This is a bounty for the Dev who unlocks the bootloader on the AT&T and VZW Moto X.

@kornklown69 requested a new thread as he has replaced his Moto X.
Allow this to be a continuation of said thread.

Let's keep discussion low and pledging high!

So far, the renowned @jcase has seemed to take up the task as he has unlocked bootloaders before.
Please report any further information to update the thread.

The bounty(s) shall be paid at the moment of arrival to the Dev responsible.

Here is the older out-dated thread.

Keeping this more up to date! We shall get root soon and nooooooooow we needs a bootloader unlock!!
Though I am sure that @jcase has this under control since he has unlocked bootloaders before.

In other news @Indirect is getting his hands on a moto x... He plans on poking the bootloader with a stick!

Sold my phone. Motorola is really irking me and I am finished supporting them so long as they insist on keeping their devices locked down tight... I am keeping my money in the pool though, and I'm upping it to $75.

Down with the man! Lol.

Is anyone even working on this? Jcase is off the case so who does that leave. Hash code seems like he's abandoned his work too. This is the only android phone I've owned where there wasn't a Million roms and kernels to choose from

I still don't understand specifically what is so different from motorola over other device makers. Especially since in the moto x case we have a dev edition of the phone that can be Unlocked, why can't that be used to create an exploit for locked devices? What does Motorola do that is so extremely effective at locking the device down while almost every other security method in existence in any sense (not just smartphones) has been hacked/cracked? Even the Verizon Samsung S3 which at first people said would be difficult to unlock one day out of the blue got a super easy unlock method. I ask this partly because it amazes me how so many security methods in our world seemingly get hacked with ease yet motorola has found some way to do it that has been so solid.

As Rebel908 said, the S3 being unlocked was an extremely lucky event. Someone leaked an unsecure bootloader that could be flashed to the device. If I recall correctly, up to that point everyone was banging their heads against the walls... people were debating the feasibility of using a distributed client to discover the key.

The dev edition won't help because you have to ask Motorola for your key to unlock the bootloader. There is not an unsecure bootloader.

I assume there is a possible key for every phone out there. It appears the unlock key is a 20 character alpha numeric string. If you were able to try a billion possible keys a second, you could exhaust that keyset in approximately 425 trillion years. There's a 50% chance you could hit that in only 212 trillion years, 25% chance you could hit it in 106 trillion years. Probably the most positive statistic is that if you started at the formation of the earth there is about a .001% chance that you would have found it by today. I'd play the lottery instead, statistically you'll win it several times before you find the key :)

I'm guessing the most feasible way to unlock the MotoX's bootloader is for someone to leak something which would allow this. Alternatively you could petition the carriers to allow unlocking of the bootloaders.

The good news is that the bootloader is actually rather easy to unlock by purchasing an unlockable MotoX. If you're worried about a subsidy, you can get a subsidized device, sell it, and buy an unlocked device.

Bootloaders across the board are getting harder to exploit. It is going to become more difficult to obtain root on devices. When people buy a locked device and expect someone to come up with an unlock for it, it's becoming increasingly unrealistic, especially when there are options to buy an unlocked version in the first place.

And when you buy an unlocked device, you're actually telling the manufacturers and carriers that there is a demand for this, without which, no one will be releasing unlockable devices in the future.

I believe this is the change since the OP was updated. Even if bootloader unlock is not likely, the thread might as well be kept accurate. It is, after all, the first result in a Google search of "Verizon Moto X bootloader unlock" (without quotes) and the fifth result without "Verizon", and the total sum from the thread title is prominently displayed on the results page.

I am contemplating trying the bootloader unlock from the Atrix HD on this phone.

Please report back and let us know how you unbricked it.

So I was at the strip club last night and thought to myself, " How about I not slide this $20 in that thong and slide it to the Dev that unlocks this bootloader...".
So ya, throw me down for $20.
