I hate to be that guy...but I need some clarification on flashing skinny4g...

Do I just flash it via CWM, or do I have to follow a completely different process?

I guess it's the bootstrap instructing that confuses me; is bootstrap something different from the CWM recovery?

I'll be in Chicago in a week and a half and would like to try out 4G...any help, greatly appreciated.

I've been flashing stuff for just over a year, so I'm not a complete idiot, just confused. LOL

Yes, bootstrap is different from cwm. If your rooted you can use rom manager to flash cwm, that's the easiest way to do it. But you need to be unlocked which can be done by connecting to adb the going into fastboot mode and typing "fastboot OEM unlock ********" the stars being your unique id

Will we ever see an update on this rom? I flash ICS and camera seems a bit borked for me... these here and CM7 are the only 100% functioning roms around... I already stated before that these roms had an issue when adding to the main screen a Motorola Contact Shortcut and other Moto widgets...

Think of bootstrap as a temporary partial cwm of which u can use to flash the real cwm. I would advise jokers recovery if you think you'll be trying out cm9 again. Using rom manager will not work for flashing cm9 build, its not 100% yet. U will get stuck at the moto logo. Jokers recovery from his site will work fine for anything u need to flash.

Thanks for that info about cm9. I was thinking about trying out cm9 but don't know how hard it would be to flash back to cm7 if I don't like it

No problem. Its Super easy. Just be careful when restoring system files via titanium. Try to only backup what u need and apps. When u bounce between cm9-7 make sure to format system & data & cache in recovery then reboot recovery then wipe all then install rom. It seems like a lot but its really not and once your in the swing of things it literally takes 5 minutes to switch back and forth. A nandroid backup is always recommended
(Edit) if your on cm7 just make a nandroid backup. If you don't like cm9 just restore your backup and your right where you started. I guarantee you will love cm9 though and you won't switch back :)

So to my understanding, flashing jokers latest collab of the ICS CM9 rom and then "locking" the phone to have 4G is not possible because of the requirement of Jokers CWM?

No. U will brick your phone but not because of cwm. The bootloader being locked will only work on stock blur roms. And certainly not aosp roms. Ull brick your phone regardless of your recovery if your not on stock or ( stockish that specifically don't require unlocked bootloaders.)

Ok thanks for that reply. So no 4G on ICS Jokers CM9?

I know he's put in a lot of work but .. I read and read I am still a little puzzled about if 4G has still happened with the rom.

They're close. To my understanding Motorola specifcly placed in code if you may that made it so if the bootloader is unlocked, it breaks 4g. The idea is to work around the code so it doesn't know its been unlocked.

Edit: because bootstrap is a "temporary" its the only recovery that works locked. Don't try locking without the stock recovery image. Ull result in a bootloop

Like a black box per-say and code I guess needs to be made to in a sense 'trick' the code from activating.

Hmm :/ have looked everywhere for an active Skinny4g link, anyone have one?

Clear is actually here now so jumped off jokersaxs ICS and went locked to try roaming on it, Sadly is two miles away from my house and it was late before my phone was straight to go see.

Torrent started to work, think it was my router setup (tho other torrents were going) good now, cant wait till it finishes.

    Update on skinny, so far ive managed to get skinny down to 136mb and im about to remove more. It will be a fully functional blur rom without the bloat or crap, it is based on the idea of a skinny prissy little woman that must be smooth and flashy. I havnt themed skinny yet but it does have some surprises. 1% battery doesnt work yet but ill fix it. Also i believe this is the smallest blur rom ever for our phone. I do plan on replacing most of the blur stuff but that will be another rom called blurbegone

    Should be pretty close, 1.3 will uv better on the high end, the voltage is the same. If you limit your Max clock and only oc when needed you can increase some more. Eventually when I get time I'm rebuilding my kernels with some of the battery code changes from my experimental kernels. I got a lot of nice fixes that extend battery life. Avp suspend, separate backlight from digitizer and suspend digitizer, lowered suspend voltage(yes uv'ers its separate), lowered RAM clock in suspend, lowered system clock in suspend, improved rcu, improved spinlocks, improved wakelocks, switch from performance to powersaver on screen off, etc...

    Soon ill make a battery life kernel set. Change the 2nd core policy, powersaver instead of performance, etc...

    I wish I had more time
