If you have SIM card lock (PIN) then you cannot add APN manual.
Like you said, you add APN and it would not appear in the APN list.
I have same problem with stock ROM and then when i disable SIM card lock i was able to add APN and get data connection.
Same thing is with CM9 or AOKP.

Its maybe problem with phone because phones primary network is CDMA.
im using phone in Croatia on GSM network.

Disable SIM lock, reboot phone and try adding APN.

That sounds like a great idea, but when I try to disable sim card lock, it tells me I need a password... I have no idea what that would be.

it ask you for your SIM card PIN code, when you get SIM card from operator you must get PIN and PUK code
Normally when you reboot phone, on startup does it ask you for code?

It does not ask me for a code on startup. But the sim lock box is checked in settings.

I am not the original purchaser of the phone, I bought it used and verizon-unlocked and it worked just fine in the stock rom. Super fast gsm data, and it held a connection like no phone ever before. Then I installed ICS and CM9, and can't get an APN to stick.

On another note - if canadian rogers users are telling me that they are having no issues with AOKP, maybe I just need to go to that for now. I assumed originally I would be losing a lot of fun options and tweake, but the AOKP screenshots of menus look pretty cool. If I "downgrade" to AOKP from CM9, what am I really missing out on?

If you install CM9 and then all your apps, settings, contacts, etc, and a new nightly comes out and you flash it, does it overwrite everything or does just the CM9 nightly overwrite itself and leave all your stuff alone?

As long as you don't wipe your data, you will retain everything. Flashing to a different ROM will leave all apps, contacts, text messages, pictures, etc. The only thing that will change is the system.

Holy crap - it worked!

I decided to "revert" back from CM9 to AOKP so that I could get my data working. To my surprise, I could not enter APNs in there either. I was pretty shocked.

I went here: http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1465297 and grabbed the "other" patch listed (I had tried the first one originally).

I went back into recovery and followed his instructions exactly. I installed CM9, wiped, mounted system, formatted system, installed the patch, and rebooted.

Three straight times I got no boot animation, just a blank backlit screen. So at this point I thought I had a brick. I went back into recovery and, with nothing to lose, flashed CM9 again.

This time it booted. I switched to GSM mode, chose a carrier, and BOOM, all my APNs were already there. Within seconds I had 3G data service.

Hope this can be helpful to someone else.

I've got that many times with different roms, pulling the battery fixes it for me every time. I thought the same thing as you the first time it happend. Hope that info help someone out too. :)

facebook, if you haven't noticed in the permissions, has access to retrieve all of your texts, calls, etc, so it's a possibility that the facebook app has been sending your info, not 100% on that though

edit: just checked my FB data usage, i'm sitting on 112mb of data used lolol, i have 100% unlimited data so it won't affect me, just hilarious how much data it uses, might switch from FB back to friendcaster pro

Looks great

In spite of the worrying reports from some GSM users, I decided to try CM9. I flashed the Mar 16 version, wiped data and cache and booted into CM9. Right off, everything worked fine. For Data to work, I had to get to the APNs menu to enable the right APN for my carried - Tata DoCoMo. The network mode had a set of options - GSM/WCDMA was pre-selected and it worked; choosing 'GSM only' did not help.

It has been about 24 hours and everything looks and works great. Face unlock and video recording don't work ofcourse. I haven't tried Bluetooth yet. Time to change the signature again!

Maybe I misread but why do you get billed for the data?

My plan includes 500MB of data usage and under that I get Social Networking for unlimited (basically Twitter & Facebook access is 'free' and doesn't count towards my data usage) but for some reason it got included in my usage. Oh well I just decided to restrict its access.

Check your sync settings as well. If it's set to sync every 15 minutes and cache images (can FB do this, I forget), then your usage could be very high. You can limit it though just by scrolling down, as it seems you have found.

If your phone is set to sync contacts with Facebook (under settings -> accounts & sync) it will pull all their status updates to your contact list. No idea how often this happens but with mine turned off I only had 2MB of background data use for the FB app. I just turned it on to see how much that goes up.

It was set to every 60mins

Ya I know it'll use some background for contacts and what not but I don't think this was the problem. About 150MB happened within 1 day and I didn't even use Facebook that day it pulled the data. Either way I'm not over my cap so it's all good but I'll be keeping an eye on it from now on that's for sure! :p

I'm booting up a new build for camera testing as we speak.

It's been a long time coming just to get to this point.

KNOWN ISSUES (as of 2012-01-12 build):
    • GSM users have reported phone still FCs quite a bit. I have a solution for this but it's a work in progress and takes a long time to do (porting Motorola World Phone code to ICS from Gingerbread). I am sorry for the hassle, but usually a wipe cache/dalvik cache will reset your connection.
    • Mute button on calls doesn't work
    • Camera doesn't work
    • Codecs which reference the /dev/ion driver don't work (including audio only for Netflix)
    • Backlighting for keyboard and capacitive keys only works with "Auto Brightness" set: see here for custom settings http://xdaforums.com/showpost.php?p=22637417&postcount=957
    • [NEEDS TESTING]Leaving Bluetooth on but not paired causes all audio to stop working on the phone. If you turn off Bluetooth then audio comes back.
    • [NEEDS TESTING]Bluetooth in general needs an overhaul. It does work to make phone calls, but that's about it.

    HANDY WORK AROUNDS:
    • For users experiencing high battery drain: goto "Settings" -> "Sounds" and uncheck "Touch sounds" and "Screen lock sound".
    • For GSM/WCDMA users who have lost 3G: enter *#*#4636#*#* into the dialer. Then goto "Phone Information". Near the bottom of that screen there's a drop down of network preference. For GSM-ONLY use GSM (PRL). Exit that screen and reboot the phone. Wipe cache/dalvik cache if you still don't get 3G back or have many phone FCs.
    • For GSM/WCDMA users who seem to boot up into an phone FC loop. Try removing "GlobalNWSwitch.apk" from /system/app folder. Is probably only useful for DualRadio models.
    • For a Gallery replacement use "QuickPic" from the market

FYI: Fixed the links in the OP to account for the new home of files.rombot.org where the files are located.

Also, support for this build is mostly done as we are moving to the new KEXEC alpha. But I wanted to make sure that the links were still valid.

Alright, sounds good. I will flash it when I get a chance. Thanks!

In this case, I took the updated files from the official soak test (906) and pushed them up so that they are used in the D3 cm/aokp builds.

Jhiza has the right of it, sometimes you'll see minor improvements here and there. Will need some input as to how much of a difference the new binaries make.

NOTE: CM9 has added back in the theme system, and I merged that into last nights build as well. And updated the CM release tools -- flashing zips now tries to keep your gapps in place. So from the 5/7 build on, if you have gapps installed and don't need to update them, then don't re-flash gapps after flashing the rom.zip. THIS IS ONLY A CHANGE FOR CM9.
