This is my first(and hopefully many to come) contribution to the community.
The reason I put this together is I have been seeing a lot of posts in Q&A about "How do I root my Evo 4G LTE?" I have also seen posts in "other threads" asking "How do I get recovery and root back after using the latest S-OFF exploit?"

This is an updated and slightly modified version of Zedomax's root method. This is not my work I just did the legwork updating it.

I updated the TWRP Recovery to the latest version 2.3.1.0 and updated the SuperSU.apk to a more up to date version. I also added the factory divers.

This will work on all ICS/JB builds. Software versions (1.13.651.1 - 1.22.651.3 - 2.13.651.1 - 3.15.651.16 - 3.16.651.3 - 3.17.651.4 -3.17.651.5 - 4.13.651.3)

<------If this helped you buy me a coffee :p

If you used the latest S-OFF exploit you can still use this as far as I remember your bootloader will already be unlocked so just flash the recovery and SuperSU.apk.

Using this method will NOT give you S-OFF it will help you unlock your bootloader(HTC-DEV) flash a custom recovery(TWRP) and install the Superuser app of your choice.

Great Post! Thanks for taking the time to put it together. :highfive:

One thing I've been seeing and noticing being asked is what software versions are rootable. There was a lot of confusion if the 2.13.xx (latest update) was rootable or what needed to be done for it to be rooted. If you could add a little excerpt (I see you put it in your 'thanks' section) stating what software versions this will work with so people don't get confused or just know that they can root.

Thanks. :good:

I just updated the files Zedomax used (TWRP to v2.3.1.0 and SuperSU to v0.97) so it should work on all versions. He put this together when the LTE first came out, it had software v1.13 and as stated in the OP it was comfirmed working on the latest software v2.13 :D And thanks for your kind words :D

There's a bit of a problem here... In your 'readme' file, you instruct the user to flash the recovery image, then fastboot erase cache. Those work fine. However, directly after that, the user is instructed to type 'adb reboot recovery'. This does NOT work since phone is in fastboot mode, adb doesn't 'see' the phone.

Note: using fastboot menu to reboot the device into Android, THEN giving adb reboot recovery command makes the phone boot loop 2x then it boots back into Android.

So, I'm stuck in the middle of God only knows what. So exciting >.<

Awesome BD :)
thanks again mate .
this is gonna be great for newbies like me.

BD !! how about adding a link list to the better ROMS out there for the newbies ,
like which will work with S-On and S-off once you have unlocked the bootloader and got root.
TBH i am using Mean Rom as you had advised , but wanna try something more raw :p with more mods and stuff now ;P

Most of the rom have kernel installers so they are S-ON friendly. I switch between MeanROM, Sinister, and JellyBomb Domination. Tranquility, Viper4G, and SuperLTE_Mayhem_d3rpLTE_Bareback MILESTONE 4.1 have a lot of tweaks and options. You could also try CM10,AOKP, or ASOP roms in Original Development.

wow thats absolute bombardment of the options ;P
how about narrowing it down to like 3 or four :p
fully functional , better free memory and 0 bloat

TBH i have been waiting to get JB update on evo coz i am sure JB will have better memory management .
I am sure you have tried the FK23 JB leak on the epic , one of the best JB variants i have come across and that too on stock ;P
expecting an even more awesome JB update for evo from HTC.
