I've had about 4 soft bricks on phones I've had. I've never been unable to recover from them. emmc_recover (which is what racunhunter uses) is awesome! you just have to figure out what drive your phone is on via brickdetect.sh or some other script.
Usb 3.0 had the blue on the inside right? I think my laptop has 2-3.0 & 1-2.0.

So since I'm on 3.16 and the offical 3.16 RUU hasn't be released I am supposed to run the 3.15 RUU instead? Then this new BabyRacun thingamajigger? Also why don't they go into greater detail as to what this Abuntu program is? I've never heard of it which makes me iffy!

BabyRacun is for those like you who took the ota to 3.16. Not exactly sure but I think it sets up your phone so that the 3.15 RUU will work.
Ubuntu as a live cd is an OS that you run from a burned disc. You burn it, stick it in your computer, have it boot from disc, and choose to try ubuntu. It will leave your windows installation alone so when you are done using it, you just take the disc out and go straight back to your normal OS.
http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktopThis thread tells you how to get the live CD from a Usb thumb drive http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=2142044 . I would rather use a burned disk as well what are the instructions to make a disk?

I actually made a write up on making the bootable usb, but later found out that method is not supported by Unlimited. Bootable CD is the way to go.

I am about to try to go s-off, installed ubuntu on an old 32bit netbook. I have hboot 2.09, baseband 1.12.11.119 and soft ver. 3.16.651.3 71ord. I got 3.16 from upgrading to MB 3.0 I believe. Didn't install the firmware separately myself or take ota. Was wondering if after getting s-off thru flashing the 3.15 ruu, is it best to flash my MB 2.9 backup since it was based on 3.15? Or , will none of my backups work, not sure if going s-off means those that were made while s-on will then be incompatible. And don't take my not having any posts make you think I am completely green, my last device(optimus s) was my introduction to android. Just wasn't supported here as much as it was in another forum. I am aware that HTC is definitely a diff beast altogether. But I'm trying!!

You say first try, so I'm guessing you s-off'd your replacement without issue? Probably using the correct usb port this time? Lol.
