Anyone care to give me a hand? I have a ZT180 running 101020, and I only have access to a laptop running Windows 7 64 bit. Is there any way I can flash a new ROM? I'd love to use it more, but it's just painful to use with the constant force closes, and the fact that the screen never fully turns off.

Am I SOL?

Are these flash image files laid out in a standard format or are they in a format / layout unique to the ZT-180?

Yes, the zImages are for the v1 (update of 0324). If you go to Dbank, it shows a new file (no _qimei anymore). The only difference I saw was the zImages, so only uploaded them. Think someone reported it's only a fix for the calibration issue.

The 0324 ROM seems to work ok for me, better than the 0120, just couldn't get the Youtube update from market to work, so went back to the stock one, but it plays in HQ (if you select that option) and full screen (status bar autocloses) so it's fine for me. Just wonder why the Youtube 2.1.6 won't work on this ROM? Also, some pictures seem to have a blue washed out look, but not all of them.

Hi,
I am just not sure how should I reflash with the "0328 zImage"?
I think I need to copy the "0328 zImage" to the "0324 ZT-update" folder and as usual: pressing the left side of function key at the same time when I turning on the tablet. Am I right?
Will I lost any datas or apps?

Something other... of course I broke the lan connector yesterday. Grrr! I will try to glue it, pffff!
Wifi works a bit hectic but I can say all right now, surprisingly the lan by cable was never worked for me.

My last issue is that my screen's backlite is half-working.
The problem appears in the left upper area. Sometimes lights, sometimes dead, sometimes blinking.
If I screwing or pushing the whole case then the lights come back or fully goes away at that area.
I think (or hope) it is not lost because sometimes works.
What should I check or fix or repair?

Yes, you can flash 20110324 without the need to use Windows (except to copy the files) just from the micro-SD card.

The wiki says I need 1220 or later. I tried following the instructions but my tablet just boots straight to android. I dont think I can flash through this method, or maybe I' missing something...

Are there any workarounds for windows 7 64 bit users yet?

Oops. My bad, you wrote "1020" and I read "0120". In that case you need to use the flash tool. If you cannot do it from 64 bit and have no access to some 32 bit machine then may be you can install a 32 bit system on a VirtualBox virtual machine and try from there.

As an update, I managed to locate a 32 bit Vista machine.

I rebooted the tablet in flash mode, then went to install the secbulk driver...

Vista crashed while installing the driver, and now BSOD's on reboot. Not sure if I'll be able to fix it, my co worker is pretty pissed =|

Hope you guys can help,

I've got a 7" version of the tablet with the camera. It's running 2.2 and the device refuses to run the usb in debug mode. It keeps mounting as a media device. This is in windows and Linux.
The "USB debugging" check box seems to do nothing, is this a known bug????

Thanks. :)

I have successfully flashed two tablets with the 0324 release - using the 0328 Zimage update to replace original from 0324 without any issues or adverse affects.

One with the 1024 x 576 and one with the 1024 x 600 resolutions.

Flashing the 0324 complete gave me calibration issues, and flashing the 0328 complete gave me other minor issues not related to calibration.

I have the most success with 0324 base files replacing the zimage from 0328

New version of ZT-180 Adhoc Switcher published:

v1.3 (30/03/2011)
- added the possibility to use the application even if one of the required files is not present, this is called the "just to try..." mode; with this mode the application should works on a few more devices, like the iMX515 tablet with Atheros module (thanks to Miguel Minglas for his help on testing)
- more adjusts to files permissions and ownership
- more changes to support unlinked busybox commands

Sounds like you have a mass storage kernel and not adb. Not sure if they were able to combine the two for the 7" tablets, they weren't with the original ZT-180 10". The solution for the origianl ZT-180 10" tablet we got was in a beta ROM with a certain ZT_Bx.boot file that allowed you choose either zImage (mass storage) or zImage_adb (adb enabled) on boot.

Can you wirelessly connect the tablet with adb? or the connect command doesn't find any devices connected?

Regards,
Interesting, I tried just updating the 0324 with the 0328 zImage and everything was running slowly for me, even after clearing the dalvik-cache and a few reboots. It was only after flashing all of 0328 that the tablet seemed stable.

Not sure if it's the files or a bad flash or multiple flashing which is what is really showing the improvements/stability we seem to see....
The 0324 (0328 Update) ROM MediaFire Download - http://www.mediafire.com/file/5ptkx5cn4rcv478/10inch_2GB+256MB_android_2.2.rar
gives me an Error on downloading. is there some other place where I can get it?

-Mark-
Haven't seen anyone post another download. You can always download the original from Dbank - http://dl.dbank.com/c0zdyskgso. Or maybe someone will provide an alternate download for you.....

This might interest ZT-180 owners.. I just asked Zenthink Dev about USB GPS \ USB Bluetooth support for the zt-180 2.2 v2 512mb. Not sure if he was tolding about V1..

His response was..

"The published version may not support usb gps(i'm not sure). The XDAer version not republish, because some problem havn't been solved yet.
so 20110312 version is just a preview version for flash. Bluetooth will be supported in future. just take some time..."

The device connects to wireless networks ok and has the development options in the settings but they just don't work, adb can not see it and the OS just mounts it as a media storage Device. Sounds like I need to do some more poking around. Thanks for the explanation of why it may not be working. I had assumed this mode was in all android devices by default.

I also have one of the first batch of 10" so I can continue to use that one for now.

Ta, :)

As another update for my issues:

I managed to get everything flashed with burntool, I'm running the latest update and I have to say it's amazing. It really makes the tablet useable compared to the October version I was using.

The only issue I have left is the fact that the market doesnt show all apps, and ADW does seem to be installed...I cant change any ADW settings, nor can I find an ADW APK to download to put the settings tab back in...

Any thoughts?

    Howto Flash the device:

    Shutdown the Pad.
Then Press The Button on the Right site in front of the pad (there is only one?) and the Power Button at the Same Time.
Then the device will be flashable and the light will be blue i think.
Then you Put the USB-Cable in, install the driver which is also in the package.
    Now you can open burntool.

    Device10 should be green.
Now jo goto Settings, and set uboot, kernel,sys-dat, udat

    uboot: u-boot.img
    linux-kernel:zImage_cui
    linux-sys:system.img
    linux-udat:userdata.img

Press the FIRST button from the left site to confirm the settings

Now press Start and the device should be starting to flash....

However sometimes the board hangs after flashing and will not start directly dont worry. If everything doesnt help, do a reset.

So iam not responsible again, this was the way i used and it worked.
I thinks its impossible to brick the pad, because you can flash it every time again. (throu ENTER+Power button mode).

    **Nevermind*** had the wrong file.

I have a ZT180 I picked up from a local classifieds. As I couldnt remove all the personal crap from the previous owner, I decided to flash it with the instructions on the very first post in this forum.

Everything is working good with the exception that about the last 20 or 30 pixels all the way down the bottom are "stretched" out. its like it doesn't know what the true resolution of the screen is. Any help?

    Thanks

    David
You probably flashed the wrong zImage for your tablet, I always get cofused about which one I should tell people to use, I think you flashed a 600 when you should flash the 576 one (or it could be the other way around, LOL).....

    Hi omarahum

    One question:
I have 1204fw, i see your 2931 post.. i understeand with your mod you have improved the wifi?
How can i make this improve, can you explain what i must to do?
I cant find the ftdi zImage from 1126..
    Can you help me? Please..

Thanks and rellay sorry fom my bad english..
    Ok, thanks ..
I thought I had understood that with this mod wifi worked even better than it does now in 1204fw..
this because i dont feel really fast my browser..and i thinked if there was a solution to make it go better...
    Thanks
I have a Ruby 1.2 576 display ZT-180 Tablet, and the 1204 kernel was causing some strange behavior, like on a cold boot there would just be a blank black screen after the android graphic logo finished loading, and would always have to reboot, and the wifi always seemed to go to "sleep" a lot (while in the same location with excellent signal strength) even though I told it in advanced setting to never turn it off. My solution was going to go back to the 1126 beta, but I didn't feel like flashing everything and setting up the tablet again, so i only place the ftdi.rar zImage into /sdcard/zt-update and flashed on boot, hadn't had any problems since.......
My Zenithink Folder on MediaFire - http://www.mediafire.com/?19kzx4qyx5uqp
you should be able to find it in /zenithink/1126 Beta ROM RAR Files/ftdi.rar, but there are a lot of kernels, spls, and boots to choose from, but I only flashed the Image in the ftdi.rar file. Also for faster upload/download on the tablet you can try to edit the \system\etc\init.gprs-pppd file and change the 115200 to 921600, made my wifi seem faster........

What is getting rooted and is it the same on the zt-180+?
I found a thread how to but it seems very complicated, what happens if you do wrong?
I could not find Root explorer for free on android market, is there no similar for free?
Rooting is just a way to get access to the system files.....
Easiest way to root - http://www.ibeau.net/tech/easy-root-txpower-fix-on-zenithink-zt-180/ (don't know if it works in Froyo or your ZT-180+ though - but rootexplorer can be found here too)
another program is z4root - http://www.mediafire.com/file/awt5m8lutmeb23t/z4root_v1.3.0.apk (again, don't know about froyo or zt-180+)

Hello, this is my first post on this forum. I have had my ZT180 for about a month now, and have got used to using it. It currently has the android 2.1, and I am starting to feel like it is limited, and would like to upgrade (to run 2.2 apps, flash, etc.). I have been viewing all the info on this site, and have been become overwelmed with the amount of information, as well as the versions of os, and upgrading software. I have modded, and updated other devices in the past, so I am not a total newbie at this. I was just wondering if there is a step by step guide I could use to update my pad, as I do not want to have re-update after I possible upgrade to a substandard version of the os. I may be wrong, maybe Version 2.1 as perfectly adaquate, as I do not know any better at this point. Any help would be appreciated. thanks
What ROM are you using now?

    For original ZT-180 (256 MB/2 GB) (not the 512 MB/4 GB):

Personally, I think the most recent Eclair 0117 ROM is more stable and snappier than the Froyo 0120 ROM. Zenithink wasn't going to publish Froyo because of all the bugs they haven't fixed yet, but since people were asking for it they did.

You could probably check out the links in my signature, or just read through the SlateDroid 0120 Thread - http://209.250.2.82/index.php?topic=15250.0 (one of my posts in there that may help - http://209.250.2.82/index.php?topic=15250.msg135193#msg135193).
