I just switched over from a Nexus 5 to the Moto X. For starters I must say the I found he Nexus 5 extremely suitable to my needs (I've used pretty much every single flagship device out there).

I personally think Google has done a phenomenal job with KitKat.

Once I received my Moto X and turned it on, I was greeted with what seemed to be the Jelly Bean launcher but when I checked the firmware version it was indeed 4.4.2.

I used it a few days but found my self missing the feel of KK launcher on my N5.

I then side-loaded the official N5 launcher on to my MX and must say.. To me now this is by far the best phone I've ever owned.

Great Moto X functionality with the minimalist look and feel of the N5. Win.

Give it a try.. I think you might just like what you get.

Which launcher is that? GEL? And where did you install it from?
What does it offer you extra?

Yes it is the GEL launcher. What I did was disable the 'hot word detection' on Google now. Instead, I use the built in voice recognition of Moto X " OK. Google Now". It works better for me that way.

It lacks certain substances to be a true Nexus. Nexus phones are much easier to unlock bootloader, flashing without risking bricking, and much more rom developers.

Currently I'm using my Moto X without root, but I am looking forward to a Nexus phone that have touchless control.

OK, I've installed it, but I feel like I'm missing something. I can't find any settings to this launcher, can't add more homescreens, can't change app drawer orientation. What can this do what e.g. Nova can't? I don't see it.

You have to hold the home screen to open up widgets and settings but there is also an xposed module for it that let's you customize it more. You have to drag an app to the next screen to make another home screen like an iPhone. It is googles launcher which is integrated with Google now. You can say OK Google on the homescreen and it interacts with Google now, but I mean our phones do that without even having to turn it on.

I have posted on the nexus 5 threads and have recommended a lot of people to get the moto x. The nexus 5 was a disappointment in my eyes and Motorola should have been the one to make the 5, not lame LG. I will not buy nexus of LG keeps making them.

BTW, I purchased the n5 on release date and returned it after 3 days because the battery was horrible.

Supposedly rumors is Motorola will make the new nexus 6 and it will come with the latest 4.5 or 5.0. But I mean there have been reports that the n5 has had so many bugs and Google is suppose to release another update. But its past all the incremental updates like Google usually releases. So it seems like the n5 was a bust a disappointment?

Nexus 5 had a bad camera. What's really funny is Google had a commercial where a couple run off to the woods in a moonlit night and take pictures in really dark light and the pictures turn out great. Anyone who has owned the N5 know that is not possible. The phone had or has a tagline of "capture moments in epic new ways" or something along those lines. Whatever man...

It's all about perspectives. The Nexus 5 to me was a bigger bang for your buck than any other phone out there. The camera by no means is absolutely crap nor is it the best one out there. What it is though is a good camera; specially when you consider the price tag. It also has many great things going for it like the form factor, the engine under the hood, the display...etc and not to mention the smoothest Android experience money can buy.

For me personally, it was one of my favourite devices matched only by the Butterfly S and now the Moto x.. again for me..

Yeah, I posted in our Theme and Apps section about this same topic:

I really enjoy the GEL launcher and the phone itself. The combo of the launcher and touchless makes it the best phone I have used to date as well.
