If it's not broke - don't fix. You can get in trouble formatting the wrong thing. Be especially careful if you do format any of your partitions.
I personally did aa CWM backup of my Nook in its original unregistered and stock state. Before I do a new ROM I always restore that, makes sure I am always dealing with a clean slate.
