A note:
In Linux (or MAC I suppose aswell) you need to enter
./fastboot -i 0x0fce flash system play-modded.img

:) BTW. It did NOT erase installed apps on my phone :)

Yep confirmed working just used root explorer to delete bloatware :)

Hehe, well -> Test your image, but i think it will not work if you made it like for other Androids!
The problem is that you cannot CREATE (extract works well) images with tools like mkfs.yaffs etc. for SE phones ;)
We need a trick here to get then ready!
But if you manage it another way! Congrats :p

mine would of failed in that case, I built it back with standard tools.
so close yet so very far..

@Bin4ry nice work mate :D

Will you be looking for other ways to root the play that doesn't involve flashing with fastboot commands nor unlocking the bootloader. Just a simple app with one click to root the play. It's not that i don't know my way around flashing/modding, been doing this on my last three mobiles. I just don't wan't to mess with my play nor install any custom roms (getting it next week). I just wan't root to change small things and have more access :)

Well i hope you do look for other ways :D
