I purchased a LG Optimus L5 from Bell.

But the model number is LG-E617G

Is this model incompatible with E610 guides?

I really want to get my phone rooted.

no
your model is the same
just the difference is nfc
you can use the guides :)
can you provide reviews about this handset? how do you feel using it?

Sent from my Dell Venue using xda premium

So if I was to use the 610 kernel... would NFC functionality go away?

Review:

Absolutely love this handset.

Everything runs smooth. Great at multi-tasking. This is my first android phone. I bought it because of the $150 price tag.

It has all the bells and whittles you would expect in a more expensive phone.

Amazing performance for what some dub as a lower end phone.

Whats left? A root is needed so I can clean out some apps which are locked down.

Cyanogenmod would be nice too.

[RECOVERY] Hard Reset Process

When the phone is switched off, press and hold the Volume down key + Power key with your left hand.
When the LED on the bottom of the phone lights up, release Volume down key + Power keys and press and hold the Home key (for about 2 seconds) at the same time.
The phone will turn on and perform a factory reset immediately.
Do not operate your phone for at least a minute, while the hard reset is carried out.
You will then be able to switch your phone back on.

If you perform a hard reset, all user applications, user data and DRM licences will be deleted. Please
remember to back up any important data before performing a Hard Reset.

To reset your LG Optimus L5 hard reset phone to factory settings and erase all the data on your phone, touch Menu > Settings> Privacy > Factory data reset > Reset phone.

Resetting the phone does not erase any system software updates you have downloaded or any files on your microSD card, such as music or photos. If you reset the phone in this way, you are prompted to re-enter the same information that you did when you first started Android.

or

You can use LG Mobile Support tool to repair your LG cell phone, after download select menu Customer Support > Recovery Phone

Go to Support > Mobile Phone Support > Select the Model (LG-E617g). L5

Hi Guys,
Permission to join the LG E610 thread, just want to inform you that I also tried to root my new LG E610 L5 (my wife's actually coz I got rooted L7 v10c) but failed three times using the L7 root bat on L7 thread (BDGonline script)..I thought it should work coz it has also almost with the same specs, guess we should wait for a while to get the proper root method...Good to hear that this thread is developing..;)

    [GUIDE] Flash Stock Firmware

I am not sure if this has been posted before here.
But I am posting, do comment if you find it helpful.

Credit goes to the website: hackmyandroid.com

    Steps:

    1. Download LG Optimus l5 USB Driver for Windows | Mac.

    2. Download official LG Optimus l5 stock firmware from this page. The file would be a .kdz file. Download the appropriate firmware according to your network provider and country.

    3. Download KDZ updater and install it on your computer.

    4. The zip file has a Microsoft XML parser, make sure you run it as an administrator and restart your PC. This will solve the wparam 100 and lparam 6 issue mentioned in a comment below.

    5. The next step is to put your phone into emergency mode. To do this, remove the battery of your phone and re-insert it (don’t turn it on). Press and hold Volume Up button and Volume Down button. While you are pressing the two buttons, press the Power button. So now, you must be pressing all three buttons together.

    6. Your phone will boot into emergency mode and you should see a yellow screen with Emergency mode written on it.
Pick up the USB Cable and connect your phone to the computer via the USB Cable.

    7. Pick up the USB Cable and connect your phone to the computer via the USB Cable.

    8. Run KDZ updater as Administrator.

    9. Choose the following options in KDZ Updater: Type: 3GQCT Phone Mode: DIAG and KDZ file is the one you downloaded in step 3. See the image below,

    Root-LG-P350-LG-Update.png

    10. Re-check with the image above and ensure that you have the appropriate settings on the KDZ updater.

    11. click on “Launch Software Update” button.

    12. This process is usually long. It take quite a long time for the firmware to be flashed on your phone.

    13. If everything goes well, you will see “Finished” written in the log screen and your phone will change to switched off mode from Emergency mode.

    14. The next time you turn it on, your phone will take a lot of time to reboot. Stay Cool! its normal.
