How does one update firmware??

Okay, I'm a Noob.

I just downloaded the new GG software update, but in order to view full notifications, apparently, one is also supposed to update the firmware.

How the heck do I do that??

(thank you in advance if you can help)

How to manual update GEAR using Odin.
  • Press the GEAR power button until Rebooting wording appear.
  • Continue press until appear selection of Continue/Download/Recovery.
  • Select Download using power button.
  • Press the screen to go in Download mode.
  • Connect GEAR to PC Odin.
  • Select AP at PC Odin.
  • Attached the downloaded file from Sammobile, remember extract the download zip file. The end extension after extract is .tar.md5
  • Wait PC install the driver for GEAR.
  • Click Start at PC Odin for flashing the new firmware.

  • Support 3rd party apps Full Notification, readable at GEAR itself.

When I hold the power button down on my gear it just keeps rebooting it never showed recovery mode and what Odin version are you using b/c I don't see AP in Odin to select it.

When you see the word reboot on it you have to tap the button quickly like 5 or 6 times and that'll take you to the options select recovery by pressing the button again and hold for 3 seconds no more no less it can be tricky.

I see the firmware d/l in this thread and will do that later on today. So can we use this update on the USA GG or is it region specific? Also how do we update the GG Manager software on my GN3? I cannot find the stupid Samsung App store on my GN3. Thanks again.

Yes you can. I was on the same thing(got mine at best buy) and used the UK version which apply to all the US versions it does not matter if you get it from sprint or att it's the same. The update is a lot better.

Can someone who followed this method with links here elaborate on selecting AP in Odin? Will download and try this method on Wednesday.

I was thinking the same thing but just select the pda button and go from there that's what I did and it worked.
Where he says AP use PDA

this is instruction how is work for me...


Update GEAR using Odin.

Press the GEAR power button and hold it.
when "Rebooting wording appear" release and press 3 or 4 times the button
when the GG screen show the menu "Download/Recovery"
Select "Download" using power button.
when "Download" option is selected.
press the Power button"for 3 seconds.
if everything is right ,the GG show A android Icon.

Connect GG to computer.
Open Odin and wait a few munites to install the driver for GEAR.
Select AP at Odin.

when you clic AP,will open A windows to selecc the version to install "new version uk"
the last step...."star"Now you can see on the GG how the new version is under instalation...just wait...after reboot is done.
