I couldn'twait so I tried myself. My command prompt said flyer was already locked as well. But with the right ruu, I still made it through the update exe and got back to gingerbread. Yee hah! Now I'm off to revolutionary/io

Two dumb questions ...

1. Does this process void your warranty ?
2. Could you re-apply the official HC upgrade (OTA) at a later date as if the device was as original ?

never mind - it is done now.

All went OK. Thanks OP for your efforts in producing the guide.

for my UK 16GB Wifi (cid HTC__001) , I used :

RUU_Flyer_HTC_WWE_Wifi_1.36.1114.32_Radio_20.3501.30.089BU_3809.05.04.10_M_release_191235_signed.exe

There was a bit of usb unreliability in getting adb commands to execute... but all in all pretty straightforward.

The only difference that I had from your instructions was that the very last "fastboot oem lock" command came back and said already locked.

Weird but it works fine and has subsequently accepted an 40Mb ish OTA upgrade to 2.27.1114.31

And then a 4.5mb ish OTA security upgrade to 2.27.1114.32

Its offering me the Android 3.2 update now... but that way lies madness. It is nice to have the hardware buttons back and a full sized usable screen area.

Recovery install?

I see no installation of Recovery??? but in the 1st post

... "At this point your device will reboot to recovery"...

this means there is a "stock" recovery?

thanks

ok just to confirm....
i unlock my flyer (wifi) with htc dev...i couldn't downgrade using this method. After i relock my bootloader (instruction for unlocking and relocking is on htc dev)

Now with relocked bootloader after multiply times i get my flyer downgraded from official honeycomb to official gingerbread (be sure u use right RUU for ur flyer!!)

I make a lot of mistakes most of them small unnoticeable, so just read through instruction and keep trying and u will get it. (in fact it took me 3 and half hour:p)

IF U UNLOCKED WITH HTC DEV JUST RELOCK UR BOOTLOADER THIS METHOD WILL STILL WORK.

thank you "globatron" for this great solution u save my life. :p

This does work :)

Bought a Flyer with HC on.

I did not want to unlock bootloader htc method.

So I tried this and it worked. Thank You

A few notes

First I downloaded "CID getter" from the market.

CID_001 Wifi model.

So I looked for a WWE GB version and found this RUU_Flyer_HTC_WWE_Wifi_2.27.1114.31_.......................

Changed this line to " adb shell /data/local/misc_version -s 2.27.114.31 "

I skip this line " fastboot oem lock " , as you only need this if you have unlocked the bootloader

RUU installed first time, if you get a error, you have wrong RUU.

S-OFF and Recovery via Revolution

No rooting needed, as I went in recovery and install a GB custom rom already rooted :)

About 40 mins to do everything.

Hope this helps some one :)

Wrong downgrade thread. You will need to unlock your bootloader again then Fastboot flash recovery. Follow steps from downgrade from hc leaks thread.

HELP - flyer stuck on the White HTC screen

I followed this thread and downgraded to GB - working well - seems responded faster.

Then I updated with one OTA udate, worked out fine.

Updated second OTA update, now the FLYER stuck on the white HTC booting screen.

I can get into the fastboot screen: but tried bootloader and factory reset - but it will not do anything - but just staying on the white screen....

I do remember it says it is S-Off.

Any ideas what I should do at this point??? Thank you for your help!!

This procedure applies to both flyers and view

    Required downloads
    1. First download the Gingerbread RUU for your device from this thread.
    2. If you don't have adb and fastboot on your PC
      • Get fastboot and adb tool for windows here
      • Get Fastboot and adb for linux here
      • I don't have a simple bundde for Mac, would welcome a link if anyone has one.
    3. Download my universal misc_version and unzip to obtain the misc_version file.
    4. Download tacoroot
    5. Place both the misc_version and tacoroot.bin files in the same directory as adb

    Procedure
    1. Check the version number for your gingerbread RUU
In my example I am using this RUU: RUU_Flyer_HTC_WWE_2.00.405.3_R_Radio_20.3501.30.08 9BU_3809.05.04.10_M_release_194964_signed.exe
The version is the part highlighted in red.
    2. Boot your flyer up to android if it's not already on, with usb debugging enabled and connect it to the PC.
    3. Run the following adb commands
      Code:
      adb push tacoroot.bin /data/local/
      adb push misc_version /data/local/
      adb shell chmod 755 /data/local/tacoroot.bin
      adb shell chmod 755 /data/local/misc_version
      adb shell /data/local/tacoroot.bin --setup
At this point your device will reboot to recovery
    4. Simultaneously press Volume Up, Volume Down and Power
    5. Reboot your device
    6. Run the following command
      Code:
       adb shell /data/local/tacoroot.bin --root
Your device will reboot, do not worry if it does not boot fully, it doesn't matter for this procedure, and it is a side effect of this root exploit.
    7. Run the following command:
      Code:
       adb shell /data/local/misc_version -s [COLOR="Red"]2.00.405.3[/COLOR]
Note that the number in RED is the version number retrieved in step 1.
    8. Reboot to fastboot:
      Code:
      adb reboot bootloader
    9. Relock the bootloader:
      Code:
      fastboot oem lock
    10. Go back to fastboot mode ( lock causes the device to reboot )
    11. Run your RUU ( if on linux or mac, see other similar threads from me on how to RUU on those OSes )

    Special Thanks
    jcase for the tacoroot.

people who are having trouble getting root, please can you try this and see if it works.

I was having the same issue getting root for some odd reason. all I did was add a slash to the end of the file path's on step 3. here's my CLI dump:

    Code:

    FLASH YOUR RUU

    This worked fine for me.

*EDIT: globatron has already mentioned this, but just to confirm, it does not work if you have already unlocked your bootloader through htcdev.com. it does not work if you have obtained CWM recovery through htc unlock. it does not work if you have root through htc unlock. it will only work if you have unmodified stock HC. at least this was my experience.

I think there is a mistake, it should be:
    Code:
     adb shell /data/local/misc_version -s [COLOR="Red"]2.00.405.3[/COLOR]

But: it doesn't work. The device hangs in the boot process after flashing the RUU.

The typo correction is correct but that it doesn't work is not. I've done this multiple times with both my own and other peoples devices and it works just fine. Make sure you used a gingerbread RUU and the it flashed completely. AND that you not doing this on an S-OFF device.
