Help with i727R? Questions and etc

Hi,

I have a Rogers s2 LTE i727R, running on 2.3.5 kernel 2.6.35.11 (stock)

Long story short, my last phone was the Nexus and it was pretty much an amazing phone; I had no need to root it. It was also my first Android but sadly, I had to change it for the s2. I cannot stand the irremovable Rogers Live and Rogers urMusic etc. in my Market waiting for updates (even though uninstalled) so here I am, being OCD and desperate for a root.

But unfortunately, I am an inexperienced noob and I need some direction from the people of this forum.

I have looked into rooting my device but can't really find a confirmed root or successful guide in rooting this particular device.

My question is are the i727 and i727R's interchangeable? Assuming that the R stands for "Raped with Rogers' bloatware", I would imagine it would not matter.. right?

My second question is which rootkits should I use? There are so many to choose from it's overwhelming.

I suggest you use the superoneclick to root

also in the root part which icenight89 mentioned.

Then just install Titanium backup to remove any system bloatware you dont like. But be careful do not go too far. After you feel comfortable you may try flash other great ROMs here.

I followed the instructions on http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1340526
and it worked out nicely.


then followed the video on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4xGTSrFl1o&feature=player_embedded#!
and now it is stuck on the rogers boot screen.

when I boot Superuser
mounting system etc etc
..setting system:bin/su permissions to 06755
creating system:xbin/su symbilic link
ELerror in /sdcard/superuser.xip
(status 0)
installation aborted



it worked the first time and booted normally, ( I did it a 2nd time because in the video it shows you should factory wipe and I did not do it first time) but now it does not work. any ideas? :(

Once you fire up Titanium Backup, you'll notice there is even more stuff you probably don't want - when I rooted my (originally..) stock 727R I did so just to remove the stupid rogers crap like you - and I found these lists handy.

A Bloatware list (mostly specific to stock roms)

This one is a pretty modest (and safe) list of things to freeze/delete.

Did you get it booting again? Sounds like the factory reset might have broken root?

I used Odin to flash cwm the first time and then install the su.zip. I've since had to return to stock. Is there any advantage to flashing cwm in Odin over just rooting with superoneclick and installing cwm through rom manager?

    Since you have cwm installed, and you factory reset already, and have no data, just flash a custom stock based rom, use superlite 3.1:
