Be aware that now BitCoin is the most difficult "digital currency" to mine. Some other currencies are born, here is a list: http://ispace.co.uk/index.php (and some others are missing)
You will need a "pool" to mine xCoin and this pool depend on which coin you choose to mine.
Example: you choose betacoin? then this: http://bet.ispace.co.uk/index.php is a good pool where you can join and start mining.
NOTICE: "mining" means that your computer need lot of power. really lot. People used to use CPU when BitCoin started, then people switched over GPU which are more powerful for this kind of calculations. Now people use "Miner". An example of miner is this: http://www.butterflylabs.com/
Personally i tried mining with my GTX660 and speed was 66Mhash/s which is ridiculous... And i don't have enough money to buy a miner.
I'm not really into this market 'cause i see lot of problems. In these last times hackers get interested in bitcoin and started hacking wallets. So.. i will be very sad if i mine 1 bitcoin (nearly 900$ some weeks ago) and one badass hacker steal it.
