The silver "aluminum" sticker needs to be placed correctly. Its a mandatory piece

emmmm well i tried injeting a bit of voltage with diode test on the meter to the test points in the charger, that doesnt fool it... (reciever attached to an old battery and a voltmeter, no increase etc)

Mandatory, as in something found in the kitchen will do if an idiot peeled them off and threw them away......

off to look for replacement 'foil' ... ghods what a trick......

better also order another back on monday...

Copper Tape

I've now de-soldered the wires and replaced them with copper tape, the copper tape I got from ebay for £1.85 which I received next day. There is now no bulge on my phone which was there from the wires. I folded the ends to make a flap which sits against the charging pins.

Sorry to give you the bad news. Trial and error

well tinfoil failed, tablets in a foil backed blister pack failed, a potato chips shiny plastic pack thing failed, i guess its a specific resonance, bit like they use to detect clothing being stolen from stores with security tags. maybe i need to find a clothing store and find a tag lol

oh well, another back on order, maybe another base too...

Multiple users have reported that the US version doesn't recognise the charger yet, I'm assuming that at a later stage a fw upgrade should hopefully enable it.
I did the mod today, a beautiful how to BTW. Unfortunately my T-Mobile Note II will not read the voltage. Bummer $30 wasted. Lets hope T-mobile or someone can make a software fix for this... I can't understand why they would put the pins on the t-mobile version if it didn't have the firmware to support it. Oh well.

Just about to do this, I bought a charger, a pre back, and 2 pixie backs....

I found the pixie backs to have much stronger glue than the pre, buy the pre!

I have sat all three coils on my charger, nothing, no voltage.....

I have ripped the bottom off the charger, note to others, it has three screws under the sticky base.

theres power on the board, but i noticed two thick wires I guess go to the charging TX coil, and two thin wires, is there another coil in the charger to detect anything to initiate a charge? does it need to see something from the phone back? ie a magnet, I didnt keep the backs or the 4 metal washers, just the RX coils and controller chips.

not sure what to do next, will prod some more with the meter.

I got some pixi cases too to do this for my Note II and my girlfriends GSIII. Which contact is the positive and negative for the pixi?

I think its the same top positive and bottom negative but its not in line with the charging pin on the Note II but it is in line with the SIII, so when you rotate the module around to meet the Note II charging pins the polarity is reversed which you will have to ensure you correct before hooking it up (I hope I make sense).

But please double check with your meter before going ahead just to confirm.

Remember to keep the silver foil sticker intact when you take it out of the pixi casing and place it back over the coil.
Also could you please take a picture of the pixi module and upload it on here.
Good luck with the mod and let us know how you get on.

Its annoying about the US Tmobile Note, when the official wireless charging gets released there will be some angry customers if they don't enable it at a later stage. You have the hardware so keep the mod you've done because its a matter of time before it should get enabled or you could always change your kernel to one which confirms the wireless charging is working.

I'm going to post a notice about the US tmobile note II on the first page, to prevent anyone else doing the mod and finding it not working.

Thank you

Im getting the tape and covering as well so once that gets here I will post pictures. I should have read this whole forum though because I just saw it wont work on the T-Mobile Note II lol hopefully it at least works on the GSIII and a dev can get it working on the Note II

Ok I have opened the charger and taken it all apart, theres two coils in the charger, a central one of about 12 turns of thick wire, guessing this is the charge TX coil.

The 2nd coil is about the size of the outer of the receiving coil, I guess this is the one used to detect the phone/silver foil that i dont have...

TP5 is the test point that seems to vary if metal objects are brought near the face of the charger, but its a versmall change from about 0.4v to 0.35v etc

I tried injecting a few extra millivolts into it and also pulling it down to initiate a charge but nothing... guess i'm waiting for the new back with magic foil...

edit: ****

I found some of the magic shiy foil in the bin!
t did not help to start a charge, but it help me find one thing which lead to it, with the reciever coil sat on the base, and the foil taped on, no charge, but using diode test on the meter to inject a bit of voltage into TP6(preferred) and TP7 starts a charge if theres a weak signal from the foil, and it stays charging, so, may be a bit of a useful titbit of info.

Also I found i got best voltage out from the coil is if its not central, I found the best position was with the centre of the coil positioned above the first arch of the M in palm, I guess other of the 90'deg positions may work the same, but the M is an easy landmark.

Are you other people with these just using a USB/data micro usb from the pc or a real palm charger into the base, just wandering if it uses more pins on the usb to signify its a real palm charger etc like some phones do for higher current charging.

Finally finished my mod today. The most difficult and time consuming part of this mod is the preparation and etching of the flexible PCB.

Things needed:
1. copper clad laminate (pyralux) - flexible PCB
2. Copper tape
3. ferric chloride solution - for etching
4. Alcohol or acetone - to clean up pcb after etching
5. Water proof/permanent marker pen, tweezer, nipper/scissor, mobile phone pry tools, soldering iron, bla blah

3. (will update later - I'm late for work now..........)

This is amazing, by far the best mod :good:

I've replaced the wires with copper tape. Now I have seen this I am thinking v3 might be happening soon, just need get the materials together and work out how to do this.

Interesting finds you got there,
they don't recommend plugging the cable in to the computer. I am using my original SII charger which fits perfectly in the touchstone, so i'm assuming you use any charger not just the Palm charger.

Have you already ordered the flexible PCB? If not, pm me your address and I'll send you a strip ready to make around x3 of the Z- shaped flex pcb...

I see some people were talking about my kernel. The wpc increase wasn't intentional at the beginning. But I've yet to hear from somebody testing it, so I know if I just keep the changes or revert them.

I was also thinking of flash8ng your rom but it would help if you remove the voltage mod by default and make it into a flashable zip (add on) instead. Cheers

Sprint Note II (has no slots for charging pins, but confirmed working when taking the middle housing cover off and finding the wireless charging contacts underneath)
Have a look at this http://xdaforums.com/showpost.php?p=33833217&postcount=240

Canadian i317M Note II (Bell Canada)
    Confirmed not working on the:
US TMobile Note II SGH-T889 (Has the charging pins for wireless charging)
    Please see http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1978276

vinas1 has just released some instructions on how you could get the wireless charging mod to work on the Tmobile Note II version.
    Check it out here
Please do this mod at your own risk

Big Thanks to m055 who has posted a video guide on Youtube check it out from here

I've decided to go ahead and do the mod for the wireless charging as i've seen a few threads tempting me.
    What you need is:
    • Palm Touchstone £5.24 (Amazon UK)
    • Palm Pre Touchstone case £3.49 (eBay)
    • Electrical Tape
    • Copper foil tape [thanks rj3005]
    • Solder Iron & Solder
You can also use thin wire to do this mod if you don't have copper tape handy.
This all cost me under £10 excluding the solder iron. You might find it cheaper shopping around.
    1. I first took the induction coil out of the Palm Pre case carefully.
!!! Its very important that you peel the silver sticker off carefully and not cause any sharp bends which could cause cracking. You need this silver sticker to stay intact for the whole operation to work!!!
The top pin is positive and bottom is negative as shown in the picture, this is also the same on the note the top pin being positive and bottom negative.

    2. I placed the coil in the center of the Note battery case I then placed the silver sticker over the coil as it was on the Palm Pre (this is very important that you place the silver sticker back over the coil as without it the induction doesn't seem to work.)

    3. I then checked where the charging pins on the note meets with the case and marked it with a pen to indicate where the wires copper tape would have to be.

    4. Using copper tape, I stuck two tracks going from the charging circuit to the charging pins positions, make sure you leave enough copper track to fold the tape twice over itself to create a spring going against the charging pins.

    5. Solder the track to the charging circuit by tinning the end of the copper track and soldering it to charging circuit contacts, then cut electrical tape to size and place it over the copper track. After place the original insulation cover over the coil with the magnets.

    6. I placed the battery cover over the Palm Touchstone dock and checked the voltage from the copper track with a meter (should be 5.6V any less means you have left the silver foil off or not placed it correctly) to check everything is working and the polarity is correct.

    7. I placed it back on my phone and there you go, I now have wireless charging.

NFC works and magnets do not affect the phone testing the S Pen and Compass seem to operate all good.

    List of successful mods completed:
There is probably more successful mods then whats on this list, please post about your success and I will add it to here but also post about if you are having trouble getting this working and I'm sure somebody will be able to advice and help you here!

German tutorial with good pictures of the Pre and Pixi casing(thanks Frank2)
Sorry if its a bit brief, I will try and write it up a bit better.

    EDIT: Measurements I've taken
    Output Voltage 4.8V (5.6V disconnected)
    Output Amps 0.42A

EDIT: Added pictures of the Galaxy Note on the dock in portrait & landscape

EDIT: I've now swapped my wires over to copper tape

EDIT: nm8 has just posted a solder less alternative [MOD] Note 2 Wireless Charging [Origami style][No Solder]

You can use the Palm Pixi case to do this mod but its very important that you double check the polarity to the charging pins. Do not connect straight to the charging pins until your sure which pins are positive and negative, you could cause damage to your phone Info Regarding the Pixi

EDIT: http://xdaforums.com/showpost.php?p=33861324&postcount=77 QI Wireless Charging Mod

My GF has a Note 2 from US Cellular.

Popped off the battery cover and right off the bat you can tell its different from the international version because it lacks the two charging points......but I wondered if they were under the plastic back plate but just not visible.....so she dove in and tore it apart.

Used a disassembly video we found on YouTube....so I wont bother with the "unscrew this" - "pry here" crap.

This is what you see once you get it apart.

    20121107_194130.jpg

See them two little spots....yep, thats what your looking for.

Now I gotta "modify" read "hack the **** out of" the back cover so you can access those little points with the phone reassembled......so I used a dremel to hog out the back plate.

    20121107_194135.jpg

Stick all the Palm crap on the original battery door......see those little fingers are going to fit thru the hole and contact the charging points on the circuit board.

    20121107_194407.jpg

    .......and success. WIRELESS CHARGING

Thanks for this, I was in the market for a dock when I stumble upon you're post, I don't need a dock for anything other than charging plus the viewing angle is perfect for me, so it was a no brainer.

I used the no solder option for my battery cover, there's a slight bulge but nothing too serious, I ordered some more parts to do my flip cover, that went really well, there's no bulge whatsoever, but for some reason the magnets aren't as strong, it holds but not as well.

For anyone who is having issues I have posted a guide on YouTube

    hope it helps.

But using the two terminals to the left of the battery is fine correct? Like the OP did?

Yes those terminals next to the battery are fine and safe to use.

but some forum members have been asking whether its safe to connect the induction coil directly to the battery, this is not safe. They have been asking because phones like the Galaxy Note 1 have not got Wireless Charging terminals.

I hope this clears it up for you.
