I think they look at packets and see if it is desktop/mobile. Try making sure your desktop/laptop whatever's browser's UA is android.

How do u change the browser to look like Android?

I had my user agent changed in chrome and was using the agent for android 4.1 with the desktop web page request. That was fine until a week ago and then I started getting redirects from tmobile. Now I can only use regular android 4.1 which only gives you the mobile pages. This is a real drag on a laptop.

are these settings working for everyone? I used wifi tether 3.3 pre 2 version. My friend and I both have the note 2 but I used ics/jb wlan0 setting and wifi driver reload 1 settings. mine tethers fine. had it working with my sons new nabi 2 tablet last night. My friend however couldn't get it to work until he switched profile to galaxy s3 like below but that didn't work for me when I selected that profile.

It works for me but I still get the T-mobile upsell webpage. This is the only con to owning the T-mobile note 2 in my opinion. Almost switched to Sprint because this app works for their note 2 but I cant stand how slow their data is.

another workarounds for the upsell page:

1.use ubuntu on desktop(this is my method)
2.use vpn on windows (most of them are paid)
3.user agent change on windows

now if you want to watch netflix on tmobile unlimited internet from a desktop that is only possible with us vpn.

Sure it does... Method that works best for me is to use VPN, along with TrevE's moded wifi tether.

I use 'hotspot shield vpn' from the market.

Happy tethering everyone!

What did you mean by (Check Wifi Driver Reload 2) or was the (2) a typo?
And wasn't Routing fix steady checked? Cause it was for me. I'm using the jellybeer Tom and can't get it working :(

EDIT: I didn't relize I had version from 11/18
So I dl 11/22 version and (Check wifi driver reload 2) didn't work for me so I unchecked it, then checked the one above
Then worked perfect!

This works with openvpn too

I connect to my openvpn connection then start the wifi tether with this mod. It works great and they can't snoop into my packets. Tethering to desktop pc, android tablet, iphone, everything else. It works great. No message or upsell page ever.

    Works!

Well I decided to install Tweaked, since it has the latest update, UVBMD, and needed a tether. I had to reboot the computer, but it works. I have LTE in the Dallas area, the computer is getting 15MB up / 10Mb down.

    I used these settings, thanks for posting them careenprokop85;

    Settings for my TrevE tether:
"change device profile: samsung galaxy s3"
    "change set-up method: Netd-Ndc (master)"
    "fallback tether: BLANK"
"send netd max client cmd: checkmark"
    "enable wifi-encryption: checkemark"
"change passphrase: whatever u want for a password"
"change ssid: whatever u want it to say"
"change channel: Channel 01 (2412 MHz)"
    "dont disable bluetooth: BLANK"
    "wifi-driver reload: checkmark"
    "wifi-driver reload 2: BLANK"
    "Enable access-Control: BLANK"
    "keep alove- connection checking: BLANK"
    "shutdown timer: BLANK"
    "idle shutdown: BLANK"
    "quota shutdown limit: BLANK"
"Change LAN: (i didnt mess with this setting at all)"
    "Routing fix: checkmark"
and the rest of the settings i didnt mess with either

Also, can you tell me what freezing tethering provisions actually does?

When I got the apn put in and started the mobile ap, I had my tablet checking the Wi-Fi scanning and it would pick it up but I would get a pop up on my phone "checking services " or something of that nature and it would turn off the ap and bring me to the upsell page on my phone wanting me to buy the tethering plan. I got to messing around in Titanium Backup and noticed the tethering provision and just decided to see what would happen if I froze it. No more checking services pop up when I turned it on, just the settings have stopped pop up once, kept turning it on and after the 3 tries it stuck. I'm not sure exactly what it the tethering provision does but when frozen it just seems to keep the checking services from activating. I'm no pro at all this but if it works and doesn't cause major phone problems, I'll try anything with a good backup stored that is.

    Tethering with no problem

Im on 4.3 rooted stock and I can tether the old way with these APN settings without using APN Backup and restore.

Im new here so forgive me if I seem retarded on my instructions.

    1st be rooted of course
    2nd have Titanium Backup installed
3 Freeze Tethering Provisions via TB
4 install a tethering widget (I use Hotspot Toggle Widget by Fattin Hotspot Network free on playstore)
5 Create a new APN in your network settings using this APN

    Name
    T-Mobile US
    APN
    epc.tmobile.com
    Port
    not set
    Proxy
    not set
    Username
    not set
    Password
    not set
    Server
    not set
    MMSC
SEE PICTURE cant post link lol
    Multimedia message proxy
    not set
    Multimedia message port
    not set
    Authentication type
    not set
    APN type
    not set
    APN protocol
    IPv4
    APN roaming protocol
    IPv4
    Turn APN on/off
cant click on it so leave it
    Bearer
    Unspecified
    Mobile virtual network operater type
    none
    Mobile virtual network operator val...
    not set

6 Hit menu and save APN

7 Make sure new APN you just made is clicked on. Your data and network bar in notification screen will change, just reboot and you will get all network and data back.

8 Once rebooted and network up, add the tethering widget to your home screen.

9 Now for me i have to click on the widget 3 times, hit ok when it says settings have stopped, keep tapping the widget to get the Mobile AP icon on the notification bar to stick and work.

10 once its on you can tap the Mobile AP in the notification bar and setup your SSID and password.

    11 DONE !

Now this is working for me 100% with no problems other than having to tap the widget 3 times. I am on unlimited data plan, with 4gLTE and have not gotten any additional charges on my bill. Been using this method since I upgraded to 4.3 a few weeks ago.
