So, now that a few of us are finally getting our hands on the devices, let’s get some proper user benchmarks going! Mine should be with me in the next couple of days, but hopefully there’s enough people with phones now to get a good set! Let's see how the snapdragon 800 with pure android compares with the rest of the pack...

EDIT - Let's get a leader board going! :D I'll only post scores backed up with a screenshot showing the score. (Yes, I know, benchmarks don't really mean that much...)

Geekbench 2 - 4,961 - Simms22
Antutu - 40,723 - Simms22
Quadrant - 30,497 - Simms22
Linpack - 1259 - Simms22
Sunspider - 536 ms (Chrome (/beta)) - Simms22
3DMark Ice Storm Unlimited - 17902 - Newbieandroid

Some suggestions to get going (obviously there will be more that people can run if they want) :)

  • Sunspider
  • GFXBench (GLBenchmark 2.7)
  • 3D Mark
  • Google Octane
  • Mozilla Kraken
  • BrowserMark (2.0)
  • Vellamo
  • Linpack
  • Quadrant
  • AntuTu

Also it would be nice to see what the read/write speeds of the internal memory are like, so if anyone could post those up it would be great!

Try changing the compiler from Dalvik to ART and see if you get better results (it's under Developer Options).

So you want to tell me that clocking higher like 10-15% S600 should match S800? sorry but but that's just not possible there is an issue with the N5 being tested imho, the S800 should destroy the S600 no matter of the cheats, they are equal on the graphs.

Not sure what your on about... The note 3 has a snapdragon 800 not a 600

Edit: Oh if you mean the s4, I believe that's the octa core variant not snapdragon. Don't quote me though

And let's not forget, Samsung and others put loads of optimisations for benchmarks that increase the scores, if you had the n4 I'm sure you would have heard of the dalvik patches from the s4? They increased benchmarks from 17-18 to 21k without any oc.

Back on default settings. Normal antutu, test done after reboot.

surprised people in this forum actually still believe in benchmarks.

the sammy phones as well as other brands cheat.

motorola and google do not 'tweak' to get better benchmarks.

Google crap always comes without dalvik and krait optimisations. Those scores were totally expected.

Give xda devs some time and they will sort it.

Not really impressive, throttling? :(
Please for the love of God, forget AnTuTu! It's easy to rig and it measures I/O, memory etc., and inconsistently, therefore it doesn't give usable individual benchmarks.

Nexus 5 owners need to run AnandTech's test apps, 3D Mark, Sunspider, Browsermark, Vellamo, Basemark, GLBenchmark, Epic Citadel and Google Octane.

Bro, just to be clear here. I'm not saying anything bad for the N5, i'm huge fan of it, just the results was a bit off. Thanks for the explanation. Also I/O i dont get how is that affected, its S800, how come I/O can be average?

Sorry Android/mobile noob here :D

I've got 346ms in JSBench test on G2. Is any browser on Nexus 5 that gives faster score? Less is better

aosp browser is the fastest in benchmarks.

it's nothing magic... but we are soooo close to it:)) and benchmarking is not about winning a prize or something it's all about the tweaks ;)

there are different reasons for benchmarking, but what we are doing here is purely for fun and the enjoyment of our devices. nothing more :)
    6
Samsung is not cheating by having there cpu's and gpu's to run at max performance and clock.. Neither of them are being overclocked which is cheating or tweaked in any other way where there is a increase and clock speeds on the device. FYI Aosp roms always score lower. Even if you take a device that has TW or Sense 5 its going to score A LOT lower

    Not true.

Samsung actually overclocked in their exynos versions.

The GPU of the Octa S4 was actually overclocked to a higher frequency. (532mhz if my memory serves me right)

As for the rest, its still cheating running all cores at Max as its not the speed of the device that the user see's. (If it doesn't run like this to the user - its not accurate when comparing to other devices that DONT cheat)

all these benchmark apps are pure BS & a complete waste of time.

No chipset is greater than the Snapdragon 800 & no OS is lighter or smoother than stock Android.

N5 has both - and that is all that people need to know for performance.
