The android OS appears to be keeping the phone awake and this results in a huge battery discharge! My battery was dead after 5 hours of standby and when I looked in the battery Use, "Android OS" was 77% with the timer for "Keep Alive" at 12h 34m (it was on the charger overnight and marked itself as hitting 100% CPU around this time).

What version are you on? Im on 1.4 and it has great battery life. I am using stock kernel. Did you install any apps recently that could have caused this? What kernel are you on?

Still not working :( it gives me " an error occured. please try again " message. The Fields are not appearing.
Any other suggestions please? Should I have GOOGLE WALLET installed?

No, you do not need to have google wallet installed, i do not have it and i was able to buy a couple of apps today.

Try to install again gapps 4.0.4 (the ones in the ROM utility from 18-02-2012) and check...good luck.

Everything is 1.4 stock. I put it on charge and it jumped up to 65% after 5 minutes. I wonder if there is something wrong with the battery calculations for some reason.

Edit: Also, it takes about 5-10 mins to realise when it's charging/not charging

The same happens to me sometimes when I disconnect the power cord, android os goes to the roof around 80% in a few hours of standby, but if I reboot the phone prior to unplug it, it will be fine and battery will last long.

Is this kind of usage normal? Screen time is almost two hours and Android OS is keeping up with it.

I had a similar issue last week, once I restarted the phone, Android OS started behaving itself.

I don't know if this was mentioned before, but here's the thing, after installing 1.4.0 I noticed that the stock keyboard wouldn't give me word suggestions in portuguese as in the previous version, then I checked that gapps replace the keyboard in the rom with another version which is smaller in size, I've replaced back manually the keyboard app with the included in the rom, now it works just fine :p maybe this is important for some people which their language is not included in the dictionary pack.

Deleting the keyboard app within the gapps zip won't work, this will delete the keyboard app in the rom and then won't install nothing because it's not there.

It's boring if you use it longer than few seconds :p
Thank you

Amigo, I am being nice here, and with a friendly hand extended .... but before the entire swarm descends on you >>> do some serious reading on how to install these ROMs. With a few hundred thousand satisfied Codename Android users getting good outcomes, please reconsider your words and ... well the rest is up to you.
From a friend ....

Is this rom still developing, or has androiduser abandoned the project?

I would not deign to speak for AndroidUser00110001, but he did state in earlier posts that he is busy with Galaxy Nexus and Xoom developments but would not leave Nexus S users in the lurch as it is his favorite. He, GerManiac and brainmaster are still very active from my reading of the tealeaves ... sorry posts.

No, 50% its not normal.

Something is causing the drain but I think its not the rom because it never got that higher @ mine.

If you add all the percentages together you will notice that it all equals way more than 100 percent. When you do this INCLUDE the percent remaining. Subtract everything over 100 percent from the android os. That result will be what is actually used by android os.

General Questions, Reports and Answers to Codename Android (currently 1.6.0) for the Nexus S; UPDATED TIL POST #2346:

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: WIFI is not working, what can I do?

A: You can flash another kernel or wait for update 1.6.5, that fixes it. However, no need to wait just flash a kernel at your own discretion, then you will have WIFI.

Q: But I want WIFI for the initial setup, such as restore from google?

A: No problem. Just flash the ROM and do a first boot. Don't setup anything just wait a minute or two for the os to finish the first start.. Then turn off your device, boot into recovery. Wipe cache & dalvik. Flash another kernel. Boot and then setup as usual.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
General Questions, Reports and Answers to Codename Android for the Nexus S:

Q: When is the next update coming?

A: Don't bother the five star cooks. This is not fast food! It will be coming! The goal is a stable and well cooked ROM, not a fast deep-fried one!

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Where can I easily find the latest updates and mods?

A: Best way is to install Codename Android ROM Utility. With this app you always download the latest stuff!

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: After downloading stuff with the Codename Utility, how do I install it?

A: For now you have to boot into recovery and flash the zip-files. In the future automatic flashing will be added!
Please donate when using Codename Utility to keep the project alive. Donation link found on download page!

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Setup wizard does not ask for WIFI Settings sometimes? It sometimes does and sometimes doesn't...

A: It asks for WIFI Settings before you set your google account only if you don't have mobile data connected! So when you are at the welcome screen after first boot, you have to be quick and push next before the mobile data connects. Then you get the chance to turn on WIFI!

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

R: For all those using mods, patches, kernels and especially themes, make a backup in case you want to return to the original ROM. You need a BackUp.
My suggestion is to install the ROM, set up your account, install the apps you want, then make a back up in recovery, before flashing anything else. After that you can test patches, mods, themes or kernels. This way you can start over without having to set up everything again, if something goes wrong or is not to your liking.

However: When you install the Black Infinitum Theme, and you don't like how it looks like - then go to the CWM Recovery, install zip, choose from SD Card. Navigate to the folder: UniversalFlasher and flash the backup that was created from the Black Infinitum installation routine.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Do I need to flash both framework and extended apps to get the full experience? Or one or the other? And if all, can I flash them all at once?

A: For full experience you certainly need to flash all. And yes you can flash one after the other without a reboot.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

R: For all the people using the TWRP Recovery. There is known issue when using this TWRP Recovery and want to apply BM'S Themes or any other Patches. Use the CWM Recovery and you are on safe side.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: I am using TWRP, how can I switch to CWM Recovery?

A: Download here in forum the CWM Recovery Touch and flash it.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

R: New Feauture: Use flash like a torch by long pressing power button when screen is off.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Isn't there a zip to fully clean the ROM, to get a real clean install?

A: Yes, there is. :) For a really nice clean Install use ROM-Wiper.zip- thanks to brainmaster (Attn: This is only for the Nexus S!!!)

    1) flash ROM-Wiper.zip(Attn: This is only for the Nexus S!!!)
    2) flash latest cna ROM
    3) reboot phone (don’t flash another kernel before this first boot)

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Can I use Titanium Backup?

A: Sure, but only backup your own apps&data, which did not come with the ROM. And no system-settings!

    Q: Titanium says "no root"!

    A: System Setting>Apps>All
Choose SuperUser-thanks to ChainsDD>Clear Data (might have to do a Force stop)
    then
    choose Titanium Backup>Clear Data
start Titanium (keep in mind just to restore your own apps as described)

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: How to flash another Kernel? Some write clean nothing, others just dalvik and so on...!
Q: What happened to these instructions on how to flash another kernel?

A: Usually wiping dalvik is enough, for that you can use the dalvik-wiper in this post. And I know there have been discussions how to best install a kernel.
And best is to ask the Kernel Dev, what his suggestions are.

However if you encouter problems, you might do it the long way. It worked for me and don't start asking why and why must I do these extra steps. You must nothing! But it might solve your problem.

    1) wipe dalvik
    2) wipe cache
    4) flash Dalvik-Wiper-
    thanks to brainmaster
    5) reboot RECOVERY
    6) format cache
    8) flash kernel
    9) reboot
    10) check this great explanation for Kernel Tweaks (thanks to droidphile)

(I always do it this way. The extra steps don't bother me. Call me extra tidy!)

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

    Q: Are the gapps included?

A: Yes, except the ones you can get from the PlayStore(Market).......

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: How can I enable DeepIdle?

A: Use the patch provided by Brainmaster, download it using the Codename Utility App (see above). However, make sure its for the right version, usually the patch follows some short time after the new ROM is being released.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: How can I check if DeepIdle is working?

A: You can check it with NSTools from the Market.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

R: ROM appears to be laggy!

    A: Reflash ROM.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Is memory management supposed to be blank?

    A: It's a Kernel dependent options.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Is this ROM based on 4.04?

A: Not yet. Probably already in the next release after 1.6.0.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Where can i access the awesome tweaks/settings in this ROM like the 4 target unlock etc?

    A: System Settings>Interface

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

Q:The deskclock app does not start when my phone is plugged into the dock. How can I fix that?

    A: System Settings>Display>Screen Candy

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: What does OP stand for?

    A: Opening Post

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: What does FC stand for?

    A: Forced Close

    ------------------------------------------------------------------
    ------------------------------------------------------------------
