Great post!

I've tried SlimICS before I read this thread and all I have to say it's the first ICS rom I actually liked in terms of performance, smoothness and battery life.

What about making a battery life test for ICS roms?
I know it takes lot of time, but many users would appreciate it. :)

It would be useless... battery life heavily depends on user activity. You cannot compare roms seriously without testing them in the same exact environment, and it would be incredibly difficult to reproduce the same exact usage several times with different roms.

It wont be useless. You can use same procedure for every rom for example u can test it with video playback on youtube, how long it lasts on maximum brightness ect....the only problem is the time.

I predict useless differencess between roms (concerning battery usages when testing like mentioned above)

Only way to save battery of your smartphone is to use it like a dumphone

First I would like to thank RATBORG for this great work, time and patience !

Second if I may suggest you I would like to see how ICS333 by Team 3xtr3m3 stands in this test
I think that along with Slim they are leading the scene of custom ICS ROM's :)

Ratborg please make a new benchmark. I really wonder how it looks after 2 months now.

Somewhere deep
I did not abandon the project. I guess I made a mistake by thinking it would be a day or
2 work with all those new look-a-like ICS ROMs.

And besides, it's very difficult to check which ROMs work with Glitch, which ROMs have
mods/tweaks that might affect the benchmarking etc.

Busy with these now, but seriously it costs me ****load of time ;) ->

    What?

First of all I want to thanks Bedalus for helping me out with the proper calculation of all the written down values
I got from these benchmarks. Thanks a thousand time.

Well, I just saw a couple of days ago a proper kernel benchmark testing about what kernel on x ROM is working the
slightest, fastest and most stable. I knew there was no benchmark for ICS ROMs on the i9000 so I thought it would be
a nice thing to try, especially for myself, to get evidence that there is/was no need to swap ROMs. Although it’s a
    personal taste.

Please, if you want to troll me (or the document), go ahead, it just doesn’t bother me at all, I know
that benchmarking is very dependable on the things you could do in the whole process to benchmark.
I haven’t done a thing to influence this whole benchmark.

    Where?

    Testing Methodology?

All the ROMs, that have been benchmarked, have been flashed with Glitch on top. Glitch is for me personally
one of the best kernels, keeps being stable and has a great performance!!

So hereby my step- by step way on how to achieve this:

    • With every ROM I fully formatted: /boot /data /system /cache + FR
    • Flashed the ROM, after the kernel, GApps and wiped cache and fix permissions
    • Let the device boot once and ignored the whole ‘welcome wizard’
    • Enabled WiFi
    • Installed through the browser the OI Filemanager and NSTools
    • Installed through OI the following benchmarking-apps (saved .APK’s): Antutu, Linpack and Vellamo
    • Applied the governor, schedule and OC* in NSTools
    • Rebooted
    • Waited for about 100 seconds
    • Ran Antutu first, after that Linpack and Vellamo (3x times in a row)
    • Reported all my results in the sheet

For this benchmark I used my knowledge about my phone and the hardware it has got.

On every ROM test I applied the following things:

    • Governor -> SmartassV2 (just the best to get for my testing results)
    • Schedule -> deadline (I find this the most valueable for this benchmarking)
    • OC -> 1400 MHz (I might go any higher but it’s not FC’ing on this frequency)

Secondly I’ve got an extra i9000 here; I will use that phone next week too, to get an extra test for having this all
‘clean’. Will try to update the list soon, and add more ICS ROMs, but here’s a start! Last but not least; I will NEVER
say that x ROM is the best or worst, just check it yourself.

    Updates & plans

    • 19032012 - everything done - except MyICS (got me in a continue bootloop even without Glitch)
    • 01042012 - everything done - except Dark Knight (had problems on Glitch v6) and Elite (continue bootloop on Glitch / looking for a solution for this)
    • 00042012 - change the SD card read/write benchmarking - look for another kernel (maybe) and find a solution to auto sort values from high to low
    • 25042012 - everything done - except Elite and EXTRAordinary - looking forward to ICSSGS #5 and Glitch V7 - more ROMs to be added later to the list - fix negative %
    • 17072012 - everything done - except ICS333, Elite and EXTRAordinary - no luck on having a stable Glitch V7 so I kept benchmarking ALL THE ROMs on Glitch V6 - more ROMs to be added later to the list - as a little present I added CyanogenMod 10 in the sheet too benchmarked without any custom kernel, OC and schedule/governor

    Conclusion

Compared to the 3rd testing SlimICS is being the overall number one ROM, best performed.
Loads of new ICS ROMs did pop up and have been tested. The ROM I've expected most of
was surely a ROM that I would use for a long time (stable/fast) and you know it from the
previous testings and experiences; Team ICSSGS (Team Nyx called as well). No modded
ROMs have been used, with tweaks, except from the ICS F4k MOD ROM, that build has the
built-in Linaro code as from I understood, therefor it has far more better results in the sheet.
