Just so everyone is aware, it appears that despite Mr. Highway creating access to this thread from bot the Att & Tmo general sections, they have become two separate threads. If you post in one, your post is not viewable in the other. Since the majority of the activity seems to be happening in the Att thread, I propose that users just stick to that thread for now, until Mr.Highway comes up with an adequate solution as I'm sure he will. I'm sorry for any inconvenience this may be causing, but the recent change in the forums have posed some problems for the moderators to sort out. I will make a post when the problem is corrected.

I don't know why but maybe people are formatting the system and data before switching to a CM bassed rom, then try to install another rom or nandroid back to stock rom...remember im not talking about wiping data and cache, but formating under the mounts and storage menu. I cant say really but just a thought

can someone list the items that belong in EFS and IMEI folder?

i lost mine using a JB rom's odex app....

i think i lost files...because the NV item write to my phone with the new apps just doesnt write to my phone...yet it can pull from it...@_@

so im guessing its cause there is no file to over-write??

thanks!

Heads up.. TWRP is official for our device. Used goo manager to install. You can find the post in the development section. Wasn't sure if this has been mentioned. Waiting for a ROM update before I flash but I think this is the best way to discover if cwm is the cause.

sent from the next best thing

So, just to clarify that TWRP is official for "our device" ....This thread was split up and I think you are meaning that it is out for AT&T's GS3 correct?
And it is NOT out for TMO's GS3 (T999) if I understand this correctly.

I hope that it becomes available for T-Mobile's Galaxy S3.

As for the original post here, I am uncertain if this has bee fixed for the TMO and/or the AT&T versions....Can anyone clarify this?

Wow! Id say you've got quite a bit of catching up to do!
TWRP was released for us over 3 months ago and has since been updated 3 times. Latest version TWRP is 2.3.1.0, latest cwm is 6.0.1.2.
Once rooted install rom or goo manager and use that to install the latest cwm or twrp recovery, respectively.

As for the imei issue, I doubt it'll ever truly be fixed, as I'm pretty sure no one has ever really figured out what causes it. It has been made irrelevant by peoplearmy and geek who have given us ways to backup and restore.

The forums were split a few months ago. If you have a T999 model, everything you need is here. Do NOT go flashing anything you find in other variants forums, especially the international versions. You could brick your phone.

Good luck!

TMO SGS3 - Lost IMEI

Back when I got my phone, in September I immediately rooted it and debloated it. Once a CM10 Milestone build dropped, I flashed it. All was well until I went from the CM10 Milestone build back to my stock backup created with CWM, the reason I rolled back was video chat was not working..it was locking up my phone. That's another story in itself which I assume has been fixed in CM10 as it was back in September and this was the first Milestone build pushed. After I flashed back to stock root I lost 4g/3g service, and the phone turned into JUST A PHONE unless I had wifi.I tried factory resetting and even reverting back to the stock ICS firmware. I wound up bringing my phone back to a local retailer who replaced it under warranty as I was very short into my 14 day return period.

I've found the threads and have backed up my IMEI and done a full backup of my phone, is it safe to flash roms now? I'm on the fence as I don't want to risk losing my IMEI again and there doesn't seem to be enough information out there yet to know why / how this happens.

UPDATE 7/30/2012: IT APPEARS THAT USER "GEEK", WHO PLAYED A LARGE ROLE IN PEOPLEARMYS IMEI SOLUTION, HAS NOW WRAPPED UP THE BACK UP PROCESS INTO A VERY SIMPLE AND EASY TO USE TOOL THAT ONLY REQUIRES FREEWARE! BELOW YOU WILL FIND A LINK TO GEEKS TOOL & EASY TO FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS ACCOMPANIED BY A VIDEO DEMONSTRATION! PEOPLEARMY HAS SUGGESTED THAT HE BELIEVES IT WOULD BE BEST IF YOU WERE TO CREATE THE BACK UP USING BOTH METHODS. PLEASE BE SURE TO THANK GEEK WHEN YOU VISIT HIS "IMEI TOOL THREAD", AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, IF YOU ARE IN A POSITION TO DONATE THEN PLEASE DO. WITHOUT THE HARD WORK OF BOTH OF THESE USERS, MANY PEOPLE WOULD HAVE LOST THEIR VERY EXPENSIVE GS3'S!

Thanks bro! Just had some fathering to do, but the deed is done.

Very interesting...it did not appear to hurt my phone at all. The good news is this...it brought my serial # back! The bad news is my IMEI is still borked.

Hey Zonly1, I've been out of town all day on a very unexpected last minute trip, so I had alot of thread to catch up on but I just want to say THANK YOU so much for all the testing you've been doing here & for putting your trust in these guys that have been using their extensive knowledge & know how to search for the solution to our problem! I ran out of thanks thanking you all over the place, lol, because your really making alot of progress on some of the theories that have been kicked around. I would gladly donate what I can to help alleviate any costs if any of this somehow voids your warranty with Samsung, and I hope others would do the same:). I'm keeping my fingers crossed that all will be well, and that your testing will provide us all with a solution and we'll be able to move on to flashing roms & unlocking the true potential of this device without any worries!
