A quick install guide
Because of the repeat questions, I wrote up a quick guide to do a
full wipe and clean install the rom. A full wipe must be done for
major updates (jb to kk). If I violate any terms / conditions, let me know and I'll delete this immediately. My intention here is only to help. I've also attached the guide to this post (.txt format) coz honestly, I don't know how to attach it to my signature.
How to clean-install SlimSaberKat 4.4.X:
MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR ROM NOW!!
Files you need (Save to phone's internal storage):
1. Kitkat compatible recovery here:
http://mirror21.downloadandroidrom.com/file/GalaxyS2/recovery/CWM-KitKatCompatible-i9100.zip (link taken from OP)
2. Latest SlimSaberKat from OP (first post by FJ). I will not post direct links to the rom or gapps because you need to go there yourself and READ everything written there
3. Latest Slim-minimal-gapps also from OP. This gapps is customized for slimroms. (The original gapps will cause problems)
STEP 1: Flash Kitkat compatible recovery
a. Boot your phone into recovery mode (Switch off phone. Then press Vol Up+Home+Power at the same time)
b. Flash CWM-KitkatCompaible-i9100 recovery (that you downloaded earlier)
c. Restart into recovery mode again (this time it will be Teamwin's touch recovery)
STEP 2 Full wiping your S2
a. In CWM recovery, scroll down to "mounts and storage"
b. Select "-mount /system" (once you do, it changes to "-unmount /system"). Similarly select "mount /data" and "mount /cache" as well.
c. On the same page, scroll down and select one by one: format /system, format cache, format data (you will see each of them automatically unmount once you've wiped them)
NOTE / CAUTION: If you want to format your internal / external storage for a 100% uncorrupted install, make sure you've removed all your backup (nand / titanium) and rom / minimal gapps files to another location (e.g. your pc). Move them back to phone internal storage (sdcard0) as soon as you're done.
d. Go back to main (first) CWM screen.
e. Scroll down to "Advanced" > "wipe dalvik cache". Your S2 is now completely wiped (a virgin).
f. Go back to main screen.
SHORTCUT: If these steps are too long for you, get Hawker's Rom Nuke Script from:
http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=2100558 (Save the file to your phone. Instead of mounting the system in step 2a above, just flash the ROM Nuke Script to your phone and go directly to Step 3 below!).
NOTE: I'm not sure if the Rom Nuke Script mounts the system before wiping. If that's the case, you might want to mount the system before using the script.
STEP 3: Flash SlimSaberKat
a. Scroll down to "install zip" > choose zip from /storage/sdcard0 > Select latest SlimSbaerKat rom" > Yes - Install... (wait for it to finish installing your rom and take you back to previous menu)
b. Choose sdcard0 again, and this time scroll down to Slim_minimal_gapps, and install...
c. Go back to the main screen, and choose "reboot system now". Your S2 will now be reborn with a new SlimSaber soul.
STEP 4: Enabling Superuser access
Once the phone boots and you've configured your privacy / account settings, go to:
a. Settings > Advanced options > Superuser
b. (Once in superuser) Press Menu button > Settings > Superuser Access > Apps and ADB
Optionally you could also:
1. Configure Playstore Settings: Disable automatic updates and auto-add widgets
2. Allow third party app installs (Settings > Security > Enable "Unknown sources"). I also disable "Verify
apps".
