I’ve just made a new HoFo Ion ROM, which is based on nk02’s modification’s. I originally posted this ROM on Howard Forums, but I thought some of you here might like it.

- replaced the WLAN driver to make the WiFi functional
- added all of the Hero ringtones
- added Exchange support
- added Quick Office
- added PDF viewer
- overclocked to 528 MHz (max)
- removed G1 boot logo, and replaced it with the HTC Magic logo

- updated Google Maps to 3.1.2

- updated dalvikvm from Donut (backported by cyanogen)
- both keyboards are now inlcuded: HTC & Google (long press in text entry field to get Input Method option)
- version ID is now in the menu: Settings –> About phone –> Mod version

'P' in the menu, its function is that it waits for a while before dialing a num for eg:

727p362

first it dials 727 then waits for like 5 sec and the dials 362, it can be added as many number of times to increase time in between the dialing of numbers!

i use it for my calling card ie call the num and the after a while enter my pin automatically instead of dialing the pin every single time

EDIT: JUST FOUND OUT THAT "," (comma) DOES THE SAME JOB!

Which version of Chinese Language Input can I use?
I installed the one from your HoFo Official ROM thread but it causes my phone unable to boot.

Thanks.

ve SuperUser functionality
- added HSDPA icon

I didn't try out your rom yet, but did you just replace the 3G icon with a H icon?
Please be aware that HSDPA isn't just 3G. You can be in an area without HSDPA but still on 3G. The H should only be displayed in case the network is HSDPA capabale.

@Hotweiss

Hi there,
I stumbled over your HOFO Rom (not this Ion one) and basically it is exactly what I've been looking for. It is fast and reliable. JacHeroski is nice but after sometime the shortcommings become annoying.

To avoid annoying you, I try to get now to the point. I tried to add Swiss German Input to your ROM, however failed (as with many things on android  so far). Then I found out, that locales must be compiled and cannot be added.

Now would you mind posting a WWE edition of your ROM (I don't mind setting APN's manually).

Thank you very much in advance

@ the rest of non-Canadian 32A owners looking for a decent ROM:
support my bid :)

Regards
Frank

This ROM is perfect. It's very similar to cyanogen's ROM for the Dream/32B and is EXTREMELY fast on my Rogers 32A.

Thanks hotweiss, it's like you read my mind on every aspect of this (including using the Google dialer and keyboard).

Amon_RA, or hotweiss, have you looked at eachothers roms? (Amon_RA_1.1.0 and HOFO 1.03)

I've used both and from an end user perspective they both seem quite snappy, both appear to have significant kernel improvements and optimisations from more recent android drops, etc. Essentially they seem to be targetted similarely.

At first glance the deltas that catch my eye would be:
*Amon_RA first, HOFO second
google maps: 1.1.0, 1.2.0
office apps: SAME
Launcher: cyanogen 5/screen, 3 screen standard
Keyboard: HTC, HTC&GOOGLE
Dalvik: cupcake, donut (not sure on this)
Radio: XXXX, rogers

Additional Points of interest:
Amon_RA:
- Created odex files for all apk files in /system/app
- Stripped all apk files in /system/app from dex files
- many binaries from From JFv1.51, the benefit of which are primarily debugging/console application support/busybox etc?

HOFO:
- Other stuff that may be in the base nk02’s lite version that I have missed

That is a very high level and naive comparison, anything else that I should look at to help me decide which ROM to stick with?

Cheers,
Frank

As far as I know, the Ion ROM has one icon for 3G and 3.5G service. Since most of the Rogers network is 3.5G now, I decided to use the HSDPA icon.

Battery life. The Rogers ROM has the ability to turn off always-on mobile. Turning off this option increases the battery life substantially. In addition, the Rogers ROM has the HTC Exchange app which supports calendar and contacts.

Ah so for exchange I should switch back to the normal HoFo rom, and not use this ION rom? As I only see the 'work email' for exchange mail in the 1.03 HoFo Ion rom.

Just wanted to let you guys know that this rom (The HoFo Ion ROM [1.03] 32a)
Works really good on my HTC Magic (HTC branded bought at tre.se in sweden)
The only thing im missing is the swedish dictionary. But I solved that by installing the Scandinavian keyboard found on the market.
