I am S-Off coming from ROM 3.6.13. but now i'm at least trying to get back to it (flashing back to firmware 1.17 and restoring a NAND backup)

[Edit] You need to flash back the firmware 1.17 if you are not supercid'ed from 'User-Friendly Firmware 1.17/3.12/3.24 Unlocked(No need to SuperCID)'

Restoring the NAND Backup was a success

Glad it worked for you. I'll add 1.17 user friendly firmware link to the op

[Edit 2]: installing 4EXT RC3 from 3.6.13 was working and then i've been able to flash and boot 6.2.1 Revolution HD :)
Unfortunately it seems there is a bug to setup a pin to unlock the phone (which is requested by my Exchange company server) so i have to go back to 3.6.13 right now:mad:
One last question. I have a sensation, not a Sensation XE. Can i say yes to flash at 1.5GHz flashing the XE version of the 6.2.1 ROM ?

Anyway thanks for your Help

PS! may be you can specify that RC2 is not working.RC3 is mandatory

Yes you can flash the 1.5GHz kernel. It will be faster but may not be as stable.

Saying that, I flashed the 1.5 kernel and have had no problems.

I've been running @1.5GHz and my phone is rock solid. No problem whatsoever and the battery life is great. Around 17~20 hours with moderate-heavy use including push gmail, whatsapp, gaming, fb'ing, browsing and 2 hours screen on aprox.

Hi!

Great guide guys!

Just a curious question:

Coming from ARDH 4.1.x, I was able to flash ARHD 6.2.1 XE but my 4EXT touch was only RC2. And I noticed that I was not given a choice about Sony Bravia installation or 1.5 ghz Kernel, just indicated "canceling.."

Was it because of RC2, I cannot make a choice during installation?? Or there is number of seconds limit (I set aside the phone on the table while waiting).

Anyway, afterwards I manually flashed 1.5 ghz SebastianFM Kernel :) :D

Thanks for the feedback i'm glad it worked for you. I don't know if there is a time limit to make a choice while flashing the ROM but, you should upgrade your recovery to the latest RC3. There was a bug in RC2 and didn't last a day out when the RC3 update was available. SO, it's highly recommended you upgrade your recovery.

You can always reflash the same rom without superwiping and all your data will be saved and you will have the chance to choose the sony bravia engine and 1.5Ghz kernel.

Thanks for the guide, I just read it all through though and theres one bit i dont get...
You say to remove SD card after flashing the firmware, then boot into recovery, then put SD card back in so u can delete it - youd have to take the battery out to put the SD card back in, so surely the phone would turn off and i'd have to reboot back into the bootloader and the firmware would try and install again??

Thanks for helping :)

I dont have ane issues whatsoever with this ROM. I havent had any issues with wifi, is working perfect as on gingerbread.

Its a matter of taste. For me its totally worth flashing this rom its fast, stable, sense 3.6 + ics looks great, batt life has never been so wonderful among other things. Hundred times better than gingerbread.

There is a thread with fixes for ics that will help you sort things out if you have any issue. Dont forget that EVERY ICS SENSE ROM is based in leaked ruu and will always be room for improvement. So dont point on ARHD as the only one with issues.

All i can say is flash ARHD its worth it.

Not sure if anyone else has gone through this but for me to go back to gingerbread I flashed the PG58IMG in the OP as well as a GB radio and still it wouldn't boot

I had to flash the Firmware Bundle found on this page
http://www.virtuousrom.com/p/sensation.html

guess I needed it to change the partitions back to pre-ICS state.

I've tried that firmware personally (the one posted in OP) and its working fine. Plus, that's the one everyone else use to go back to gingerbread.

If you are not superCID'ed you need to flash the corresponding to your CID an MID following the link provided. Also, you need to superwipe before flashing back the gingerbread ROM.

I am super CID'd
The firmware you posted does work, it got me back to eng bootloader.
I flashed the newest radio under Gingerbread RUU's in the radio thread.
It wouldn't boot. Something must've been incompatible.
Whatever the case may be, just sharing in case someone finds themselves in the same boat later.

Thanks for the guide, made the process much less painful.

Ok i got you. You are trying to have the newest ICS radio working with gingerbread, arent you?. To do so, you must flash the 3.12 firmware which contains the newest radio but it does have LOCKED bootloader and you will have to flash the matching RIL.

3.12 firmware is compatible with gingerbread ROMs and you will have the radio you want

Howdy joaquinf,

I love the guide, but in following it I spent too much time on the 4EXT part. The Link you have in the line below never gives a good link to the recovery img or how to install it. If you added a direct download link and the adb command to push it, I think the guide would be perfect.

"Dowload and install the newest version of 4ext recovery TOUCH (v1.0.0.3 RC3). Go here. (thanks to madmaxx82)"

BTW, This is my first install of a custom ROM. It took me about 4 hours because I couldnt get the recovery part done.

Just my two cents. And thank you for writing the guide. It helped me and was awesome.

Hi, the links i've provided in the guide are from the corresponding threads, in this case the 4EXT recovery touch thread. I just tried it and it's working fine. When you are redirected to the thread you need to look for the download section there.

I'll add a link to the 4EXT website. That must be a lot easier for users to download the .apk.

Thanks for the feedback

How to flash the ICS 3.33 firmware

    Readme first
    1. There is no need to flash the radio. It is already included in the firmware package. (radio included: 11.76A.3504.00P_11.24A.3504.31_M)
    2. Check MD5 Checksum of every file before flashing it. MD5 Checker tool: Download the file, unzip it and follow the instructions
    3. CAUTION: This procedure can brick your phone. Please make sure you've read, understood everything and know how to do it before you continue.
    4. Please make sure your battery is fully charged before start flashing.
    5. As a precautionary measure, remove the sim card from the phone and keep it out during the whole process.

Step 1. Flashing 4EXT recovery touch

During the installation of ARHD ROM you will be asked if you want to add/flash certain features ( i.e: stock or custom kernel, TMOUS 4g support, sony bravia engine, among other things). To make those choices you need to flash 4ext recovery touch before the ROM, if you decide to flash the ROM with CMW recovery this options will not appear. 4ext recovery touch is included in ARHD by default, any other recovery will be overwriten after the installation.

If you've decided not to flash ARHD and/or the ROM you've chosen do not require you to have 4EXT recovery touch installed, you can skip this section.

To dowload and install the newest version of 4ext recovery TOUCH (v1.0.0.5 RC5). (thanks to madmaxx82) use one of the following methods provided:
    • First method: Your phone MUST be rooted in order to install the 4ext recovery touch. Follow the Installation guide (thanks to LarsChristian).
    • Second method: This method is only for windows users. Download the user-friendly 4EXT Recovery touch flashing tool. Check the MD5 of the zip, extract the downloaded file and read the guide inside.
Is highly recommended to install the 4EXT Recovery Updater or 4EXT Recovery Control to keep up with the latest updates and news. Go to 4EXT thread or www.4ext.net.
    • Third method: Download this file, check the MD5 of the zip and install it following the steps 4 and 5 from post#1 in this thread.

If you get the "CID error" you'll need to know what your CID is and manually add it to the android-info.txt file contained in the .zip, or you can do SuperCID following Step4 in this guide and repeat the process afterwards.
NOTE: File used in third method WILL NOT install the needed 3.33 firmware in any way, only contains the recovery.img to flash 4ext recovery touch.

Step 2. Backup your current ROM/Apps/Data
    1. Make a NANDROID backup of your current ROM.
      • Go to settings>power and untick fast boot
      • Power off phone
      • Hold volume-down + power button to boot into the bootloader
      • Select recovery
      • Wait for 4EXT recovery touch to boot
      • Go to: backup|restore>Backup>Yes
      • Wait until backup is finished
      • Reboot phone
    2. Make a backup of your apps (with titanium backup or you preferred app). This is optional
    3. Make a backup of your SMS, contacts and important data. After superwiping and flashing the ROM all of them will be gone. This is optional
You can use either the HTC sense buit-in backup option or one of this free apps:

Step 3. Downloading the firmware package

Download the latest 3.33 universal firmware package (PG58IMG.zip) from here.

    Step 4. Updating the firmware

This step is MANDATORY otherwise you ROM will not boot. Please take a look at the firmware thread so you can understand what you are about to do.
After updating the firmware you will have the 3.33 firmware with unlocked bootloader (revolutionary hboot 1.27). Which basically means that you can use advanced fastboot commands, such as: flash new radios and splashscreens
    1. Copy the PG58IMG.zip file you've downloaded to the root of the sdcard. Root of the sd card mean that you can't put the file inside any folder. Also, you can't rename the file. Please keep the PG58IMG otherwise the bootloader won't recognize it.
    2. Power off your phone or remove the batt and put it back again.
    3. Hold volume-down + power button to boot into the bootloader
    4. Wait for the firmware package to be found and confirm to update as prompted
    5. Once it completed successfully and prompted you to reboot, pull the battery out.

Step 5. Removing the PG58IMG.zip file from the sd card

Now that you have updated the firmware succesfully, it is necessary to delete the PG58IMG.zip file from the sd card to gain access to the bootloader without being asked if you want to update the firmware. To do so, we have two options:

Option#1. If you can have access to the sd card from a computer:
    1. Remove the sdcard from your phone, attach it to your computer and delete the PG58IMG.zip from the sdcard.
    2. Remove the sdcard from your computer and return it to your phone.
    3. Hold volume-down + power to boot into bootloader.
    4. Wait 10 seconds until the bootloader is fully loaded
    5. Now your bootloader screen should read:
      -Revolutionary-
      PYRAMID PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
      HBOOT-1.27.1100
      RADIO-11.24A.3504.31_M
    6. Navigate with the volume button and select recovery with the power button
    7. Wait for the recovery to boot
    8. You are good to go, now you can flash the ROM. Please follow post#2 in this thread.
Option#2. If you can't have access to the sd card from a computer:
    1. Remove the sd card from the phone
    2. Hold volume-down + power to boot into bootloader.
    3. Wait 10 seconds until the bootloader is fully loaded
    4. Now your bootloader screen should read:
      -Revolutionary-
      PYRAMID PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
      HBOOT-1.27.1100
      RADIO-11.24A.3504.31_M
    5. Insert the sd card now
    6. Navigate with the volume button and select recovery with the power button
    7. Wait for the recovery to boot
    8. You are good to go, now you can flash the ROM. Please follow post#2 in this thread.
    9. Delete the PM58IMG.zip file from your sd card using your preferred file manager as soon as your phone has booted succesfully. You won't be able to boot into recovery normally until you delete this file. As a workaround use this method to enter into recovery mode.

[APR.16.12] How to flash/update Android Revolution HD Ice Cream Sandwich ROM

The content in this guide will help you to flash/update the latest version of Android Revolution HD (ARHD) Ice Cream Sandwich ROM.
    • Android Revolution HD is a custom ROM based on latest official HTC 3.33.401.x update. It is mandatory to have (at least) the 3.32 firmware (3.33 recommended) flashed on your phone or else it will not boot.
    • Please check your current ROM base number under: Settings>About Phone>Software Information>More>Build Number. If the first digits of this number are 3.32 or 3.33 then you have the proper firmware flashed and you can continue following this guide. Otherwise you need to update the firmware first, to do so, please follow post#1 in this thread. This is a general guide and can be applied to flash any ICS 3.33-based rom afterwards.
    • Android Revolution HD can be flashed in HTC Sensation, HTC Sensation 4G & HTC Sensation XE
    • You can flash either non-xe (without beats audio) or xe (with beats audio) version. Yes, the only difference is beats audio.
    About S-ON / S-OFF and Hboot version
Please follow the instructions according to your Bootloader status (S-ON / S-OFF) and Hboot version

    How to flash/update Android Revolution HD v.6.7.x / 1.2.x
    Ice Cream Sandwich ROM

    Readme first
    1. You need the latest 3.33 firmware installed in your phone before flashing the ROM, please follow post#1 in this thread. This is a general guide and can be applied to flash any ICS 3.33-based rom afterwards.
    2. There is no need to flash the ARHD recommended radio. It is already included in the firmware package. (radio included: 11.76A.3504.00P_11.24A.3504.31_M)
    3. Check MD5 Checksum of every file before flashing it. MD5 Checker tool: Download the file, unzip it and follow the instructions

    6. As a precautionary measure, remove the sim card from the phone and keep it out during the whole process.

If you've followed the post#1 in this thread you already have 4EXT recovery touch installed and your data is backed up, please jump to the step3.

If you have a previous version of ARHD installed (>6.4.0) you don't need to flash again the 4EXT Recovery touch, make sure you have the latest 3.33 firmware then jump to the step2.

Step 3. Downloading the installation files
    1. Download the Sensation superwipe script (is the same for Sensation /XE/4G users) from the ARHD OP(Thanks to mike1986.). WARNING: Use only the superwipe script for the HTC Sensation. Using a different one can brick your phone.
    2. Download the ROM from the ARHD OP (Thanks to mike1986.). You can flash either non-xe (without beats audio) or xe (with beats audio) version. Yes, the only difference is beats audio.
      • 6.6.x XE = With beats audio
      • 6.6.x = Without beats audio
      • 1.2.x = Recommended for TMOUS users. Based on the latest official HTC 3.32.531.14 (U.S. T-Mobile) firmware. Without beats audio
    3. Copy the super wipe and ROM zip files to the sdcard

    Step 4. Flashing/updating the ROM
    Note to ARHD updaters!
    • If you are coming from ARHD 6.7.x version there is no need to superwipe. Flashing the ROM without superwipe will not modify or delete your data/settings/apps/desktop layout. However, the mods you've installed will be gone and you will need to flash them again. I'd recommend to check if the mods are available/compatible with the updated ROM you are flashing to avoid future issues.
    • If you are coming from a previous 3.32-based ARHD ROM (>6.4.0) superwipe is required highly recommended!. There have been some changes and updates in the ROM since then and the best advice is to do a clean install. Please consider a superwipe to avoid issues and get the better ARHD experience.
    • If you are moving from/to the XE ROM version, superwipe isn't required but recommended. If you decide not to superwipe and you are having issues or strange behaviour please consider a superwipe to avoid issues and get the better ARHD experience.
    1. Power off phone
    2. Hold volume-down + power button to boot into the bootloader
    3. Select recovery
    4. Wait for 4EXT recovery touch to boot
    5. Select install from sd card
    6. Install the superwipe script. This will wipe ALL your data and reboot the phone into recovery again when completed.
    7. Select install from sd card again
    8. This time flash the ROM and follow the on-screen instructions
    9. During the installation you will be asked the following questions:
      • Is your device HTC Sensation 4G?. This will add wifi calling option. ONLY FOR TMOUS USERS
      • Adding sony bravia engine support?. Check out this video. Most of users haven't noticed any difference with or without the bravia engine patch. So you make your choice.
      • Flashing boot.img.
Step 1: Select between stock kernel and custom kernel. If you have a Sensation XE and you install stock kernel your phone will run @1.5GHz because that's the stock cpu speed. If you don't have a Sensation XE your phone will run @1.2GHz.
Step 2: Select between SebastianFM kernel and faux123 kernel. If you want to have an idea of the difference between both go to this useful post. (Thanks to PaulGiz)
    10. When the ROM is fully flashed select back
    11. Select reboot from 4ext recovery
    12. Done, enjoy ICS :D, the first boot should take around 5-10 mins

    Step 5. After flashing
    1. Before restoring or installing any app go to settings>Security>Tick unknow sources. This will allow the installation of non-Market apps.
    2. If you are going to restore any of your apps make sure you don't restore system apps or data. Just restore user apps and their data. Please read this post for a short explanation of why you shouldn't backup/restore system data.
    3. Restore your SMS backup. You must've done a backup before flashing the ROM.
You can use either the HTC sense built-in tool or one of this free apps:
    4. There is no need to flash the recommended radio, remember? you already have it.
    5. If you want to change the radio please visit Sensation RIL and RADIO thread and follow the instructions. (Thanks to mf2112)
    6. TMOUS Users, there is something you can do to possibly improve your data speeds and connectivity. For further information please visit Sensation RIL and RADIO thread and follow the instructions. (Thanks to mf2112)
    7. Don't forget to visit Hawke84's thread ICS Problem Fixes / Mods. (Thanks to Hawke84)
    8. Please read and use the search button before posting, maybe that rare and unknown issue you are having it's already fixed or has been discussed already.
    9. If I've helped you with this guide don't forget to press the THANKS button and rate the thread :D 5 stars if possible. Thanks

Do you want to go back to Gingerbread?

If you want to flash a stock ROM and/or you are changing back to S-ON using a RUU and it comes up with an error please follow the second method posted here. You can also reboot your phone manually into bootloader and then run the RUU.
To change back to S-ON please follow the STEP 5 in this guide

If you want to flash a custom Gingerbread ROM please follow this steps:
    1. You need to flash the proper GB firmware with Hboot 1.17.
    2. Go HERE And download the 1.17 universal Firmware. This file is the original Revolutionary 1.17.1111 Firmware with a completed Gingerbread Firmware v 1.45 package (It does contain the Radio 10.14.9035.01_M). (Thanks to Kohr-Ah for the User-Friendly Firmware)
    3. Follow the same steps you've followed to upgrade the firmware, but this time with the Hboot 1.17 PG58IMG.zip file.
    4. Flash superwipe script for sensation
    5. Flash Gingerbread ROM
    6. Or you can just restore your Gingerbread NANDROID backup, if you have one, AFTER downgrading the firmware and flashing the radio.
    7. Go to Radio/RIL thread and follow the instructions to check if you have the matching RIL (HTC-RIL 2.2.0169HMQ) for the 10.56.9035.00U_10.14.9035.01 radio contained in the 1.17 firmware package. (thanks to mf2112)

hey thanks for the fanstastic guide...i have a completely stock sensation 1.18,, runinng 2.3.4,, revolutionary fails to get root..after a few searches i noticed that i have to use the taco root method..so will i have to use taco roo???t or am i doing some step in a wrong way..

    tacoroot is the solution
    and here is the guide
SOFF WITH TACOROOT FOR HBOOT 1.18

    EDIT: jaoquinf
why dont you add this guide to your OP..its 100% confirmed that for 1.18 HBOOT revolutionary is failing to get root (zerg root failed error)
so just add a clause saying "in case of HBOOT 1.18 and revolutionary failed while acquiring root ..use this guide .or something"

    just a suggestion though :D
    3
oh damn.. :( so i will have to download a non xe ROM right??? nd can i flash a sense 4 ROM using the same steps in ur guide???

use beats mudhi's mod..it will give you equalizer
just flash this mod via recovery...thats all

    BEATS MOD BY MUDHI

sorry joaquinf for invading your thread :D
