Re: [HELP THREAD] Nexus 4. Ask any question.

So... I noticed that stock has some really awesome alarm/timer/so watch feature in the clock app. The odd thing is, using Google now, is I say "set timer for 10 minutes" it actually uses the alarm feature instead of the "timer" feature. Anyone know how typo use the timer app instead of an outright " alarm" with you voice?

Re: [HELP THREAD] Nexus 4. Ask any question.

Hello. Can someone tell me how to take better photos?? I mean the way to focus and other things like that. Thanks:)

Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app

You can tap on the screen where an object is to focus. Pinch to zoom in and out. Also, a quick edit of a photo after it's taken will make a difference. Play around with the settings a little.

Edit: Here is an example. Mind you I have NO eye for photography.

After:

That just took a second with the editor built into the gallery.

Really sorry to bother you with this stupid question, because I guess it's probably answered a billion times on forum, but I cannot find it among the vast database of knowledge here.

Anyway, is Android OS on Nexus 4 the same for the whole world? there are no different versions based on the handset, since it is the same way for all operators (unlike Gnex)?

Thank you in advance

Yeap, there is just one version of factory image available. There is no occam-xyz variant etc.

You can view them here

Re: [HELP THREAD] Nexus 4. Ask any question.

I got my N4 yesterday and went on through with root and flashing paranoid android. I was wondering what you guys use to change the CPU scale. I've tried kernel tuner and nofrills CPU. Kernel tuner wont allow me to even see the CPU scale at all and sometimes the governors are different. Like CPU 0&1 are on demand while 2&3 are interactive. So this is new to me i come from a dual core HTC MyTouch 4G slide. Nofrills will allow me to see the freq scaling but it wont allow a change in the clock speeds or i/o scheduler.

The other thing I'm curious about is these new devices and their Android development and Original android development. I'm confused as to which is better to visit.

Lastly I've been on xda for a couple years and have been on dang near legacy devices that got stuck on GB Sense 2.1 and Sense 3.0. So LG is a huge change. Thanks for the plethora of information provided but its a little over whelming to me coming from very low activity devices. Thanks in advanced guys

JOP12C to JOP40C

Hi Guys !
I got my nexus 4 yesterday, and i really love it. I noticed something: 2finger notification pull down to quick settings not working, and i cant find locksreen widgets and photosphere. After i googled for solution, i found something: I have to update my phone, but it can't find newer version (it has JOP12C), so i have to do it manually. I have downloaded 625f5f7c6524.signed-occam-JOP40D-from-JOP40C.625f5f7c.zip, tried to install it from recovery, but installation aborted at the verifying part. i did factory reset from settings, and from recovery too, but nothing happened. Is there any other way to install update? I thought with google's phone i won't have any problem with updating to the latest android version :)

You might try System Tuner for your CPU tuning needs.

The difference between the two forums has been explained in multiple locations, but basically if you created it, it goes in Original Development. If you just themed, tweaked or ported it, it goes in development.

Use efrant's "Return to stock" guide, stickied in general, to get the latest images and flash them through fastboot.

I cant find a proper answer across the internet for a beginner question:
Can i connect my phone from the 3.5mm to RCA as i did with my previously owned galaxy S1?

Re: [HELP THREAD] Nexus 4. Ask any question.

Thanks, i read that before, but i didn't want to unlock my bootloader. Or this is the only way, to get my n4 properly working? :(

It's the best way. You can copy the data from your SD card to your computer before unlocking your bootloader so the data isn't lost. The bootloader can always be relocked afterward.

Edit: Now that I think about it, your bootloader must be unlocked to flash anything but an OTA.

Are you talking about the headphone jack? If so, yes.

I didn't mean to be offensive. I was basically saying that if you want a better explanation than that one, it's out there. If that was enough, great. Welcome to the N4 boards.

I actually have a few questions!

I just unlocked my bootloader and installed CWM to gain root access. Now, the questions:

1) The complete root guide says:

" Now, navigate to "Recovery Mode" with the volume keys. Use power to select.
A screen with another Android will pop up. Press Volume Up and Power at the same time.
Select Factory Reset. This process may take a few minutes. Be patient and let it work.
Once finished, select "Reboot.""

Well...i did press volume up+power after going into recovery mode, but the phone just...turned on lol. However, all my apps etc were gone so i guess a reset was done anyway. Is there a problem? It works just fine, and the bootloader is unlocked (i just procedeed with installing CWM and rooting, it worked perfectly)

2) Can i tweak the colors of the screen (the main cause i decided to root) using Faux's Nexus 4 Advanced Gamma Control? Or do i need to buy the expensive full app? Also, can i use it if i'm running stock kernel?

3) are custom kernels slower than stock? That what i've read around here... Battery life is fine as it is btw...better then my Sensation!

4) will i still get OTA updates now? I presume CWM won't allow that...

There are a lot of people joining xda on daily basis, and there are a lot of repetitive questions being asked which fill up Development threads. Point them here. Feel free to ask or answer questions. Idea of this thread is to get users to help other users with their problems/questions. Please do not spoon feed, but rather point in the direction where that user can find an answer and educate himself

First thing first. I strongly advise you to read THIS thread before posting ANYTHING on XDA.

Then, have a quick look at the names of threads in post no2, you might find what you need right away.

For ROM issues please do mention in your post about:
    ROM name
    ROM version and base
    kernel version and its settings
any mods applied on top of it
flashing "style" aka dirty or clean
    something like this
...and be sure you have asked before on the ROM thread unless you have less than 10 posts on XDA

Third. Even if you do get your question answered, please, do come back and read threads in post no2 (coming later as soon as we start getting the guides) to educate yourself. You'll be surprised how much time and frustration it will save you in the future.

ASK ANY QUESTION HERE,adb, drivers, superCID etc...... You will either get an answer or will get pointed in the right direction.

No abuse towards noobs tolerated here! No question is stupid in this thread.

***I feel that a little OT is healthy to the success of this type of thread. The people here who help the most will develop a comradery therefore OT is allowed within reason. Common sense will be applied ;)***

Linaro is not only in the kernels, I believe it is a compiler and it's "hot" with new roms right now. There's a feature with Google Talk, if you use Talk as your voicemail, you're able to play the voicemail in the call log screen without going to Talk app. Linaro breaks it due to audio libs or something alike.

In all seriousness now, how do I install ios 6 on my nexus 4?
    /s

    1. Get iPhone 5
    2. Place N4 next to it
    3. Drop a brick on iPhone
    4. Watch it's soul leave the body and transfer to N4
    5. Success rate infinity/1

No no no, I'm not a grammar Nazi. I'm a grammar Commie!

Hello everyone, I'm pretty much new to XDA and modding in general. I own a Nexus 4 and I wanted to flash the Paranoid Android ROM.

    My two cents;

    1. Learn how to use adb and stay away from toolkits. They work brilliantly but opaquely and it's in your best interest to know what's happening with your phones firmware in detail.

    2. Don't do anything until you learn how to make, store and restore nandroid backups. The N4 is virtually unbrickable and PA is rock solid after the 4.3 merge.

I'm a novice as well but modding is fascinating to me. Since my only phone is also a business phone I usually wait till Friday to flash new software so I have time to restore in the event of problems. Hasn't happened yet. Have fun.
