Hi guys,

I just flashed K13E.

Now I'm a self-confessed noob, so I have no idea about tweaking and/or applying lagfixes. Would some kind soul give me instructions, or otherwise point me to where these are available?

Many thanks in advance!

PS. Oh, and thanks Hardcore! Keep up the good work! :)

anyone else tried using a samsung headset/headphones with a incoming call.. others on the thread for supercurios voodoo are also reporting issues with too low volume.. is this something you can tweak hardcore?

go into recovery mate, and you will see the tweaks and lagfix options there :)
use the recommended ones only (tweaks)
lag fix wise just enable it :)

Thanks totallydubbed! :)

Which tweaks are recommended? I don't really see any indication of recommended ones..

For lagfix I've changed the filesystem config to ext4. Is there anything else? (I read that changing SYSTEM/ is not recommended.)

It probably happens because calls are directed through the analog amp and those who use VoodooSound usually use the "forced" mode (set their digital media volume to the max and set the amplification to a lower value).

If that's the situation, it can't be tweaked in the kernel. If there is an activity in VoodooControl that can be called from Tasker and sets the amp to a given value, it might be manageable.

As I recall, it lists if a tweak is recommended, optional or not recommended by initial (r, o, or nr).

As for applying lagfix to the system, it is a matter of personal taste. It may be a little less "safe" but I prefer to put lagfix on the system as well.

Just update my GT-I9000 to latest update without removing the LagFix, went fine :)

Thanks a lot Hardcore, this keeping me in 2.2 until you officially support 2.3.3 :)

Hi, some constructive criticism from a noob... if you don't mind!

I don't like the 30% reduction in the lowest brightness level. Yes, I know that the highest brightness level remains unchanged, so I can simply increase my default brightness to match the level I used before I flashed the kernel.

BUT... when the battery level is <10%, the phone automatically reduces the brightness to its lowest level. I know that I can manually reset the brightness again by going to Settings > Display but this is extremely troublesome, and the phone automatically adjusts it back to lowest when the screen goes off.

Can I humbly suggest that this tweak become optional in the next version of the kernel? Many thanks! :)

IIRC it is optional through recovery menu. So you can turn this feature off...
I am now @JVB, so can't verify

thats not the case because i dont use the force analog volume keys mode.
and it didnt do this in ,9,1, voodoo and 13d version.. i have reverted back to that now.

Yes that's correct.
You can turn off speedmod min brightness setting in cwm. Hardcore addressed this at k13c if I remember correctly.

Sent from another GALAXY

Just to be sure, I'll reboot into recovery now and see if the option is available. In the CWM menu you say?

Edit:

I'm in recovery now, specifically in the SpeedMod ULK > Color & Brightness options.

There are four options here: Neutral, Cold and Warm Colors, and "Disable darkest auto-brightness level". I already selected the last one. At the bottom of my screen this is confirmed by the line "Selected options: AUTOBRIGHTNESS_NO_DARKEST".

I don't think that's what I'm talking about. As far as I can tell, that option only affects the auto-brightness setting, not the manual settings. Which means there is still a 30% reduction in the minimum brightness even if I select this.

Hardcore's kernel has always been one of my favorites. I hope he can work with the new unified github that supercurio and many other guys are participating in so that we can all benefit! I'm looking forward to a Hardcore Gingerbread kernel!

OK, then its description is little bit confusing.

Hi people. This kernel aims to be fast, compatible, stable, and have good battery life. It makes our Galaxy S run the way it should.

This kernel is for the International Galaxy S (I9000) and Bell Mobility Vibrant (I9000M)

The SpeedMod kernel for the AT&T Captivate is available here: http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=893880

Note: Only lagfixes using EXT4 are robust. Other lagfixes run the risk of data loss on freezing, hard-reboots, or sudden power loss.

WARNING: Before you try any lagfix, make sure that you have enough free space on your Internal SD. You should have at least more free space than data+dbdata+cache combined.

Latest K13E (12-Apr) - Voodoo Sound v7. Lowmemorykiller fixes. Improved display sharpness using AMOLED processing mode in MDNIE. Support for voice calls through headphones. Check here for more info and downloads.

    About USB Mounts:

    >>> Click here to download the USB mount fixes. Latest SpeedMod versions do not need this fix. The fix is for using K12E or older with 2.2 ROMs. It fixes the problem where Internal SD mounts as a read-only drive on the PC, or if the External SD does not get mounted.

On 12A, the battery seems better - but only marginally so - i still see Wifi using 35% on a mostly idle phone. If I remember right, the previous usage used to be around 5% - definitely single digit. Something is still wrong with wifi with JPY ROM/Modem....
Its not the ROM or modem. I think its the new Wifi firmware. I've started a thread to collect Wifi firmware versions.

    http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=885903

In the meantime, if you want u can experiment. I've created update.zip packages to update/overwrite the wifi firmware (it's in /system/etc/wifi).

You can try to use the older (DXJPA) wifi firmware and see how that does in terms of power.
If you don't like it, you can put back the XXJPY wifi firmware with the other package.

Let me know your findings, if u try it out.

DXJPA wifi firmware is working fine with my XXJPY rom. Gonna check out the battery usage.

    FYI:
    DXJPA: Firmware version = wl0: Jun 4 2010 14:21:21 version 4.218.214.3
    XXJPY: Firmware version = wl0: Nov 16 2010 08:56:21 version 4.218.250.38

K12U was just out, but here is K13A-T1!

    Changes:
    - Single version for neutral/cold/warm color, selectable from Recovery
    - Option to disable darkest auto-brightness level, selectable from Recovery
    - Minor optimizations to brightness sensor driver

Otherwise it is the same as K12U.

SpeedMod + Voodoo Sound test version!

    K12L-T5:

    Changes from K12K:
    - Improvements to FM Radio sound: remove Dynamic Range Compression
    - Voodoo Sound v1: FM radio bass fix, controllable headphone output via app
    - rear speaker volume +1 for media
    - light sensor polling interval changed to 2s instead of 0.5s
(saves battery, more stable brightness levels)
    - light sensor sensitivity adjusted so that the screen doesn't turn bright so easily
(saves battery and reduces screen burn)
    - adjustments to IO Tweak (super smooth now!)
    - changed battery level polling interval to 60 seconds, from 5 seconds

Note that you need Supercurio's Voodoo app to adjust the headphone level. If u don't install it, the default level is the same level as K12K (+1 from Nexus S, or +3 from SGS).

PS. The FM radio sound is really awesome after those voice filters have been removed!
