Changed recovery and now TF700 won't stop rebooting (makes it all the way to Android)

Hey guys, I was gifted an Asus TF700, unlocked with TWRP and an unknown ROM.

I was looking to upgrade the ROM so I tried putting Philz Recovery on the tablet by flashing the .zip in TWRP. Then I flashed a new ROM in Philz and here's where the problems start.

The tablet will boot all the way into Android, and I can use the tablet for anywhere from 10-60 seconds before it reboots. If left alone it would stay in this boot loop until the battery would die.

Now I just want to start over. I can't boot into recovery as hard as I try. It just stays at the Asus screen or restarts.

Any ideas?

This sounds like you installed a ROM that requires a newer bootloader than the one you have installed, and you skipped the instructions of that ROM that said you have to install a compatible bootloader.

Other than that, your post is devoid of useful information. You flashed "a new ROM", and you "can't boot into recovery as hard as I try.". What did you flash, what did you try?

I flashed CMB 4.4.2 and I've tried every button combo I could (power + vol down, power + vol up, power for a really long time, both volume buttons for a really long time, power + both volume buttons for a really long time). Occasionally I'd make it to the screen with four options but I couldn't select anything with volume up.

I'm new to this stuff and I just kinda assumed I had the right boot loader. Oops.

Do I have any options?

When it reboots again, you should be able to go to the bootloader menu by holding down volume-down (left). Then enter your recovery and flash the correct bootloader.

Doesn't work. Tried both left/right volume buttons without holding the power button while it rebooted. Asus logo flashes once and then goes to the CMB ROMS screen.

Sorry I'm not exactly sure what the boot loader screen is. Could you elaborate?

I'll try fastboot tonight and report back but I'm afraid to try anything because the tablet really doesn't last long once it's in Android.

When you boot your tablet in the screen with the RCK where you enter recovery but you don't do anything once there that is your bootloader screen and it will say in the upper left hand corner you should see something about fastboot protocol and you bootloader version also... Let me know thx lj

What is your PC's OS??

Um. What? RCK? Sorry, I only see three different screen: Asus (says Device Unlocked or something in top left), big ugly CWM graphic, and then the Android lock screen (which I can unlock and use Android for ~30 seconds).

Running Windows 8.

If you see 4 icons then you are in an old outdated boot loader. Don't do a while what ever you do.

You'll need to flash the latest boot loader over fastboot.

Yeah I haven't been able to get back to that four icon screen. So where can I get the latest boot loader, and do I have to be booted into Android to flash it? How long does it take?

Trying to see if my device is recognized by fastboot now...

Alright, just got the minimal ADB/fastboot installed and when I type "adb devices" it returns my Asus's serial number. "fastboot devices" doesn't return anything.

Seriously, I only get around 20 seconds before this thing resets. Any ideas for what I can do next?

EDIT: I made it to the boot loader some how ??? Four icons, first of which is RCK. Only stays at this menu for 10 seconds, it doesn't seem like the volume rockers do anything.

Thanks for your help this far folks!

EDIT 2: Keep trying to get back to the boot loader screen. Sometimes it boots into safe mode...

EDIT 3: HOLY **** I GOT IT INTO RECOVERY WHAT DO I DO NOW (nothing comes up on adb devices/fastboot devices)

EDIT 4: Ok I've made it into recovery with the bootloader on a micro SD card (from this thread http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=2577165) and tried to install the zip.

It says: assert failed : write_raw_image("/data/media/blob", "staging")
E:Error in /storage/sdcard1/TF700_10.6.1.14.10_US_Boot_TWRP_2610_Signed.zip

Is this because I'm using Philz Recovery?

EDIT 5: Alright grabbed the right bootloader (from http://xdaforums.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=4006) and I'm getting the same exact error. (Status 7). Any ideas?

Ah, sorry, didn't see that. Message sent!

Managed to flash TWRP from fastboot and it seems like the tablet is running a lot longer after a factory reset. Still rebooting around 2 minutes in. Every time I try to flash an updated bootloader though it gives me an error (even when I uncheck MD5 sum check). I'm having trouble getting my tablet to show up under My Computer, and in TWRP it's not picking up my micro SD card....

Kernel version 3.1.10-cyanogenmod-g057aa0a / Android 4.4.2

You have a ubiquitous 4.1.1 boot loader. You need to be so careful here. Which version of tarp did you flash? There is no way to get kk 4.4.2 working on that boot loader.

The fix is to flash the latest stock Asus Rom from their site to get your boot loader correct. Or flash my boot loader + twrp package from cromix thread to at least get your boot loader correct. You still won't be able to flash kk 4.4.2 but it's a start.

It took me a little bit but I got him up and running!!!!!!!:D

    The Great Venture

He was able to get to boot into fastboot took a bit of doing for him....Once he was there I did not want to have to have him reboot into it again...

Than we verified that his PC did not have fastboot.exe or adb.exe than he could find....It may of also be a driver issue, as he is a windows user:(

So I shipped him here http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=2588979 Which got everything even the drivers for windows 8....

So than I shipped him to asus for the stock firmware... He got the blob and we did these steps

    Code:
    fastboot erase system
    fastboot erase recovery
    fastboot erase boot
    fastboot erase misc
    fastboot erase cache
fastboot -i 0x0B05 flash system blob
    fastboot -i 0x0B05 reboot

This will take 7 to 10 min to complete just hang tight
When the write starts on this you will see a blue bar on your tablet this is good

    Knowing that the command

    Code:
    fastboot -w

Is kind of important to this process when your as far down the rabbit hole as he was..

But it hangs on wiping cache, and I did not want him to have to reboot back into fastboot, until the new bootloader was installed so I skipped it....

So everything when ok till boot just stuck on startup screen...So than with a new bootloader and a stock recovery.. we did the sdcard downgrade...

    1. Download the latest version of Android for your tablet. Make sure you download the correct SKU version.
    A. To find the SKU, go into settings, About tablet, and look for your Build Number, There are two letters (such as US,WW, TW, etc.) that is your SKU. When downloading the zip from ASUS', you must download the correct SKU zip.
    2. Decompress downloaded .zip file (it will be another .zip)
    3. Rename it to:
    A. For the TF700 and TF300: EP201_768_SDUPDATE.zip
    B. For the TF101: E101_SDUPDATE.zip
    4. Make sure your MicroSD card is formatted Fat32. It must be Fat32 Format or it will not work.
    5. Copy the file to (the root directory of) your MicroSD
    6. Insert the MicroSD into the tablet
    7. Shutdown (power off) the tablet
    8. Power it on by pressing and holding VOLUME DOWN and POWER buttons simultaneously
    9. When you see white text in the top left corner of the screen, release the buttons ^^ and press VOLUME UP button (on RCK, this is your recovery which should already be selected) until you see Android logo and process bar
    10. Give the update process 5-10 minutes. It should not take longer than that. If it happens to run for more than 45 minutes to an hour, force shut down the tablet and see if it boots. If it does not, try rerunning steps 7-9.

Than it booted into stock rom but would not take the OTA... Knowing that CMB rom is ok with that bootloader.. We flashed recovery Installed
the rom and gapps and the rest is history....:silly:

For sure... I will post in just a little bit.....
