Isn't enough the zip crc32 check? I've always flashed modem via cwm on sgs and I've tried a lot with no problem. On a corrupted file it won't flash
BTW its not too complicated but sometime frustrating when you can't get a PC and you realize the modem just flashed is not working

The guy we helped on irc had a sgs style soft brick after flashing it.

So whatever recovery stuff and checksums failed... As such I suggest odin flashing modem, as it means you can recover a soft brick quickly and without having to harass people for help...

If cwm is validating sigs by default, I may look at it. But I am not too happy at the ability to disable signature verification... Signing a zip takes seconds for me to do on a 200 MB rom, so if someone can't do it, they shouldn't be trusted to release, if I'm brutally honest.

Either way if cwm looks safe enough, I'll consider it, but I have reservations in modem flashing without odin being handy...

Best Modem for me - KF2 {WIFI} - Proof

I have tested a few modem and i have the results of the KE4 and KF2.

KF2 being just a little bit better. I have blurred out the Access Point Names.

I have done this test over and over again from the same location and spot and have got around the same results.

The lower the number the better

It's not meant for this and is a user option to disable it or not. It's more a remain from older update.zip from Samsung that had to be signed with their key

Either way if cwm looks safe enough, I'll consider it, but I have reservations in modem flashing without odin being handy...

Good to know that.... all CyanogenMod modem have always been shipped that way since users reported different performances depending on their country... I think every report of modem should also tell from which country as sometime mobile data or even wifi get some restrictions due to specific laws about the range if frequencies.
One of the most common problem is the Canadian 850MHz range for bell users

An XDA thread
http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1022776

And just a Google search to see how spread is the problem for sgs and probably sgs2 too

Edit: I hate sammy auto-correctification... I should put this on my sig or maybe it's only my fingers too big :D

Good work pulser!

Should make these babies CMW flashable... so we can test on the go :)
Just a suggestion

I wrote at length about this in the previous page. Given someone had a soft brick from flashing a radio, and needed ODIN to fix it, it's not a good idea to go about flashing radios on the move...

You should have ODIN and known good copies of the MODEM to hand.

I will look at CWM and how safely it flashes, but for now it's ODIN only

Did a crossflash on my German S2:
Stock with rooted KE2, Modem to KF2...
Works quite fine, have the feeling it got a little better
(but I dont have real eq to proove it :rolleyes: )

And i would also like to have the possibility to CW it on the go...
No risk, no fun, EY?

Here's what happened on my end:

Stock ROM KE7 with KE4 radio, been having issues with 3G staying connected. Flashed KF2, got really slow init time to get data going, Wifi seemed capped and GPS was almost instantaneous.

Flashed KE7, got instant connect, instant GPS but wishy washy wifi connection. Will test further when I'm not in some weird dead zone. I hate Montreal for this. ;)

i9100T Modem?
The stock firmware is already posted.
How do you extract the modem only to be flash-able with ODIN?

Downloaded the stock firmware, extracted the modem.bin and created a tar out of it.
Will this work if flashed with ODIN?
Also does flashing it, cause other data to be lost?

Nevermind, I went ahead and did it.
Created the tar using the cygwin and tar with ustar parameters.

I have attached the original Vodafone Australia i9100T modem.
Modem is I9100TDUKF2.

Confirmed working here. Flash using ODIN.
Please flash on i9100T I do not know if it works on the i9100.

    Modems guide

    MODEM GUIDE

    FILE NAMES:

    The name of the Modem usually specifies the region its intended for, however... this doesn't mean it will work best for you. Classification of the Modem regions is as follows:

    CE---> Belgium, Luxembourg, Netherlands
    DC---> Thailand
    DD---> India
    DX---> Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam
    DZ---> Malaysia, Singapore
    JA---> South Africa
    JC---> Algeria, Morocco, Nigeria, South Africa, Tunisia
    JP---> Arabic, Algeria, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Morocco, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Syria
    JV---> Tunisia, Turkey
    UG---> North America
    UH---> Latin America, The Caribbean
    XE---> Bulgaria, Estonia, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Russia, Ukraine
    XX---> Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, United Kingdom
    XW---> Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Nordic, Spain, United Kingdom
    ZC---> China, Hong Kong
    ZH---> Hong Kong
    ZS---> China, Hong Kong
    ZT---> Taiwan

    Which Modem comes with which various Stock firmwares can be found out here:
    http://devsrom4android.blogspot.co.uk/2011/10/samsung-galaxy-s2-firmware-updates-via.html

    RECOMMENDED MODEMS TO TRY:

    KH3
    XXKI4
    NELP2
    NELP3
    NELP4
    XXLPX
    DXLP9
    DXLPA
    BVLP7 (tested by many, deemed to be a fantastic modem)

    DEFINITION:

    *Modem/Radio/Baseband is all the same thing and can be seen by going to Settings - About Phone - Baseband. It's basically a driver which receives and sends Mobile Network signals as well as handling switching between GPRS, 3G, HSDPA etc....... (but not WiFi connection, that and switchover between Mobile Network and WiFi is handled by the kernel). Reasoning as to why Modem has no influence on WiFi can be found in this post by Entropy - http://xdaforums.com/showpost.php?p=28052552&postcount=6556

    USAGE:

    *There is no one "Best" modem for everybody. Unfortunately you actually have to try to find the modem which works perfectly for you on performance, strength and battery drain levels. The good thing is that from my lengthy 8 month experience with Galaxy S2, I'm happy to report that there are a few modems that seem to perform well geographically for most users. These modems are KE7, KH3, KI3, KI4, KL1, LPS, NEKF2, NELP2 & NELP3.

    COMPATIBILITY:

    *Modems do not need to be matched up with firmware like it's done with ROMs and Kernels. For example, a KI4 modem can be used with a KL1 ROM and the other way round. The only thing you need to pay attention to is what model your SGS2 is. 9100 and 9100 modems are compatible across both models. However, 9100 model and US variants are not cross compatible since the devices are designed to work on different bands.

    INSTALLATION:

    *I will add a flashing guide to post number 5 soon, hence why it says "Work in progress.....". For the moment I suggest asking Mr. Google to do a search for you. Bottom line is, for CWM packaged modems you need to be rooted and have a working CWM recovery (flash the CWM modem zip within recovery). For .TAR packages, all you need to do is flash it while your device is in Download Mode and connected to ODIN. The .TAR file should be selected in the PHONE field. Don't touch anything else.

    TESTING:

    *Usually just flashing and then using the same modem for 3-5 days should tell you how well it performs in your are and with you Mobile Network operator. Please remember that it takes around 2-3 days for a Modem to "settle" and achieve optimum performance, so don't judge how good a Modem is straight after flashing. That's where a lot of people fail when asserting battery drain.

    Signal strength and quality can be tested using this app:
    Network Signal Info

    Download and upload speeds on your network with a current Modem can be tested using this app:
    Speedtest.net

    RESULTS:

    Testing done by 3ayachi (Tunisia)

    Work in progress.....
