Here's what I did to officially update my neo V to ICS through PC Companion (my third Android device, but my first ever official update, always did it manually on my previous two Samsung phones )
1. Locked bootloaders following the method → here.
2. Flashed the stock .62 FTF using Flashtool, download → here (thanks to original uploader for the link)
3. Unlocked bootloaders again in order to root.
3. Rooted it by using the CWM + Root kernel by bboof.
4. Went ahead and changed build.prop values as mentioned by Madfysh here (Remember, those three lines aren't next to each other, look for them in the build.prop file). Rebooted, and instantly got a new update notification on phone.
5. Locked bootloaders again, then flashed only the stock kernel from the .62 ftf to get back original kernel.
6. Connected to PC Companion, found the update, updated it. PC Companion doesn't check for root apparently, so that wasn't a problem.
Long procedure, I know, but I didn't wanna wait around to download the FTF, specially with the problems being reported And I think I'm finally getting the hang of all the fastboot and ftf stuff (which aren't there on Samsung)
