I also received that error. I believe its because I had modified the system. I had a backup from gingerbread that I restored then flashed 4.0.3 update and then 4.0.4 update. Worked perfectly. If you want to keep root don't forget to flash su zip before you reboot.

Great finally 4.0.4 code. What worries me though is the paragraph saying that the proprietary drivers for CDMA/LTE devices have not been tested on AOSP.....This means people waiting for OTA from Sprint/Verizon or any CDMA operator are going to wait again...

Yeah, sadly. Shame that Google became a operator *****.

Still doesn't work on my side.

Code:
--Install /sdcard ...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
Installing update...
Verifying current system...
assert failed: apply_patch_space(15916988)
E:Error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.

I did a full wipe on my Nexus S, applied the full ICS 4.0.3 firmware before applying the update, still getting the Status 7 error message.

Model: GT-I9020T

i do this step : 2.3.6(Android 2.3.6/GRK39F/XXKF1 Radio/KA3 Bootloader) to 4.0.3 incremental update (http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1445635) unlock bootloader and flash recovery -> and update to 4.0.4 without error !!

this worked for me...
I came from Stock 4.0.3 (no mods or anything) with unlocked bootloader, got error 7, tried this, i flashed cwm 5 or something, "apply zip from sdcard" -> chosed the update.zip... and atm it is patching and installing.

Lets see if it worked well

It seems that its not possible to update via stock bootloader. Anyone please confirm if you have successfully update via stock bootloader?

Sent from my Nexus S using XDA

I updated my old Nexus S from 4.0.3 to 4.0.4 without a hitch. I can barely notice the difference from 4.0.3 to 4.0.4, any ideas?

Also, am I supposed to lose my root if I flashed the update from google's server?

PS: It's funny that my old Nexus S got to 4.0.4 first than my Galaxy Nexus which is still running at 4.0.2.

AT&T i9020a, still nothing. AT&T is GSM, no? I haven't heard a single word about AT&T Nexus S users receiving an OTA update.

Can anyone confirm or deny receipt of the update on AT&T Nexus S (i9020a)?
