have a look at the first post for more information.

    WARNING !

This method may lead to hard reset instead of recovery. I managed to wipe one Prada 3.0 doing exactly that
"Reboot and hold VOLUME DOWN + CAMERA while booting"

of course, if you forgot to flash a custom recovery image (i.e. the one included), you will wipe DATA and CACHE (not everything). because this is what the stock recovery does. CWM does not.
