I replaced some of the system apps like phone, messaging, clock, with ICS themed system apps i think pulled from JW1. Now the "Android System" process seems to be using CPU more than before... any idea why?

More information would be helpful. Have you tried a reboot? Did you do a full wipe? Did you use titanium backup or another backup program to reinstall any system apps/data? Search xda for betterbatterystats app. It'll help you figure out what exactly is causing the battery drain.

No i replaced them by hand through root explorer. i did a reboot. the offending process is "android system". system tuner says the source is framework-res.apk., although i didnt change that file, only the individual apps.

Replacing system apps is not recommended because you are cross contaminating different versions of the framework. Some of those apps were probably compiled with an older version of framework and it's causing issues. Studa can weigh in on this when he gets time as he knows alot more than me.

Trust me ics is tempting but it isn't about being stuck in the past, it is about not wanting to mess with perfection. "If it isn't broke, flash to something that bootloops?"

Now pardon me. I need to get my horse and buggy warmed up. Don't want to crack her hoof by running her cold.

If no one liked anything new, shiny and buggy we'd still be dragging our stuff on an animal hide with one hand and holding a club in the other.

Personally for me Mosaic was/is a great rom but I just had to try ICS and having done that I can't believe how much smoother Fusion ICS 4.0.3 is, it's smoother than anything I've run on my Captivate in the last year and 9 months and I have flashed a lot of roms so I have a pretty good database to compare it with. But, I also like shiny things and hate dragging crap around on animal hides! ;)

Question: Can I remove the GPS on/off toggle from Notification area

My wife sometimes fat fingers the GPS button on accident, when in the Notifications pulldown. This in turn start chewing on her data plan.

I believe I recall at one point finding out -how- to configure what on/off toggles you display in the top area when the Notifcations pulldown is opened. Maybe not.

If there is no way to remove that GPS toggle, is there another clever (but not recoverable beyond ROM reinstall) way to prevent GPS from being turned on / enabled.

Thanks!

how exactly does having the gps on chew up her data?

but to answer your question... older version of mosaic had the option to modify the toggles, but it was causing stability issues. the latest version was focused on stability and performance so this option had to be removed.

If the GPS is searching for location through apps then it will use data. It had to request something from the network in that case.

Well, heres the deal. We are with ATT, and when looking at her data usage, she has transactions once in a whil that are 2mb, 5mb, 10mb, 32mb in size. On all three of our phones, I have seen this. They are all transactions "sent" from the phone (vs. receiving into the phone). She's not uploading pictures to Facebook, not streaming any radio (which I don't would be a "send" transaction), etc. Also, she does most interactions on her phone when she is connected to wireless.

I did however notice that her GPS was on. I don't see any apps running (or simply installed) that she would use that in turn would use GPS, or request her Location.

Both her phone and mine are on Mosaic, fwiw. Installed it 2 months ago or so.

Any ideas or pointers on unknown phone interacts, denoted as "send" operations (according to ATT logs), that sometimes consume 10-80mb in a single shot.

ATT did tell me the last time I talked to them about this that they do do some rollup posting of usage, so maybe these larges blasts of usage are those rollup postings, I am not sure.

Make sure use network location location is off and also turn off google location stuff. see if that helps. You could also add toggles for wifi, etc on a home screen do you don't use the pulldown.

Is there a list or webpage where I can find all the ROMs developed by the Collective/Team Phoenix? I'm just curious how many ROMs they've put out and what phones they have developed for. I believe the the Collective makes some of the best ROMs out there and I'd like to see what my options are when I upgrade my phone in the next couple month.

Ok Here is a fast and basic way to get to Mosaic 9 from 2.2.
Make sure you back up anything you want to keep. Pictures, Contacts, ect..[/SIZE]

At the bottom of the post you will find an attachment for an odin flashable Mosaic 9 .

Copy the file to your desktop and unzip it. Use any program you like. I used 7zip to zip it up. Free and handy. Inside you will find a folder, in that folder is 2 files. Odin and m9.tar.md5

    1. Remove sim card and Micro sd (if you have one and have backed up, if you have not backed up do that now then continue.) and put phone into download mode. There are tons of TUT on how to do that. If you are unsure how to put your phone in DL mode then maybe you should wait and read up some more first
    :D.

    2. Open odin and plug your phone into your pc. Odin will light up, letting you know it sees your phone.

    3.
Now click on PDA and select the M9.tar.md5 file. Ill give you a min to get ready. :D

    4. Ok Click start. Do not touch the phone or the connection till it is done.

    5. Now once thats done it'll boot into cwm recovery, from there wipe data/factory reset and then reboot. the bootanimation will play and then the screen will go black THIS IS NORMAL the phone is rebuilding the dalvik cache. just give it a minute and it will boot.

    6. Once booted...ENJOY MOSAIC :D
I have tried to write this as basic and simple as I can. I hope it helped some.

    FILES YOU NEED

    As for new stuff.
Download mode is no longer what it was, now it is hold volume down and power.
Recovery is now up and power

Thanks for the heads up dsmitty166
Some have had to use this to get into DL
vol down + soft home key + power
    (In that order)

    Post obliterated!!

...and yeah, it is a curse.

    Advice to users:
I would suggest, to any user of any rom, run the rom a while before slamming the developer with requests...especially after it is released. Give the developer some time to catch his/her breath. If there are issues that effect the usability of the rom, yes, do report so that it can be fixed as quickly as possible. But in the realm of aesthetics, sounds, or any other area that does not effect the usability of the rom...hold off. Give the dev, myself or any other, a week or so to rebuild steam, then bring up the small stuff. It's not that we don't wanna fix the small stuff, that is just as important. But believe it or not, releasing a rom is draining. And when we finally put up a piece of work that we are content with...getting nit picked, even when not intended as "picky", it can, and often does, comeoff as such.

Liken it to sex....when we finish, we don't wanna talk. We just wanna roll over and go to sleep. Yes, cuddling is fine...but cut the chit chat...I just wanna sleep :D
