Go to http://androidsu.com/superuser/ and download the zip for gingerbread/ice/etc.

It comes with both superuser.apk and the updated su binary

a little question: where to extract fbmode.zip? simply extracted on desktop but when typing command it says "file not found no such file or directoy"

extraxt all needed files in the folder where your adb.exe and fastboot.exe resides

edit: I'm idiot, didn't do the cd to the platform-tools before it...

is your command prompt at the folder where the two .exe files are ?
ie; c:\kfu\tools

btw now got other issue: went well till the reboot after having done:
Your device will now boot into twrp recovery, and flash the firefirefire bootlaoder. When done it will prompt you to reboot. Upon reboot you will get stuck on the "yellow triangle" screen of firefire fire.

fastboot oem idme bootmode 5002: after that there's still the yellow triangle and on the prompt it shows "<waiting for the device> and nothing happens

edit again: didn't see the message on the bottom for the power button -.-'

because the program (adb.exe / fastboot.exe) will not be found (as the computer says) if it is not in your current directory or you have that directory in the "path" varable

Thank you, that's what I meant earlier...the apk needs to be put in the working folder as well. Just trying to help noobs...

wow all this seems really complicated. Is there any youtube video showing how to root kindle fire 6.3?
I lost root and I really need to get it back.

I knew the masses would fall victims of learning lol.

u need to know how to use adb and fastboot. without that knowledge you wont even understand the directions.

its really simple, and a lot of devices require adb and fastboot nowadays anyway. I highly suggest reading about both, or u will feel lost the whole way.

I'm working on a slightly different method, but it still requires adb and fastboot. but instead of pushing all the files, it hotboots cwm from fbmode and than u just flash a zip to install root/recovery/bootloader, or just root. the thing I like about hotbooting cwm is it properly sets reboot wrappers, so noone can get stuck after the twrp/fff install. that will always be an issue, as long as people continue to use that installer.

thanks for getting this up jcase, ill try to have my cwm method up this weekend.

Oops...so I bricked my KF. Somewhere after I did adb reboot my KF disconnected and I couldn't fastboot TWRP. Now I'm stuck at the kindle fire logo. Any suggestions on how to unbrick? Windows won't recognize it as a USB device now. Thanks all.

While I have another root exploit, Amazon neglected pokey's far more beautiful one this update, and we have no good reason to blow another root for this update, so isntead here is a guide using fbmode.

Full credits for this goes to pokey9000 (see http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1414832). This guide requires you to have adb and fastboot working FOR THE KINDLE FIRE, on whatever os you are on.

Required files:

su - http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8699733/kindlefire/su
fastboot + adb for your OS of choice.

unzip fbmode.zip

adb push fbmode /data/local/fbmode
adb shell chmod 755 /data/local/fbmode
adb shell /data/local/fbmode
adb reboot

Your kindle will "get stuck" on the kindle fire screen, but really it's just in fastboot mode.

fastboot -i 0x1949 boot twrp-blaze-2.0.0RC0.img

Your device will now boot into twrp recovery, and flash the firefirefire bootlaoder. When done it will prompt you to reboot. Upon reboot you will get stuck on the "yellow triangle" screen of firefire fire.

fastboot oem idme bootmode 5002
fastboot reboot

Once in recovery
adb shell mount system
adb push su /system/xbin/su
adb shell chown 0.0 /system/xbin/su
adb shell chmod 06755 /system/xbin/su

Lets disable the root check before rebooting

adb shell mv /system/bin/check_rooted /system/bin/check_rooted.bak

adb shell idme bootmode 4000
adb reboot

Once booted into Android, install superuser
adb install Superuser.apk

This is really cool but I'm waiting for someone to update "Kindle Fire Utility" to do this for us without all the questions.

Note to software folks: I'm a software folk, and when other software folk tell me "it's really quite simple" I have to resist the urge to punch them. It's not simple when you don't feel the need to read 363 posts in thirty threads when all it takes is one nice cookbook or, better, a Kindle Fire Utility package that does all the confusing bits for us.

The stuff you guys do is *awesome* but you cancel-out that *awesomeness* when you belittle people for not understanding 363 posts in thirty threads.

Incidentally, I'm happy enough with the Kindle Fire 6.3 update with "Allow Installation of Applications" turned on. The B&N Nook people turned that feature off and I'm glad that Amazon has left it on.
