I know this because I called Sprint today. Tried to get them to waive activation fee, they would not again, but I was able to get them to cancel my preorder. So I ordered from Amazon instead (always been a fan w/ no hassle). Still saving $64.00 ($50 on phone & $16 on tax).

Why $16 on tax? Doesn't Sprint and Amazon both charge tax based on the MSRP of the phone? $550 @ Sprint and $730 @ Amazon.

Not on MSRP as far as I know. Amazon doesn't charge any sales tax (at least for me here in MD).

Sprint sales tax will vary depending on state. They had estimated sales tax for me of $16.00 but they did charge my card only for $211.98 (199.99 + 11.99 Sales Tax). Which is correct because Maryland sales tax is 6%.

Whereas Amazon charged my card for $149.99. Still saving $62. :)

I called Sprint and asked if they would waive the activation fee. They said yes and threw in free shipping. I did have to pay the full $199 but at least I got it done while sitting on my kester and it only took about 20 minutes.

C'MON EVO, get here

I called sprint two times and asked to waive the activation fee and both time they told me its impossible. So I said fine, cancel it and I'll go with Amazon. And they did.

The problem with all these large corporations customer service. Lack of consistency.

For some slightly better news, if you go with the Credit Union membership discount, that WILL waive ALL fees, activation AND upgrade fees. It will also save you 10% a month. You just need to be a part of ANY credit union, BECU, Alaksa ect...

Boy do I hope this info is correct! I do have the 10% CU discount, although on my bill it shows up as "employee discount". I am not an employee.

You are correct. If you are upgrading an existing line on Amazon you will still be charged the $36.00.

I just noticed that Wirefly Friends deal is no longer $119, but now $139.99.

However...a friends referral will get you $25 back after 90 days off the $149.99 price. Free fedex delivery, no sales tax. mods.. feel free to take out the link if this violates something on forum, not trying to tick anybody off...but here is my referral link.... . http://wirefly.tellapal.com/a/clk/8jCG6
$25 doesn't show up on the pricing but the site says you will get $25 back after 90 days. Be sure and clear cache first if you have visited them earlier.

This may be a stupid question but is there any difference between ordering from wirefly oppose to the Sprint website??

Likely if you're ordering right now, you will receive the phone about 2 or 3 weeks earlier through Sprint vs. Wirefly. If you had already ordered through Wirefly on Monday lets say, you'd likely see a difference of about 2 or 3 days in arrival.

also the cost difference. wirefly is $50 less and no tax (which is about $60 since its based on the msrp) and they waive activation fee for new lines I believe and have free shipping.

Well Sprint is offering free shipping too, so that is not a difference. But yes, the price is certainly a large difference! I was assuming he knew that.

And as for the tax thing, I know that California pays MSRP tax, but I don't think any other states do. My tax was about $20 (10% of actual cost paid). So that isn't a $60 difference for most, but it is still something.

I ordered through wirefly. And after seeing this thread, thought I would give it a shot.

I am a AAA member but for some reason, I think the rep entered "AA" employee discount. So I am getting 12% a month off, while AAA is 10% off. So first rep i asked her to waive the activation fee, and she said she couldn't. I was extremely nice about it.

Then I asked to be transferred to client services. When I got there, I asked him about renewal discount. He said that was over last year. He said "I see you have AAA discount", okay whatever I played along. Still he couldn't waive the activation fee (most likely cause its AA not AAA).

He said, "have i answered all your questions?". I said "yes, but i am still not happy". I didn't raise my voice, just a matter of fact. He put me on hold to talk to manager. Came back with you can trade your OG Evo for $70 buy back at Sprint store. I told him I wanted to keep it as back up, so no go there. Again he put me on hold, to talk to manager. He said, "he would waive the fee if i ordered the LTE with them. I said "unless you price match to 120$, no chance".

So he put me on hold one last time to talk to a "Specialist"

Finally, he came and said "I can do one last upgrade fee waiver". And after that they would put a block on credits in the future for fee waiver. I said, "sounds good to me". And I assured him I would give all "5s" on the feedback questionnaire, when Sprint calls me. I think he thought I was gonna give bad scores, so he tried his best to make me somewhat happy.

So he noted my account about waiving the "upgrade fee", and I have to call back to make sure they credit it to my account. We shall see if this actually happens.

One thing I was getting confused about was, he kept calling it "upgrade fee" not "activation fee". I confirmed the amount was $36. Weird, but hey another 36$ saved. :D

You could also call top tier CS. I called the regular CS line earlier today and was denied even after telling them I would just cancel and go to Best Buy he brought a manager on the manager said "we can't waive it so I suggest purchasing it at Best Buy"(Wow really). Called Top Tier CS and with no hassle the lady said she will waive the activation fee and follow up next week to make sure it wasn't added and if I have issues to call back and reference call today.

The number is: 1-866-727-0665

Just ask for account services once they answer

Thanks for the info! I called this number and asked for account services. I told them that I had chatted online at sprint.com with someone about cancelling my preorder because I found it cheaper and that they said I should call this number and ask about an activation fee waiver to offset the cost. She looked on my account and said she didn't see the activation, I told her I hadn't recieved the phone yet, and she said they would waive the fee and annotate my account. All I had to do was call back once it showed up on my bill to have it credited back.

She asked if I had any other issues, and I told her I was having to order a new phone because mine broke and she gave me a $25 credit on another line. :)

Also, I actually did chat with sprint.com about this and they directed me to a supervisor (in chat) who offered me a one time $20 instant credit as well.

Called Sprint account services and complained on the cheaper price and mumbled about the fact that my $150 credit really is useless as anyone getting a new line gets it for the same price. Well my b*tching got me a waived activation fee and $80 instant credit (already confirmed on my sprint account).

Add that to my Sero (changed to EVP since Evo 4G 2 yrs. ago) account, Sprint has taken care of me....

Now if I can only get my tracking number... Ordered online at 9:21 (EST) and they mentioned that most emails will be sent out today at 11PM (EST).. We'll see...

Did you have to convince them?

I'm going to be upgrading to the same plan but was out of luck when trying to get the fee waived. Even mentioned how SERO members are forced to upgrade through sprint when wirefly and Best Buy are offering much better promotions on the same product..

Maybe another representative will yield better results.

No. She said "let me look at your account and see if there will be an activation fee....... no I see the activation fee is waived with your plan"
