When I was on the chat with the rep, I was told to do a factory reset... So I Odined an I897 ROM and said it did the factory reset, turned off and now it won't come back on...lol

Thats awesome haha.

I kinda got flashing frenzy on my unbrickable sgs4g, and in the process of playing with nexus bootloaders I completely lost my efs folder. Even with my backup, my imei is lost. Since I don't have a tmobile account, I cant use insurance or warranty, so I now have in my hands a useless, unbrickable brick of a phone, ready for anything.

Good luck in the ICS porting project. This thread convinced me to have a little patience and wait for your guys progress. I was determined in selling the 4g, but now i reconsidered. My gf has an i9000 galaxy s, running ics 4.0.3 and it works flawless and very fluent in the gallery app, wich i use allot. Anyway, when an alpha version will be out, i will be happy to test it. I don't have programming skills, but i can test and submitt feedback.

For everyone that has PMed me to offe to help, I promised I would have some updated links this weekend, but with my inernet messing up, I have not been very successful. They finally come out and replaced a bad line in the gorund. I will be uploading some testers for you guys to play with. NONE of them are stable and only 1 is somewhat bootable. I will include some instructions on what needs to be done just to get them to be somewhat useful.
On a side note to everyone else, since my phone is on it's way to Sammy, I have been using my wife's old cappy (she got an LG Nitro HD...sweet phone) with Slim ICS. All I can say is, SUPER FREAKING SWEET. I think we can get this ROM kanged over with the help of brains CM7 build.

I got "ICS Mutt vTester" to work,
I installed gapps 4.0.3 after I installed it
but the phone seems empty and nothing works.
well when I say nothing I mean everything thats on it works but everything else including the setting menu well doesn't
a couple of things:
1) I always get an error when I try to install one of the ROMs a "can't find options.prop". thats in the installation menu.
2) its seems that both "ICS Mutt vTester" and ICS 2.1 after they boot and get to the "Setup wizard"(if you want to call it that) well aren't working
not the Push the android or change languages or Emergency Call
3)Slim mutt seems to give a permanent recovery window...

well thats all I hope we can find some kind of fix. I can't wait for ICS on SGS4G

@logan123

Did you manually push gapps 4.0.3 or download from the market?
Please give me more detail about the options.prop error. Like, what do you mean by instalation menu? Are you getting that error in the aroma installer menu?
Are both, Mutt tester and 2.1 not doing naything once you get to the "setup wizard"?
What do you mean by permanant recovery menu with Slim?
Can you give me logcats?

Thanks for the info bud. Much appreciated for your input. Like I said in the OP, I just threw Slim together. Since my phone is with Sammy (they got it today so it should only be another 4-8 days...lol), I can't flash it.

@thomas.raines

1) I mean gapps 4.0.3 from the Gummy post
2)The options.prop error is from the aroma installer menu it states
"script aborted: file_getprop: failed to stat "/tmp/aroma-data/options.prop": No such file or directory
file_getprop: failed to stat "/tmp/aroma-data/options.prop": No such file or directory"
3)When you boot the phone the first time, well if you don't install gapps a screen loads with two buttons and an Android picture. in the middle it state "Press the android to continue", well pressing the android does nothing I checked and it gives out an error "W/SetupWizard(): Ignoring touch event because phone interface was null" something like that.
The two buttons(Emergency Call and Change Language) aren't working either.
4)Well after you install slim, every time you boot if its a normal boot or you're trying to get to recovery, well you get to recovery.
its a blue(ish) kind of recovery and for some reason only after I used heimdall or Odin I got the device working again, re-installing a different kernel from CWM didn't work.

well here are some of the logs I kept.

ICS Mutt vTester Logcat
Aruma Installation log vTeset
Aruma Installation log v2.1
and some pics although there isn't really anything there...
hope this is what you needed!

The options.prop error may be from an older version of the Aroma Installer.

what about this:
" about to run program [/sbin/mount] with 2 args
mount: mounting /dev/block/stl9 on /system failed: Invalid argument
run_program: child exited with status 255
about to run program [/sbin/mount] with 2 args
mount: mounting /dev/block/stl10 on /data failed: Invalid argument
run_program: child exited with status 255
about to run program [/sbin/mount] with 2 args
mount: mounting /dev/block/stl11 on /cache failed: Invalid argument
run_program: child exited with status 255"
mounting errors in the v2.1 log

Ignore the get.prop (options.prop) error for now. It is installing and that is what the focus is. I will talk to FB about it though. As lumin said, it is probably because I am using an older version for now. However, did you do a normal or custom install?
As for reverting back from Slim ICS (as stated in the OP), you should look at brian's CM7 in the dev section. He lays out the install instructions quite well, and how to revert back.
I am uploading an update for vTester. It should fix the setup wizard and a couple other things. However, source forge is extra slow tonight...lol

Ok, here is what I got for you guys to help me out on.

These are kanged from Gummy ICS for the Nexus S 4G along with parts from VB and KJ6.

ICS Mutt vTESTER 3. Still needs some smali/baksmali and a look at a few of the .apks.
    ICS Mutt vTester 3

    Changelog:
Added old version of swype to fix keyboard issue (temp fix)
    Changed launcher
    Hopefully fixed phone.apk and contacts.apk
Report back with logcats, what you did, and what happened. Also provide me a list of apps that are available.
    erik and I did a lot...lol

Here is a link for the original bins, libs, and framework. This download is ONLY for those who are assisting. The zip contains a read me... read it:
    Org Files

All these are flash at your own risk. These are NOT FOR TESTING OR CHECKING OUT! They are for Devs ONLY wanting to assist with this project while I am without an SGS4G. Just to let everyone know, I got a bad update from windows on my computer and it screwed up my hard drive (thanks Bill!). These are versions that were still on my sdcard that I had to piece together from memory. Please run logcats (preferably verbose) and report them back to me so I can make my notes and document all changes for reference on future devleopment. Anyone willing to lend a hand during my phones abscence, it will be much appreciated.

Here are links to the original ROMs for reference:

I dont want any donations or asking for stuff like that, I was just surprised and feel bad for you guys since theres is no ics for this galaxy s device.. every phone has it, even the oldest androids. I have an unbrickable device, so I'll try to get some builds going..

I love it when all of the developers leave a phone, to leave a tinkerer standing in the middle of the crowd... to become a 'prominent' developer.

That's how I feel. So to call me a prominent developer makes me feel funny.

I think it's great that Thomas has gotten as far as he has by himself. I know that feeling. We have both dug the trove of google and spoke with other developers on IRC. Split hairs while reading logs and logcat output trying to correlate where in the code (if you have the source) a problem is happening so you can move on to the next problem.

I think there is a bigger picture here. RaverX3X is working on some open-source code to replace some of the proprietary binaries we use. Eventually, I will work those into the builds I make, as that code matures/stabilizes.

Everyone wants the latest and greatest OS, but the goal here is to just be able to build the OS from source. If we could do this on one version, it will help us to take the info we gained to port to newer versions.

If we work together to make CM7 work on our phone, it will make the attempt to go to AOSP/ICS easier (a lot easier then trying to go directly to AOSP/ICS... since our phone already runs GB).

If we get an Official ICS Kies OTA, Samsung has 60 (or was it 90) days to release the source. That would be great, but if we can focus on cm7... if we get that drop, it will make porting sooo much easier.

For everyone that produces deliverables (roms, mods, cwm hacks, themes, apps, etc...) for this phone, you rock!

just an update, i scrapped what i had and started from scratch. It's booting and i have a few things working. Changing toan ics launcher made a world if difference. after i get the systemui.apk working right i will post some screen shots and an alpha build...

    Sent from my BAMF SGH-T959V!
