Still have the double slash and RO file system. I downloaded the 64 bit version but code for Option 16 is the same between the two versions.
It's different for option 14, however. The left side of the 'opt14.jpg' is the 32 bit version; the right is 64.
Do I need to uninstall Android SDK to use this? It is not finding my device.
Prokennexusa,
Thanks for the quick reply
Turns out i had to grant permissions to backup.sh in SU, something i never noticed because i never tried unlocking the screen lock during the script execution.
as for the backup folder not appearing, all i had to do was to unplug the device and re-plug it, and it appeared in windows explorer.
Your work is excellent, so thank you, and keep it up!
one quick question though, whats with all those backup files i thought all i needed was the system.img what's the rest for?!
Back a page, Amigo - I used the latest KFFirstAide in both 32 and 64 bit Windows with updated Java.Slimepuppy,
When you have time, can you test the options again maybe running the batch file in a Windows XP Service Pack 2 compatibility mode. You must be out this afternoon. Let us know when you are back, we will be out ourselves from 4:30pm until about 8pm. So, if possible we can connect after 8pm PST GMT -8 or we can wait until tomorrow.
Thanks again!

Finally regarding the inability to find the Kindlefirebackup folder, please use Google Play Store download and install WiFi File Transfer, use a Browser to download the backup files. This is a Known bug in Windows.
lacoursiere18,
Brain, when you have time can you let me know what you did to your Kindle? This baby is so sick it can not be detected by Fastboot and we are using Linux, so everything is native to Linux unlike Windows where you have to add drivers.
We can boot the device into Fastboot but we can not see the device, we have tried every option, 4 different cables, still nothing. Looks like we are getting you a new one, we will trigger the new unit to ship today. You will receive a brand new Kindle from Amazon, we will take care of shipping back the old Kindle and finally, we will drop ship you a Factory USB Cable with a CD ROM which will have a set of clean images so if you ever have a problem in the future, no issues.
Please respond to our PM so we can trigger a new unit.
SkOrp/Chris I 2nd the call for bt gps on this little slab of frustration. I don't always have Mrs. Bela around to tell me where I am, and reliable gps would help me find my *** in such circumstances.

I'm not EVEN going into the lack of a compass on these things.
Makes me sad to.When I first got my Kindle, I tried installing several compass apps, none of which could agree on who was the least accurate. Finally, one particularly la-dee-dah app announced in a very judgmental font that my KFTT lacked a magnetic sensor. This made me sad.
I get the same thing on my Windows 8 machine but it works fine on xp and Windows 7.@prokennexus
I tried to run option 12 "backup the kindle to the sd card"
and i got the following output
We Are Now Starting The ADB Server
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *

But there is no backup on my kindle's sdcard
and when i try to run option 15 i get
the system cannot find the path specified
what am i missing?!
The reason I have the android sdk is because I use droid explorer. I can live without it though. Thanks for your assistance.

I'm not having any trouble finding the backup directory, Chris - thanks though!

edit...
Chris - I'm back on the 64 bit side of Windows 7. I tweaked the runme.bat to run in Windows XP SP2 mode and re-ran Option 18. Same results.

I get errors that the file exists in an otherwise empty directory, twice. I've attached screen shots. I've tried using both winrar and 7-zip and gotten the error both times.
