Just picked up my T-mobile US phone today.
Unlocked the bootloader with HTCDev website
Rooted it with Paul's Superboot
Installed a new recovery using Paul's Interm CWM
T-mobile US people don't worry about "bricking" your phones it's actually pretty hard to do.
maybe your right.. But why are you unlocking bootloader if your not gunna root the device lol
rom manager wont work because rom manager didnt install cwm for you..
you have an unofficial version, dont worry about it, you can still flash roms and make backups, just boot into recovery manually, or use an app like quickboot (free) to save the hassle
i can't dl the supersu the like dose not work in ie chrome or ff. help that is all i need to get my root on.Just a quick step by step tutorial to get a Custom ROM working on your One S.
Step 1: Unlock
- Register at htcdev.com
- Unlock your bootloader here by following the command's
- If the One S is not in the list, just pick "All Other Supported Models"
Step 2: Recovery
- Download the Android SDK
- Download the Interim CWM Touch Recovery of Paul or Official CWM of koush (HTC One S)
(Thanks Paul/koush for the Recovery!)
- Place the CWM File where the fastboot.exe is (Downloaded with the SDK)
- Now open the cmd and navigate to the folder where the CWM File is located
- Now type:
fastboot flash recovery name_of_the_recovery.img
For Paul's:
fastboot flash recovery r2-modaco-recovery-clockwork-touch-ville.img
Step 3: Root
Make sure you are on the stock kernel!
- Now root your phone with SuperSU by Chainfire, thanks a lot!
- Download SuperSU
- Flash it with the Recovery:
- Power off your device and then hold the VOL DOWN + Power to boot into the Bootloader
- Navigate with VOL and Power to Recovery
- Now flash the .zip:
- install zip from sdcard
- choose zip from sdcard
- select the CWN-SuperSU-v0.87.zip file and flash it
- Reboot now
Now you are able to flash any Custom ROM.

try adb use the command ''adb reboot recovery'' or if you have root, download quickboot (its free)Hello
I have unlock the bootloader and then Install the recovery, Twice Okay on CMD windows.
then I try to go to recovery but it doesn't work :/ I don't know why, I always go back to the desktop .
Fastboot is uncheck and USB debugging is checked.
Maybe the recovery is not well installed :/
Then I have tried to install it with noob tool and it succeed but no way to access to recovery :/
here is my video:
thanks for your help.
Flow.
try adb use the command ''adb reboot recovery'' or if you have root, download quickboot (its free)
if neither of those work, then re flash the recovery or try an alternative.. Sometimes the button combo can be tricky..
what exactly are you typing at command prompt
you need to have usb debugging checked on phone
you need the recovery image in same folder as your fastboot.exe/adb files
you need to cd to that directory/folder
you need the recovery image in that same folder
you need to be booted into bootloader with fastboot highlighted
and phone plugged into pc
you have to type fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
where recovery.img is the exact name of the recovery image image you put in the folder where fastboot/adb is--usually tools or platform tools of your sdk
you can check the exact name by right clicking the recovery image in the folder and going to properties. I usually just copy and paste that into the command line
hm.. first time unlocking, rooting etc using a mac and well, it could be going smoother.
Anyways.
Ive unlocked the bootloader but when i try to flash the cwm recovery I'm getting the message;
unknown partition 'recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.3.1-ville.img'
error: cannot determine image filename for 'recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.3.1-ville.img'
What am i doing wrong? The file is in the same folder as fastboot.exe and I've tried renaming it to a shorter filename (thinking I were typing it wrong).
Ive tried both versions of cwm with the same result.
Im using this command;
./fastboot flash XXXXXXX.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
