Hi Guys this a universal method to root all the variants of moto g without messing up the recovery or using superboot. This works on any AOSP rom or Stock Firmwares.

Warning:Unlocking Voids your warranty. You should have an unlocked bootloader to proceed further

Steps

1) Go to fastboot (Vol down+Power)
2) Flash this recovery via fastboot
3) Now go to the recovery (press vol down and then select via vol up)
4) Touch reboot system. It will prompt that su permissions are missing. Tap yes install(xbin/su).
5) Now go to playstore and install supersu app.
6) Congratulations your phone should be successfully rooted

This should be more clear, for the new ones, it's confusing..the bootloader MUST be unlocked, which does not mean all models/variants..it works with (bootloader unlocked) devices ONLY..

The word "all" is misleading..

Will this method affect any OTA updates?

Any modification such as a recovery change, or a Root exploit ABSOLUTELY does effect an OTA..a boot loop can be expected..most OS modifications that are not compliant with the OTA will MOST likely create a boot loop..this is a well known fact..and the device will (most likely) be rendered useless as a cell phone..

All variants? then why isn't my XT1039 listed in the compatibility support of that recovery?

"xt1028, xt1031, xt1032, xt1033, xt1034"

Is yours one of the new 4G LTE variations? If so it's because this thread was originally created before that variant came out and it hasn't been tested with your XT1039.

Yes it is a 4g version but the thread is titled "All variants of the moto g" it should be changed because this is the general moto g section which applies to both the 4g and original models.

I apolize in advance if this question has already been covered but I have an unlocked verizion g will this work? Ive googled and all the root and recovery methods dont seem to apply.

If you have an unlocked XT1028, then Root is obtained thru a custom recovery, (example) TWRP or the other one..there is a specific TWRP version for the "falcon".. which the XT1028 is a "falcon" device..

You would no longer use the "stock" recovery..
