KNOWN ISSUES:
  • When plugged into some chargers, touchscreen shows ghost touch info
  • Bluetooth tether (to say a phone for internet) doesn't seem to be working correctly
  • Accelerometer can stop working occasionally. Needs debugging. (this seems better lately)
  • Ambient light sensor needs to be re-coded as an IIO driver
  • Headphones / BT audio route testing (plugging / unplugging can cause stuck audio)
  • Fix USB OTG support in the kernel
  • Better HDMI support for more resolutions
  • No Amazon Prime Video support
  • No Dolby audio support
  • "Cast Screen" does not function correctly under Settings -> Display
  • [FIXED-2014-05-20] Audio HAL cleanup and use system/media audio-route sources
  • [FIXED-2014-05-20] More camera tweaks
  • [FIXED-2014-05-13] Hardware Decoder/Encoder support update to KK-based sources
  • [FIXED-2014-05-13] Camera could use a small update for better handling
  • [FIXED-2014-05-02] Audio low latency issues when cover is closed or 2 apps play audio at once (stuttering)
  • [FIXED-2014-04-18] VPN has issues, needs debugging
  • [FIXED-2014-04-15] Possible other game issues, but I need more examples of games that don't run

Unofficial CyanogenMod 11.0 for the Kindle Fire HD 7"

Likes:

- Really dig the new blue CM boot animation.
- Choice of launchers.
- ROM usage is way better. To have this tablet have almost 500mb available at times when running is really good.
- You Tube is snappy and sound is great.
- All the Amazon apps work: Amazon Android Market APK, Cloud Drive, Kindle app.
- Movies play great on Netflix, Crackle and Tube Mate as well as playing personal movies with the internal player.
- Downloading works fine.
- Browser is fast and without glitches.
- Some real classy wallpaper choices.

Concerns:

Could not use my VPN (Private Internet Access) I tried updating Binaries through Super User (just to see if it would work.) Same response as last time when no root access could be given. Not sure what the deal is with my VPN. No servers had any latency when I can normally see a percentage amount.

Screen flips in portrait mode (listed known issue.) Just in case folks want to give a full test run before that's patched, the rotating screen does not happen in portrait mode. Also just touching the apps to run them in landscape mode does not rotate the screen.

After tinkering with it for some time, launcher one lost the widget settings and keeps FC to the point it was no longer uasable. Launcher 3 did not have this problem.

It's a dang fine ROM for the first drop. I gave it the best test I could. Thank you for your continuing efforts for our tablets, Hashcode.

every time I try to install it it says failed

Are you using the newest TWRP? 2.6.3.1 here http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=2128848 Maybe try to download from the crackflasher mirror on Hashcodes OP in case goo is having issues. Did you inspect the zip to make sure it downloaded properly? Other than that, make sure to factory swipe when in TWRP first, flash your zip(s) and then wipe CACH/Dalvik (for good measure.) I had no issues at all with the install so thinking the download might have got corrupted.

I had just swapped to to new TWRP and hadn't rebooted and when I tried to do the install it had said fail. Hard reset and reboot into TWRP again. No issues with the install. Well....that was what I did yesterday morning...before I saw the 11.0......lol time to update again :p

There seems to be an issue for me with Javascript on the in-app browser. I tried signing into both Facebook and Twitter (via Plume) and both give me an error related to Javascript being disabled/not working. I double-checked the browser settings and Javascript is enabled.

This version seems to be missing the extra unlock ring options and quick launch shortcuts for the home button. Navigation bar and status bar aren't transparent in the lock screen as well. Other than everything is working fine and 4.4 definitely feels smoother. Good work on the port hashcode!

As always, Amazing job Hashcode

My thoughts on 4.4:

- The interface is a lot less customizable than 4.3, No idea why but since this is not a performance issue, I don't really care!
- Feels much snappier while opening apps and changing orientation.
- Noticeably faster than 4.3.
- Lets you set wallpapers however you want, in 4.3 this was a major pain in my ass.
- Not sure if this is a new feature, but in any full screen app swiping from top edge reveals system UI.
- OK GOOGLE!!

Only met 2 bugs so far and it seems that nexus 10 4.4 users too have the same bugs

1- FLAC audio files stutter a bit if the screen is on and stutters LIKE HELL when sleeping! The only workaround i've found so far is to use Poweramp player

2- Stock browser crashes if you open an incognito tab.

What happened to the Expanded Desktop feature?? I was used to not having the navigation bar at the bottom since I use Pie.

As you some of you may have noticed: I have a new job working with Linaro Mobile Group beginning 9/1/2014.

This is a HUGE change in my professional career, and I want to be 100% focused on my current duties.

This means, that I will be ending my support for the Kindle Fire devices as official CM maintainer.

Over the next few weeks, I'll be working with CM to get a replacement dev to step in and continue updates / tweaks to the device.

    For more information:
    https://plus.google.com/111109372727398356624/posts/AtoJ3xLj35b

Lastly, ending my support for the Kindles was a VERY difficult choice. My TODO list is long and extensive with plans for updates well into next year ... To not get around to really polishing many of these builds makes me a bit sad.

BUT, this is where YOU (the community) can step in and make a difference. Continue to push these devices onward. I wish you all well.

    Hi Guys,

I'm nearly finished debugging the KFire HD 7" CM12.0 build. It's pretty close.

For those that are interested (and daring), I've pushed all of my work up to the CyanogenMod trees and you can run test builds of your own. Use at your own risk currently.

    Happy Holidays

If you haven't seen the posting... the Kindle Fire HD's were accepted into CM's official repos and will begin receiving nightly updates once a repo name change happens. Probably another day or 2.

Also, the first CM nightly will contain a bugfix for the apps which crash due to large libraries in /mnt/asec.

Previously, users were reinstalling the app w/ TitaniumBackup to fix this issue.

This affected many many apps and was in general a real hassle.
